We've been waiting patiently for the rest of the W Magazine spread and interview since first seeing the controversial cover of Angelina Jolie and initial quotes last week. Now, the article is here and while only a taste of the 21 page photo spread is out, you can check out eight of the gorgeous photos here. Love how personal and intimate they seem — the whole family looks stunning. There is also the back story on how the shoot came to be with Brad as photographer, but here are more interview highlights:
- On Maddox's love of guns and knives: “My mom took me to buy my first daggers when I was 11 or 12,” she recalls. “And I’ve already bought Maddox some things. We take him to a special shop.” She emphasizes that the knife blades are dulled so they’re not dangerous, and that the purchases are accompanied by discussions about violence. But, she says, “we also talk about samurais and about the idea of defending someone as good. We talk about everything.”
- On traveling: “It’s part of how I want to raise them,” Jolie says, adding that they’ve shown no resistance to being uprooted. “If you tell them we’re getting on a plane tomorrow, they’re all excited to pack their bags, and if you say we’re not coming back for months, they won’t bat an eye,” she says. “I think they see the world as a home. I’ve seen Madd run through the markets of Addis Ababa [in Ethiopia] and not notice that it’s very poor, or that everyone is African or that he’s Asian. It wouldn’t matter to him.” If Jolie has a favorite possession, she says, it’s the overstuffed Tumi case that holds the family’s travel documents: Vietnamese, Namibian, Ethiopian, French and American passports, plus her own UN credentials.

- On Brad: “I love his photography,” she says. “Some people have a hobby, and they find the quickest way to it and are very pleased with the outcome right away. But he’s someone who will really study the camera—he’ll get the most complicated one and really understand the science behind it. And he’s very critical of his own work. I’ll see a photograph and think it’s amazing, but he’ll see all the different reasons why it can be better, and he’ll work very, very hard to improve it.”
- On the kids: As we wind up the interview, Jolie asks suddenly, “Want to walk around?” and adds, “You might run into a bunch of small people.” We head back to the garden, where a cluster of pétanque balls are scattered on the ground, and up to the empty pool. “I seem to have lost my children,” Jolie deadpans. She suspects they’re still where she left them, in her and Pitt’s bedroom. It’s become their favorite hangout lately. “Most nights, someone ends up in our bed,” Jolie says. “They’ve just taken over in there—especially right now, because we want them to feel that the babies aren’t special in the room. So our door is much more like a swinging door.” The Jolie-Pitt bedroom, of course, remains off-limits to journalists. And sometimes even to kids, Jolie declares. “The kids do knock before entering,” she says. “We’ve at least got that part down. Because Mommy and Daddy need some space.”
We can't wait to see the rest of the photos when the magazine hits newsstands October 21, but until then these photos and intimate quotes give us a great peek into the life of the Jolie-Pitts.

....same here....
1Such beautiful photos.
2They don't want them to think the babies are special! I'm scandalised, why don't they think their babies are special? They're terrible parents!
And so it begins...
3They photos are all gorgeous, I'm impressed. Good job Brad.
4Angelina is amazing and those photos are fabulous.
5love and admired this fmaily
6How is noone batting an eyelid at the knife comment??? Playing with knives is not cool and encouraging it in such young children is even worse!
7Man, I cant even imagine whats going to happen to these kids when they are older.
8beautiful photos, you can tell there is love behind the camera and in front of it.
9she'll be giving courses on injecting heroin in no time...Maddox & Zahara were the only kids she wanted...all the other's are just fillers
10I like Brad's photography.
11i like the pictures but i'm so over this couple.
12Kiki, I think by "we want them to feel that the babies aren’t special" she means that she does not want the children to feel the babies are loved any differently than the rest of them which is a sweet sentiment. Anyhow, the pictures are gorgeous. I had no idea that B. Pitt was a photgrapher!
13Those lips are scary...that's all I'm saying.
14aww that's sweet, I love her work
15These pics are beautiful:)
16Im afraid what will happen when this kids grow up...Its very scary
17Gorgeous pictures.
18can't wait to buy my copyyyyyyyyyyyyy
19I really like this interview
20These pictures are beautiful, good job Brad!
Wow, there are so many oddities in that interview I wouldnt even know where to begin commenting, so I think I'll just say that I love that pic of her in the sunglasses, she looks funny!
21God. Some of you such haters. kids are so curious. That she's showing him the good and the bad. And she amends it with her mom getting her her own. If they're fascinated they're going to be into it. Like a hobby. Might as well show them all there is about it so that they can understand it.
love them. Totally understood what they meant about the babies.
House must be chaos. I'd love it too.
22I believe Kiki was being sarcastic. There are certain key words set people off into "She hates a birth children!" and "She loves her kids differently!" hysterias
.
Along with the many other Brad and Angie related hysterias, of course...
23Beautiful photo's.. I remember when I walked into Mummy and Daddy's room without knocking..!
24Experts: Angelina Jolie Magazine Cover Will Inspire Moms to Breast-Feed
The new W magazine cover featuring Angelina Jolie breastfeeding one of her 3-month-old twins will inspire more mothers to breast-feed, experts say.
Shannon Fox, a psychotherapist with Momlogic.com, told Reuters, "If someone as popular, beautiful and together as Angelina is breast-feeding her children, it inspires other women to do so themselves."
The shot — one of several taken by Jolie's partner Brad Pitt — shows the actress, 33, smiling, while a tiny hand is visible at the bottom of the frame.

"Mothers of twins report it takes a lot of time, effort and physical energy to breast-feed. I think the picture is beautiful," La Leche League International spokeswoman Jane Krouse told Reuters.
Added Andi Silverman, author of Mama Knows Breast: "I think it is fabulous. Seeing a celebrity like Angelina Jolie breast-feed can be a role model to encourage women to make a choice that is wonderful for their baby."
25I don't see why people assume these children will grow up and be bad.
26Lovely photos.
27I too am amazed that everyone seems to be turning a blind eye to the fact that she's giving her kids REAL knives! I'm a proponent of guns, I believe ADULTS should own them. Knives are a different story. Had she said a toy knife or rubber knife, ok. But a real knife that has been "dulled down". COME ON, how can you even THINK that's a good idea!
28Well spotted Jessiebanana
29Beautiful. Thanks for the post, Molly.
30I think the photos are breathtaking and Brad did a great job.
31The only thing that gets to me is that Angelina or the people who write about seem to think she is doing something extraordinary or original that no one has thought of. People praise that she wants her children to be 'wordly' but because she is a white woman.
Many new American citizens (1st and 2nd generations and so on) of people who have emigrated here from another country are raising their kids biculturally or as travelers. But they don't uproot their kids constantly. I'm talking about immigrants from the continent of Africa, Asians, Hispanics (or those of Hispanic descent). And no one jumps for joy over them. I'm not saying that I would WANT that or that any of the posters here do that...
32i read somewhere that they are pitt-jolie not jolie-pitt, which didn't make sense since brad adopted madd, pax, and z, btw that picture of her wearing that huge hat and the baby is good work the rest meh
33The rest of the pictures make the cover seem a little better. I am amazed that she has managed to pass her fascination with knives down to her children and she thinks that it's normal. She remembers when her mother brought her to get her first dagger? ([Sigh] Don't we all remember that day from our own childhood fondly
) LOL BTW, she was 11 or 12 when she first got a knife. How old is Maddox?
34I'm keen to see the rest of the spread. I like her and their whole family, I don't understand why so many people hate them or pick apart their every move & everything they say in order to find some fault. Stop focusing so much on trying to dissect these people you don't even know, it's such a waste of time!
Regarding the knife thing, my mom also bought knives for my brothers on her travels - usually antique / ornate hunting or carving knives from different countries. They never ran around with them or did anything stupid that could result in an accident - that's what responsible parenting is all about. My brothers are in their thirties now and no one is a missing a limb.
35When my sister and I were younger, my father brought us up being interested in knives and guns, but we were also shown the good and bad points of them. My sister would collect a few knives here and there growing up, and even to this day is very interested in them, but in no means was she ever a bad kid. It all has to do in the way you raise them... you can't just give them a knife and expect them to know good from bad. I think she is doing an excellent job raising her kids.
36She needs some chapstick....bad.
37Those lips are ridiculous!
38Awww....these pics are beautiful. Although I never thought I'd see Angelina eating a hamburger.
39the whole brad/photography hobby thing reminds me of a quote stewie [family guy] said about ppl who take up photography as a hobby, i can't remember the actual phrase but it fits brad pitt and his "amazing" picture taking skills. i'll have to find it.
40I had knives at that age, and i have never stabbed anyone or anything other than my poor fingers once and awhile.
41And she even pointed out that the knife blades are DULLED.
42i bet if britney spears said the same thing about the knives people would be b*tching about it hardcore.
43aka Daria-that is true, but I am glad there is at least something left of the crazy Angelina who kissed her brother and wore a vial of her husband's blood around her neck.
44I can't wait to see more of the magazine! Beautiful photos. Is that an old picture of Shiloh in the baby carrier? I wouldn't think that the twins would be that big yet!
45i guess it's a nice thing that she's making sure to keep her kids involved in things, but i still think that there's something to be said about stability and trying to make things more normal for her kids. it's going to be interesting to see how they grow up - them and a lot of other celebuspawn.
46As a photographer, I appreciate Brad's photography style. A handful of those photos are fantastic. However, I'm disappointed at the resources wasted to get a hold of the film (read the back story).
47I love these photos and I love the two of them. They seem like fun, easy-going parents.
48AKA Daria, EXACTLY what I was thinking. It'd be World war III if Britney said that.
49Well Britney apparently has/had a mental illness so it would probably not be good if she gave her 2 and 3 year old kids knives.
Don't get me wrong, I don't understand giving knives to kids AT ANY age, but to each their own. I don't think Maddox is going to use knives the same way that Angelina used knives when she was younger.
