Maggie Gyllenhaal met up with Alfre Woodard and Rachael Leigh Cook on Long Island Wednesday night to watch the final presidential debate. Maggie kept her spirits high with other activist women despite the confirmation of some sad personal news. Jake and Maggie's parents officially filed for divorce after over 30 years of marriage. It's always sad to see families go through this, but both Maggie and Jake seem incredibly happy in their relationships if they need some support through this tough time.

Wow thats a bit of a shock i definately did not see that coming. That must be really weird now for maggie and jake
7Shame they seemed like a close family.
8oh well
9that's really sad, after 30 years - I agree, why bother? I wonder what the final straw was. not that it's any of my business. I just know I'd be completely devastated if my parents were to divorce now - they've been married for over 30 years.
10it's only in American that we pay more attention to celeb parents too - not just them and their kids. there's no reason that we would know about their parent's divorce - and to be honest, i'm not sure why they are talking about it. the kids are adults so it's not like they are going to be overly affected by this. oh well.
11Sad about the divorce. And I know this is awful but she is just not attractive.
12I don't know why old people get a divorce.. It's years for christ sake, work things out. i wish my parents would try to pull some crap like that after 25 years of marriage, GTFOH..
13Aww, that's horrible. She does look a bit sad.
14Whats the deal with the why bother? If they aren't happy together and the kids are clearly grown up and no longer dependent, why should they stay together? Cause they are old? No you GTFOH!
15If they aren't happy- I should add
16blew, dont like her, could care less
17Im sad when this happens to everyone. As for Maggie never liked her face;esp her work and persoanlity.
18As someone who went through their parents' divorce as an adult, I can tell you that it will affect them greatly. It could be even worse, since they may not feel that they have to shield their kids from any details since they're older...
19I agree that this is a sad event. But I do not understand why this is celeb news. This is something that should be private for Jake and Maggie to go through. This is not something that should be splashed on the pages for all to see.
20hey, the kids are definently grown enough to understand that life happens and people grow apart...I'd be willing to bet they mentally divorced years ago but their kids became famous so they wanted to hold out for their sake
21Maggie looks old....
22Another divorce! I'm really sad about this one!
23What is this divorce month? some British tabloids reported back Maggie and Peter might split too. Jake got the better genes than his sister and boy she ruined Batman for many.
McCain and Palin 2008. The press says Obama might suffer the Bradley effect.
24awww...Rachael Leigh Cook.
25I love her.
Poor Jake, it's got to be rough on him.
Maggie, well, she's such a b***h I can't feel sorry for her.
26Thats really sad, especially after 30 years of marriage. I wonder why you would grow apart after so much time together...but I guess this is better than divorcing when the kids were little. At least they will have many happy memories together.
Mykie - Why is Maggie such a b*tch? I don't care for her much either, I just want to know why you think that
27I'm sorry to hear Maggie and Jake's parents couldn't work things out. On the contrary, if Jake thinks that he and Reese will live happily ever after in the future, think again. I can assure you they will be the next ones divorced. I don't see this relationship lasting either.
28HOnestly California, I dont know. I swear, it's mostly because when I look at her I see a stuck up snob. And she reminds me of someone I know personally that IS a b**ch. LOL
But I can't get past it either, I just can't stand her. I don't like her acting much either to be honest, I've seen her 2 movies, Mona Lisa Smile and Batman, and didn't think much of her in EITHER role. Maybe if I saw her do something and liked her portrayal of it, my mind might change.
29I've seen her *in* 2 movies
30Maggie bothered me in TDK. She seemed miscast. I have never seen her in anything else though. Too bad about her parents.
31Mykie, I know how that is...when a celebrity reminds you of someone in real life that you don't like so it makes it REALLY hard for you to like the celeb. I don't think she's a b*tch, but I don't know...I'm indifferent to her.
32This was a really close family. It's got to hurt. And the parents have been Hollywood players long before their kids became famous. Maggie's mom wrote a fabulous screen play for a must-see movie called Running on Empty. That will tell you something about their family emotional closeness. Maggie's dad is very active in Hollywood as a director. I know he's done four of the NUMB3RS TV series.
I think they must have been growing apart but stayed together for the kids. As soon as Jake became close to Reese, they leased out their fabulous Hollywood Hills house (Jake's is was very close to theirs). I suspect Fiona wanted to be close to Maggie and her baby in New York.
That's my guess. I wish them all well.
