What a difference a year makes. Last year Matt Lauer was called glib by Tom Cruise and it made headlines everywhere. Now in reaction to the Paramount dumping Cruise news, Matt is actually defending Tom. He said,
“You know what, I have to say something. You talk about erratic behavior and things like that affecting the box-office and yes maybe he jumped on a couch, and I was in the middle of one of those episodes here on the Today show and maybe he speaks out about Scientology and some people don’t like that. But what about the stars who are in and out of rehab every week? Is that any worse? And yet you find movie companies still in business with them. So, this is all a strange world we live in.”
Good point Matt. On a side note, who knew Matty was so ripped?

3No, I don't agree with him. Unfortunately, rehab is just too common and I think people just assume it comes with the territory with people who have too much money, etc., but the crazy that Tom Cruise has is just TOO crazy for most people to handle.

It's not the same thing - drugs may be worse, but no one feels affected or insulted by someone in hollywood doing drugs. People get pissed when someone insults them because they take prescription drugs to cure depression...

24People with money think that other people want there advise. Most people will do what they are going to do anyways. I think that the Sci-Fi mentality is one of superiority. They are always trying to attain a higher IQ. It's mandated in their cult. But any smart already knows that IQ can be bought or acquired, it's inherent at birth.
25I don't agree with Mr. Lauer. Celebrities that go to rehab are not grandstanding (or couch jumping) on every possible media outlet(tv show/magazine/etc) and endangering countless lives by aggressively promoting their dangerous beliefs. Therein lies the difference between celebrities with substance abuse (or other) problems and the artist formerly known as Paramount Tom.

33I agree with what Lauer is saying but I don't blame the movie company for dropping Tom Cruise. Also I think that he is small minded and ignorant to think that antidepressents or medicines for ADD are bad for people.
34I hate to break it to you Matt Lauer. But being an actor on drugs is probably better than not being an actor on drugs and yet acting as if you are on drugs.
At least if you take drugs you have an excuse.
Tom on the other hand thinks he is a OT level 7 God. He behaves like a phony obnoxious boob. It's no wonder Paramount got tired of bending to his rediculous demands. Besides, people like me that pack the box office didn't go to Mission Impossible III because they can't enjoy the film. When we go to his movies welook at the screen and all we can think about is what a frickin nut the main actor is. It disctracts from just enjoying the film.
His wacko behavior and negative image has hurt their sales for sure. Heck, i'm the target demographic for Mission Impossible. I loved the first 2 and saw them on opening day. But Cruise just is a bit too out there for me. I still haven't seen MI3 becuase I seriously don't want to support such a screwed up wackjob of an actor.
So yes, if Tom was on drugs, we could sympathize and forgive, but he acts like an ass when he's sober so...yeah...it's worse.

As for celebrities going through rehab. You know you hit stardom when you have been through rehab once or twice- and not before. LOL !! I don't know too many celebrites who haven't battled a drug or alcohol problem. Hehehehehhehehe!
