I really don't think these two ever split up. They called off their engagement, but it doesn't mean that they don't still want to be together. I remember Salma being asked whether or not she was going to get married, and her answer was basically that she probably would... maybe, but that she was happy with her arrangement and the long-distance relationship, and that while it wasn't traditional, it worked for them.

I have a feeling the engagement was just them trying to fit into the standard, and when they realized that their relationship was never standard, they called it off. Everyone assumed that it meant that they broke up, but if I were them, I wouldn't have felt the need to confirm or deny an actual breakup anyway.

I don't think they ever planned to really marry or actually broke up. Culturally it sounds more acceptable to people to say she's engaged to the father of her baby rather, but that they broke up, rather than say she was having her lover's baby.

Perhaps it was to buffer the announcement for her relatives in Mexico and Lebanon.

I agree with spaghetina and ginger - I think they are still together, just not engaged. She seems like a really independent woman who is not looking to get married.

She is a very STRONG woman! He must be very sweet and quiet. Believe me all of the interviews i have seen with her, she comes across as someone who is very bossy! I bet you Edward Norton was so quiet. I heard he's very choosy about what film he does, he doesn't need the dollars. The boy was born rich and even went to Harvard!

i would LOVE it if these two would get back together. granted we don't know why they split - just speculation that living on different continents made things hard - but i really like the thought of these 2 together and they seem so well suited for each other. my fingers are going to remain crossed for this one!
