so she's addicted to breastfeeding? Ummm okay.... who does that? I thought it was painful... granted it's a good bonding experience for the mother and child but after a year or so it becomes creepy. I watched that tv special about the British mom who still breast fed her like 10 year old girls.... which is creepy.. and crosses the line to a weird and unhealthy dependence on one's child on intamacy....

My mother nursed my sisters (apparently I wasn't a good sport about it. Go figure) and she said it was one of the most beautiful ways to bond with your child.

Kudos to her for skipping that nasty formula. My dog wouldn't even drink that crap.

well i think that it's ok that she's still doing it - i don't think that a year is too old - but she should probably consider a new way of doing things regardless i love salma and i will always enjoy hearing what she has to say about things.

The longest I lasted was a couple months. Congratulations Salma. But aren't they supposed to be using a cup at 14 months. Pump it if you want, but she needs to be on the sippy not the nippy at this point.

I love Salma. I hope I'm still nursing my baby at 14 months plus.

You can use a cup and still nurse. They don't get all their sustenance from nursing at that age. They've usually cut back to two nursing session per day by then.

The World Health Organization recommends breastfeeding for at least the first two years of baby's life now.

Well congratulations. I just couldn't do it for longer than five months. For some lucky women, like Salma, it's a great and magical experience, for some women, like me it's a pure horror...

I think it's more that the quote sounds more like 'I'm addicted to a baby suckling my breasts' more so than 'I'm addicted to the health benefits for my baby.' Salma said it. And in that context it does sound pervy. Having breastfed 3 kids, I understand, but oif you don't have kids or didn't breastfed I imagine it sounds worst.

Good for her! I felt the same way about it. There is something addicting about it. I think for those that have an easy time of it, it's fantastic! I made it to 13 months with my daughter and then she self-weaned. But, I remember having those very same thoughts, "I'll go for 6 months and then see." "How about 9 months?" "A year it is!" You just get on a roll with it and it becomes second nature.

I've never breastfed before, but I don't find it gross at all . . . its better for the baby, its free and its a great time to bond with your child. Kudos to Salma for sticking with it!

I breast fed for 16 months, up until my daughter didn't want it anymore. I don't get all the people on here saying "isn't this isn't that too long"? I had all my doctors from OB to Peds telling me it was great and to continue as long as I could.

I guess many of you never have breast fed. It only hurts the first week or so until the engorgement is over. After that, it's as natural as answering the telephone. It is a very bonding experience and beautiful. I don't get the ones who say GROSS. Maybe they just don't have that built in motherly instinct. Think about what would happen if animals thought GROSS when nursing their young, there would be a lot of extinct animals.

Its totally natural to still be doing that. It gets unnatural if the kid comes in from playing and asks for it!

I nursed all 3 of my boys for about 20 months each. I loved every second of it. It was a big commitment but having kids is a big commitment. I was lucky that I never had one problem nursing, no pain, nothing but I did have pain when my milk dried up..that was bad. I do not recommend quitting nursing cold turkey, ouch. I also think it's a personal choice for women to nurse or not nurse . If you want to great, if not, then that is great too.

I don't think that's too long to breastfed, but I don't know if I could go that long. I'll probably breastfeed my children until they are six months old and then go from there. My aunt (who is not technically my blood relation - she's married to my dad's brother) is the odd one in our family for many reasons, but one of them is that she breastfed my 3 cousins until they were 5 years old! I think if they are old enough to ask for it, that's too old.

Good for her, but I don't know why she needed to share that with the rest of the world. lol

Good for you, Salma and your baby. My little one is about 6 1/2 months. I went back to work when she was three months and after a long and stressful day I look forward to seeing her little face while I breastfeed her.

Telane, most of the world was breastfed; I don't see anything wrong with talking about breastfeeding in a public forum; there is nothing else more natural

my son is 10 months and still breast feeding. i would love to do 2 years of breast feeding for him and any subsequent children, but honestly i want a few kids and am worried about how my boobs are going to look *ashamed* (& i would be too scared to do any plastic surgery on them)

but i will definitely try to finish his first year then switch to cows milk and avoid the nasty formula with its toxic cans and all. (no offense if you have use formula, but it would be great if there was a better alternative or if the companies cared enough about BABIES to not sell the formula in BPA lined cans)

i can see myself getting 'addicted' too, because once baby is weaned he can technically be cared for by anyone, and thats a big step in his independence! bittersweet, no?

Blag, I never said there was a thing wrong with breastfeeding. I just feel that it is a very intimate thing between a mother and her child and that I personally as a mother would not feel comfortable sharing something so intimate with a media outlet. Thanks for the scolding, anyway.

I breastfed my daughter for 10 1/2 months. I think I read somewhere that some endorphins or some sort of hormone are released in the process, so it makes the Mom feel good. I didn't want to stop but my daughter started biting and I just couldn't take it any more.
