Tom Cruise looks like his Color of Money character with his powerful stare on the cover of Details magazine. John Mayer, Robert Downey Jr., and Nick Jonas all made this year's "Power List" with Tom at No. 7 spot as Leading Man. Tom talks about controversial Valkyrie and what he has in common with his character. Here's more:

- On why he chose the film: "When you make people reconsider something that they're so certain of . . . I found it very compelling. It's the reason I'm doing it. When I was a kid, we'd play war, you know, and it was always 'Kill the Nazis.' I wanted to kill Hitler. [. . .] It's about doing the right thing, but also about finding out what the right thing is. You know what I mean? I do feel that this movie was the right thing to do . . . I love movies. Yeah, man, I love movies!"
- On people criticizing the movie: "There's always someone telling you not to make a movie. When I did Born on the Fourth of July, they said, 'This is going to ruin your career. What are you doing?' Suicide? I've committed it. There were people who didn't want me to make Top Gun."
- On whether he relates to his character: "Certain decisions at points in my life . . . I absolutely related. Stauffenberg went from saying, 'Someone should shoot that bastard' to realizing, I'm the only one who can do it. You can't really know until you're under that kind of pressure. I'm not saying this in some chest-pounding way, but I do feel I'd have that kind of courage."
Tom Cruise sounds passionate about his new movie, which opens up Dec. 26. It may not seem like cheery holiday fare, but it will be a typically action packed Tom Cruise film.

he still has it.
1That is by far the best picture I've seen of him in years!
2i love him as an actor !!
3I think he is so ridiculous
4Almost looks like Tom pre mental breakdown
5Looking good Tom. I've always liked him.
6He has always been, and will always remain one hellofa actor! I bought all three of his MI movies on disk, and i'm sure i'll be buying any others he puts out there. When it comes to action flicks, Tom beats em all hands down! And.....he's not too bad to look at either!!! HOT HOT HOT
7Tom is a great actor. I think his personal life, especially in the last few years, has overshadowed his undeniable talents as an actor.
8Hello, Risky Business? A Few Good Men, Magnolia and Rain Man are favorites of mine too. Up to a few years ago, he was the definition of a "SUPERSTAR". He screwed up his image, though.
I wonder why its '40 most influential men under 47' ... 47 seems like an arbitrary age.
9meh
10He can relate to the courage of an German resistance fighter in the midst of one of the most evil people the world has ever seen? I'm afraid this guy has some serious delusional thoughts...
11Somehow with his hands up he reminds me of Pete Burns from "You spin me round" video

12I am not a huge fan of Tom's, but I REALLY like Bryan Singer's movies. He seems to get the balance of action and character development just right.
13Ooooooooh. It's the "top gun" eyes. This is the look that I and every other girl I knew swooned over.
14I think he's so ridiculous too, Gwen G. It's also interesting that the list/article focuses on age. I think I'd find Tom Cruise a lot more palatable if he'd only act his once in a while. LOL.
Of course, I'm not so quick to forget or overlook all his public preaching--about how women should treat their PPD, etc. I think that was very dangerous and negligent, especially coming from a man with no sort of medical background whatsoever who was obviously so ignorant on the subject. He only jumped on the "apology tour" after he thought his career was being harmed, not because he thought his words did harm.
Plus, what happened to Katie Holmes and the complete transformation after she met Tom Cruise creeps me out to this day. *shudders*
I guess I'm drawn more to actors who can completely transform themselves in a role. Tom Cruise is/was always playing another version of "Tom Cruise" to me. For me, his bizarre public life completely overshadows any movie role he might choose.
15Tom is a great actor. Like I've said before - his personal life has cast a shadow over his talent (which is wrong). Hes a great actor and I actually want to see this film (I'll wait till itairs on HBO since movie tickets here in NYC are bananas!!!).
Oh hes looks HOTT in this photo.
16"Stauffenberg went from saying, 'Someone should shoot that bastard' to realizing, I'm the only one who can do it"
Sorry, I have to add this made me LOL, because it reminded of his much-parodied YouTube video...
17Ahh, this is the Tom Cruise I loved before he got all crazy.
18it's sad when your crazy antics overshadow a great career.
19the best picture in years because this sh*t is photoshopped. he hasnt been that thin in years
20he looks good here, photoshopped or not
21I'm enjoying the weird, rambling quality of his answers
22I hope he lands on his feet this time...
23(tapping on mic): "testing tesing, is it on....ahem, Tom - nobody gives a sh*t; Happy Thanksgiving"
24Can't stand Tom Cruise but I have to admit he looks really good for his age. Too bad he is freaking crazy!!!
25That's probably one of the most photoshopped covers of the year. He hasn't been that thin in years. They also fixed his crazy eyes and were smart enough not to show his maniacal laugh.
26I hope his movie is a huge flop. As a German citizen I'm insulted having this whack job play Stauffenberg. His "religion" is (rightly so might I add) considered a cult in Germany yet he plays someone who fought for freedom.
His behavior can be a bit strange at times, but he is generally a decent actor and that is a seriously good stare! Damn, it's like he's trying to read my thoughts!
27Hmmm, conspicuous lack of aging.
28Lol Shannolyn - that youtube scientology video sprung to mind too when I read that. The only one who can help out at an accident...the only one that can plot to assassinate Hitler...oh right, I see the resemblance there in the courage stakes....I'm afraid this guy is believing his own PR and hype.
29Ok people, get over the PPD thing. He apologized to Brooke Shield, let's turn the page and move on
30wow he looks pretty young here!
31He looks great on the cover, but it is heavily photoshopped. I think he is a decent actor, but he is not one of my faves. Katie Holmes' transformation in the past few years, and the way that Nicole Kidman seemed stifled when she married to him, are cause for concern.
32i'm actually really happy that this movie is coming out and i can't wait to see it. i know that there are so many people that are against it, and i think that it's one of those that we should at least give the 'time of day' to. i hope that it has some compelling material, and i would be so thrilled to see his career come back with gusto...
33I don't think that he ever had a mental breakdown. So what if he joins the church of Scientology? What happened to freedom of religion. Its so closed minded to cast off ppl unlike you as crazy. I think it was just his falling out of favor with the media that outcasted him.
GOOD LUCK TO HIM AND HIS MOVIE.
AND GROW UP TO ALL THE CLOSE MINDED IDIOTS.
34I don't think I saw any post here associating his crazy with his religion. I think the crazy is all Tom. LOL
