Tina Fey is kicking off 2009 in a big way with the January cover of Vanity Fair. She got all dressed up in red, white, and blue to honor her newfound political stardom and was happy to talk about what it was like playing and meeting Sarah Palin. The election wasn't the only thing on the 30 Rock creator's mind as she sat down with the magazine to chat about her upbringing, having more kids with her professional and personal partner Jeff Richmond, and even Lindsay Lohan. Here's more:
- On helping out her troubled co-stars like Lindsay Lohan or Tracy Morgan: "I have no enabler bone in my body — not one. I’m sort of like, 'Oh, are you going crazy? I’ll be back in an hour.'"
- On growing up a little geeky: "No one feels right in their own skin, particularly in high school. I really didn’t have very many dates at all. And that’s not an exaggeration. But also, I don’t think we should discount the fact that unplucked eyebrows and short hair with a perm may not have been the best offering, either. . . . I remember bringing people over in high school to play — that’s how cool I am — that game Celebrity. That’s how I successfully remained a virgin well into my 20s, bringing gay boys over to play Celebrity."
- On having another baby: "I feel like the window is closing — I’m 38. Obviously you want the best chance of the baby being healthy, and I think with our life and jobs right as they are at this moment, it doesn’t seem possible. It’s the year after the baby comes that is like someone hitting you every day in the face with a hammer."
To see what Tina thinks about her ability to wear leopard print and strip clubs just read more.
- On her husband going to a strip club: "It didn’t go great when you came back, did it? I was very angry. It was disrespectful. . . I love to play strippers and to imitate them. I love using that idea for comedy, but the idea of actually going there? I feel like we all need to be better than that. That industry needs to die, by all of us being a little bit better than that."
- On her genes: "Because of the Greek-girl thing, I have, like, boobs and butt," so "I only have two speeds — either matronly or a little too slutty. I have to be steered away from cheetah print."
With her multiple Emmy wins and successful show, Tina has had an incredible past 12 months — and even Barbara Walters, who put Tina on her Most Fascinating Person of 2008 list, agrees. Now that Tina's in control of her career more than ever, we can't wait to see what she comes up with next.

She looks A-MAZING, love her..
1I love her being on the cover of Vanity Fair!!!
2She deserves every bit of her fame. Smart, talented, and purty.
love her
3I can think of very few celebrities today who truly deserve to be famous, let alone grace the cover of Vanity Fair. Tina Fey is one of them. Yay, Tina!
4I happened to watch Mean Girls last night (with my very unenthusiastic boyfriend) and I fell in love with it again (RIP Lindsay's career).
Ms. Norbury- "My t-shirt's stuck to my sweater isn't it?"
Cady- "Yeah."
Ms. Norbury- "FanTAStic."
Principal- "Oh HAILLL no, I did not leave the South Side for THIS."
5I love Tina! Smart and funny, very rare in Hollywood...
6you have to respect tina fey- she does celebrity in an intelligent way! she looks great in the white shirt/ black skirt pics
7I'll be ever so glad when her 'wave' crashes.
8She is great but its a shame that she became more famous than Governor Palin, who actually does something more worthwhile than entertainment. I thought Fey should have bowed out after a few episodes...it went too far.
9Tink08, sike!!! The Palin skits were hilarious and I highly doubt that Fey is more famous than Sarah.
10I love her. She's the antithesis of the airhead celebrities like ____ and ____ (fill in whoever that is for you; there are too many to choose from). She's smart and talented and doesn't apologize for it. Oh and also, she actually speaks, dresses and acts her age, a rarity in the entertainment business.
11I love Tina Fey but I felt like the article focused too much on how she used to be "frumpy" and "round." Even the subtitle said "the author reports on how a tweezer, cream rinse, a diet, and a Teutonic will transformed a mousy brain into a brainy glamour-puss."
I actually have more respect for Tina Fey after this article but I think I lost a little for Maureen Dowd.
12Oh, and the red satin shoes are DIVINE!
13tink08...well she is probably, by far, the most intelligent of the two (j/k sort of) and it doesn't hurt that she is in a position that suits her talent. Palin might be an excellent Gov, but she put herself on the chopping block when she accepted VP knowing she wasn't qualified.
Anyways, go Tina! I love the two speeds comment, though we seriously disagree about strippers.
14loved her pre-palin and will love her forever.
15I love Tina even more after reading this. And she looks fantastic on the cover!
I don't understand the stripper comments...was there some controversy that i missed where her husband was seen at a strip club? It seems like an odd thing to bring up in an interview.
16I agree jessie, Palin put herself out there for the attacks (if that is what you want to call them) when she accepted a "job" that she was seriously under qualified for.
Did you see too, in that article she finally reveals how that scar got on her face...I have been wondering about that for YEARS. I know it's non of my business and if she wanted to say she would have, but it is one less mystery for me now.
17well this really is her year isn't it? it's amazing how you can be so successful in one arena, and then poof - you're even more in another. she's one lucky woman - that's for sure.
18I always thought Tina was funny and now, after reading this, I have gained so much respect for her. I really like her...she seems pretty down-to-earth, intelligent and well deserving of her success. Go Tina!
19how gorgeous and smart
20Fan-freakin'-tastic.
21Love the Celebrity quote.
I like Tina Fey. I like her look, her accomplishments, and I LOVE 30 Rock!!
22Tina Fey is my role model.
23I love Tina Fey. I have a friend who works for NBC (not doing anything glamorous) and everyone there was thrilled for her when she got the head writer job on SNL because she was so well liked by everyone from the pages to the secretaries to the techy people. She deserves her success.
24she's no Sarah Palin, but she has the look down pretty good!
25ok on people.com they made a big deal about the story of how she got the scar on the left-side of her face. Which I never even noticed... it isn't very noticeable, but apparently a stranger got out of the car and sliced her face when she was little.. crazy stuff.
26the pictures are gorgeous
27she is a total role model! and GORGEOUS!!
28She's awesome! This is an issue definately worth buying, if just for her.
29she looks good here.....
30She looks amazing here! I know she was famous before the Sarah Palin impersonations, but that gig sky rocketed her to a new level. Good for her!!
31Wow she looks incredible.
32definitely a butter face
33finally found out about her scar and that's horrible that some loser psycho would do that to a child, or anyone...she's super smart and talented
34Tina looks fantastic in these photos.
I read that article too jaan... that is so scary and sad.
35tina fey is so beautiful and absolutely my idol. her husband seems awesome too. i love her!!
