Yes, I do think that was racist of Oprah to say, but I think that she was showing how times had changed and that for her grandmother's generation, that was all black people could hope for...to work for "nice" white people, because they were limited in their job options. I don't think Oprah's comment was racist. First of all she was speaking at an HBCU and second her whole point was that at one point in time all a black person could hope for was a for a white family to take them in as a maid, cook, or chaffeur who would allow them to wear their child's hand me downs and pay them halfway decently. But now we have a whole new generation of African-Americans graduating college (which was not likely not too long ago). Who have more to hope for then to be someone's hired help.
