Brad Pitt popped into Larry King Live last night for an interview via satellite, and while the focus was on Benjamin Button and his Make it Right program, there were questions about his family, Obama's election, and current events. Here are some highlights:
- On why people are interested in his family: "I've stopped thinking about it, really. I mean, I don't know. There are certainly people I'm interested in. It's quite complimentary. But, you know — and I think it is an interesting family. It's not your usual family. I'm quite interested in my family actually. I certainly don't see it as anything less than a compliment."
- On being a father of six: "No, man, it wears you out. Are you kidding? I'm aging fast. It's worth every second of it. Not for me there's not [anything better in the world than being a father]. No, not for me. I would agree with that. . . . Of course, you know, I got to spend a few decades being idiotic and hell-bent and solipsistic, and everything else. So, you know, I got time to get all that out of my system. So . . . "
- On Obama:"I think, overnight, we redefined what America's about. I couldn't be any happier and more hopeful for the — for America, for the upcoming — in the upcoming years. And that team he just announced, I'm so impressed with."
To see another clip of Brad and to read about photos of his kids and his connection to Mumbai, just read more.
- On selling photos of their kids for charity: "There's a bounty on our heads. And these pictures are going to come out at some point. And they're going to be chasing us, and they're going to — they're going to go to the ends of the earth to get these photos. And we just thought, well, maybe we could — since there's such a bounty, and that bounty is so obnoxious, we could take that money and funnel it to something good. And that's what we decided to do. It's still a bit uncomfortable to do such a thing, but I know it's right in the end and that's a decision we made."
- On the events in Mumbai: "Well, funny enough, we were actually — we saw — we stayed in the Taj. And we saw — the room we stayed in was on fire"
- On his movie: "You know, it certainly makes me conscious of how much time do I have left. Do I — you know, is this my day? Do I have 40 years left? What do I want to do in that time? How do I want to use it? And who do I want to spend it with? And I don't know. Me, man, it makes me — this film just makes me want to hug my kids and call my folks. And it's really special. And I'm not a salesman. I find this one quite authentic and something really special."

The jolie - pitt family is wonderful.
1great interview
2"It's still a bit uncomfortable to do such a thing"--Sooo glad he acknowledged this regarding taking pictures of their kids for charity.
What he said about Obama was really great. And I love the work he is doing in New Orleans for Hurricane Katrina victims. If I didn't have to work right now, I'd be down there myself helping out. I'm glad he's bringing attention to crises in this country as well as abroad.
3Celebrity news on CNN still feels off to me. All things have a time and place and CNN never seemed like the right place.
4Ekaterina, I agree that the charity 'funneling' seems more appropriate when they address the exploitation aspect. Makes it seem less like a publicity issue, they really do sell photos for the purpose of helping others.
5Jessie, agree with you too. I understood covering Britney's 5150 because it could have been a result of hurting herself or something severe- they could have thought they had a Marilyn Monroe to report on. But an interview about kids? ENews and Parenting magazine only please.

6these people need to quit asking the same damn questions I'm starting to feel sorry for some of these celebrities
7I can't wait to see them on the red carpet next week.
8pink, remember that they don't HAVE to do the talk shows, they could decline them. I don't feel sorry for them one bit, and even LESS sorry for this loser.
9I agree pinkprincess. What kind of journalist are these people. Can someone please come up with an original question. I would love to see an interview where they discussed ACTING and MOVIES instead of his kids. Geez
10mykie i think interviews should promote their work and causes, but to ask questions about their kids is going over board maybe once or twice but this is getting ridiculous, you can tell some celebs get annoyed and the journalist continue to invade
11But pink, if they're annoyed and they know what's coming, why do the interviews? They have to take some responsibility too.
12Would anyone think less of them if they declined to answer questions about their relationship or their family life? I don't understand why they don't do that. As much as the interviewer makes a choice about what redundant questions they're going to ask, he has the right to not answer anything he doesn't want to answer.
13I thought it was part of the promotion deal and they were obligated to do them. Considering how much money the studios pay them it wouldn't surprise me if the interviews were in their contracts.
14Amesabelle, maybe they think that by dodging the questions it would add an air of "mystery" and only make the media attention worse.
15They are probably contractually obligated to promote the movie, but that's it.
Which came first, the chicken or the egg?
16true mykia and ames
17I think some of you are being ignorant for talking about these bussines without knowing what it is about... they HAVE to do these kind of interviews whenever they are promoting a movie...
Besides if some of you have babies you should know that parents are always proudly talking about their kids...
18Maybe a bit of both. I think it natural to want to talk and gush about the happy things in your life. For most of us that isn't invitation to ask personal questions and be stalked by cameras. It reminds me of what Clint said about being called recording stars, then movies stars, and now super stars. It seems the interest around the celebs has increased and blown up, for what reason...who knows?
19I had to look up "solipsistic". Celebrities aren't supposed to be smarter than me!

pinkprincess ITA. No matter who's doing the asking, they seem to make sure they pose the same inquiries over and over. Last year is pretty identical to this one. Anne Curry's was a mirror image.
Kids "more?"
papz "feelings?"
travel "where next?"
humanitarian "what next?"
I love them but I guess until there is something new, this is all there is.
21I love how ill prepared and oblivious Larry King is as an interviewer. You would think that he would do some homework before an interview..say maybe watch the last two interviews he gave and then avoid those question altogether or ask follow ups.. but nope...
Were you in Berlin when Obama became the President Elect (covered on Oprah).
The kids (covered with Ann Curry)
A Larry since you brought up Mumbai and know they stayed at the hotel that was attacked.. no follow up question as to traveling with the kids..does it change you perspective of traveling to these areas? Will it make yu stick closer to home base New Orleans this year?
Bring up the mustache (covered on Oprah..with Ann Curry and at the BB premiere..) but no follow up question about Tarrantino and shooting a controversial movie in Berlin?
Is it just me or is Larry King way way past his prime?
22what does ITA mean? lol
23ITA - I totally agree?
1) The man uses "solipsistic" like it ain't no thang - can he GET any more sexy?
2) Imabeliever - I think Larry King past his prime about 45 years ago.
24Wise man.
25I think it's nice when they are talk about their kids and when a celebrity declines to mention them, it seems a bit rude. I definitely don't think kids should be the focus of celebrity interviews, but it is okay to ask them one or two quick questions about them and move on. I REALLY get annoyed when they ask them if they are going to have more kids...of course they are, and they have said that many times.
I wonder when all of this celebrity baby craziness began. I think it was late 2003/early 2004, when Gwyneth Paltrow had Apple, Julia Roberts had twins Hazel and Phinnaeus, Kate Hudson had Ryder, Debra Messing had Roman, Heidi Klum had Leni, etc. (I know there were more celebs, but these ones had the most attention especially Gwyneth Paltrow).
26They all need to learn the Richard Gere interview technique, where he reflects questions back very nicely, always seems gracious, without revealing anything too personal. You can watch a Richard Gere interview and learn hardly anything personal about him, yet it never feels like he's dodging questions.
27God! he thought the Mumbai incident was... funny?
