Gwyneth Paltrow and Madonna have long been fans of their beloved personal trainer, Tracy Anderson, and in this month's Gotham Magazine Gwyneth sat down to chat all about her two-hour-a-day fitness regime. She also opened up about a few more personal things, like her family, hair, and childhood. Here's more:
- On sharing Tracy with Madonna: "The first time I did her workout, I knew Madonna would flip for it because it’s so hard and so effective. Right now, if Madonna or I have a project and we’re not in the same city, she’ll work with the one who’s traveling. When I did Iron Man she was with me in California. Now she’s on tour with Madonna, so I have another trainer from her studio here with me."
- On working less now that she has kids: "I haven’t starred in a film since my kids were born, and I don’t think I will. I’ll never get these days back—they’re so delicious, and precious, and hilarious, I don’t want to miss them."
- On chopping off her hair: "I’d had it long for so long, I think I’d made it like a talisman. I kept thinking about all the life I’d experienced while the hair was growing—I’d look at the ends and think, I had this hair when my dad was alive, and when I was pregnant with my daughter…. Then one day I was doing a Vogue shoot with Orlando Pita and I said, 'That’s it, I can’t take it anymore.' I wanted a fresh start, so he just chopped it off. And now I love it."

- On summering at her house in the Hamptons: "I work really hard there—it’s like running an inn, in a way. We have a lot of guests, which is fantastic, but sometimes I feel so tired. At the end of the summer I got pneumonia. I think I just overextended myself."
- On what she loved about growing up in NYC: "Underage smoking on stoops of brownstones, going to museums, the seasons, and how great a school Spence was — how well they prepared me for life."
- On having another baby: "In theory, I’d love to. But it’s really hard for me when I’m pregnant — I’m sick as a dog for months. Sometimes I think, 'Oh my God, I want another one right now, I’ll sustain any amount of vomiting or whatever.' And then sometimes I think, Gosh, everyone’s sleeping through the night now. If it’s meant to happen, it’ll happen."
Gwyneth also said she's not doing any duets with her famous musical husband or BFF anytime soon. It's pretty obvious that Gwyneth has serious dedication to her workouts, but it seems like her family trumps all when it comes to her priorities.

AND WE CARE BECAUSE.....
1I've done some of her workouts and I nearly died. I mean my arms were jello
2Dude, are Gwynneth's shoes really bad there? I feel like they should have covered her feet up...
3Gwyneth always seems to wear the most horrible looking shoes.
4God, I feel really bad for her. How she slaves her life away hosting parties at her house at the Hamptons. No wonder she got pneumonia. It's a well-know fact that life in the Hamptons wears you OUT.
5Well, maybe she hasn't starred in films, but how about co-starring?
And I don't get her taste in clothes, if she has one at all. These shoes are a good example, or that awful dress she wore recently at that movie promo in Europe, with the black see-through lace and white underwear.
6hate. her.
7so SICK of the GOOP spilling out of this woman's mouth! and can't stand that fraud of a personal trainer.
8Working out 2 1/2 hours a day seems more like an unhealthy addiction than a healthy lifestyle. Not impressed.
9... on a side note, does any one know if the trainer's workout dvd is worth buying? or any suggestions?
10Doing an hour of recommended cardio a day and an hour of weight training *GASP* that does sound unhealthy. And can you BELIEVE she actually puts her family before her career, I can TOTALLy see why you hate her...
11I got the video and it's good...the only downfall is it's too long. Im a stay at home mom with two kids and it really is hard to get around to doing it start to finish, but I can see how if you can dedicate the time you would be in awesome shape.....
122 hours a day!
13I wish my mother had spent more time with me when I was little
14I like gwyn onscreen, but off, she's sooo self-important. gag.
15i like her mom, but gwyneth is waaaay to phony and snobby for my taste.
16Praise Jesus that she's not going to start singing again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
17tracy anderson's workout dvds are the best!!!!!
18krae- I agree, oncscreen she is fine, off, she just KILLS me.
Yes, my adolescent experiences at Spence were fantastic, and that house in the Hamptons- gorgeous, but it can be so exhausting, and why YES I have 2.5 hours a day to work out with my personal trainer, don't we all!
Look, I get that wealthy people who had privileged upbringings should not be disliked solely for that fact. Good for her, good for her family, whatever. But to be giving all these interviews, and writing her ridiculous website about it-enough already!
19Most people are LUCKY if they get even 1 HOUR A DAY to workout!
Personally, the only time I can ever fit in a 2 1/2 hour workout its because its a weekend and I have a free afternoon.
20Glamoured,
21I feel you. How exhausting it must be to be embarrassingly rich and enjoying your money. Whew! Glad it's not me, NOT!
I don't care much for her hair like this...and I think the color (and regrowth) is blah...
but, I do love the dresses in the photo on the right, but the shoes just don't look right IMO
22I don't understand the need to have a personal trainer with you on set? If you have been working out like that for years do you really need her anymore? Seems strange to me.
23Normal people don't NEED to work out 2 hours a day. In fact, working out less than an hour 3 times a week is optimal (and doing light activity on off days like walking your dog is great). But unless you're going to be in a movie that requires you to look perfect, or you're going on tour and need to fit into skimpy costumes everyday, 2 hours is just ridiculous!
And Tracy Anderson is full of sh*t.
Mommy4ever, if you want a good workout that's quick and won't chew up all your time (especially if you're a mom), try Fit Yummy Mummy (just google it)
24I don't understand why people dislike her so much, and it's not like I'm her biggest fan or anything. She's just meh to me...good actress, good mom, a little stuck-up maybe? But pretty harmless overall. Although I admit that 2 hours of exercise a day seems ridiculous.
252 hours of workout is bonkers. Stat.
26who the hell is that in the pics with her?
27I love her mom; she seems so real and nice. But for some reason Gwyneth is just a little bit off-putting. I can't really put my finger on it. Comments like the one regarding the Hamptons don't help.
28I'm single, no kids, and would never have 2 hours a day to work because I have a full time job. I can't imagine having that kind of time, if you add up all of that time its roughly 40 days a year she spends working out. That is incredible, and I can't believe she is advocating that people should (or maybe she isn't?) work out that much.
29LOL didn't know so many people disliked GP! Eh, I guess I'm indifferent...I'm not sure if she's self-important or just super reserved? People like that are sometimes hard to read..
As for working out 2 hours a day...take it easy Gwyneth! Relax a little! Working out is supposed to be a healthy part of an active lifestyle, not a scary obsession
30Yeah and she's always trying to downplay everything about her life, insisting that she's 'normal' and 'just like us' by sharing her cutesy recipes for home made banana waffles and giving us spiritual advice (goop)
excuse me while I HURL on this copy of tracy anderson's DVD.
31i dont like where she's going. madonna's body resembles that of a young muscular boy to begin with and i dnt want gwyn to be like her. besides, whats with the hair talk?!!!!!!! i mean is she the first lady to cut her hair or what? why did she have to make a big deal of such a silly subject and to keep on saying ''i had it when my fathr was alive and when ....blablabla who cares? despite her hairtalk and her trainer i still like her and think that she's the cutest actress
32ugh
oh poor gwynie - the whole summer long entertaining guests ... and of all places , The
Hamptons, oh the horror!
and those shoes in the second pic are horrible!!!
33Oh this woman makes me feel ill. Just why is she still considered relevant?
