well i think that it's her own business - and she shouldn't have to talk about it. she got a lot of crap for being with joel madden when she was so young and she showed us that you can handle a relationship like that and that there's nothing that's not right about it. i think that if she wants to dignify it with a response, then that's fine, but if not then that's her prerogative as well. we've seen where 'virginity' claims have gotten people in the past (i.e. Jessica Simpson and Britney Spears)

I didn't understand the "Yes" or "No" choices either. I didn't think we needed her to clear up these rumors, but now she just made it more confusing. 1.) is she ashamed to be a virgin? (2.) was she not a virgin at the time and they made up those quotes or (3.) was she a virgin at the time, but she did NOT want to tell the world that?

I don't think she is a virgin anymore and she doesn't want people to have a false impression of her. It doesn't really matter to me anyway, I stopped liking her after Lizzie McGuire ended.

By the way, I saw Hilary's photos in this magazine and they were pretty tasteful (& there was no nudity) but yes she does seem to be trying to sex up her image.

Yeah, that poll was worded really badly. I think she has a right to stick up for herself -- as far as saying it's nobody's business but her own, like she did. I hate when these young women announce that they're virgins and they're staying virgins (like Britney did). It's nobody's business and it sets women back a couple hundred years by making it into a big deal. You don't see male starts discussing (or being asked) whether or not they're virgins.

I don't care about any of them, but I can see where it's a marketing tool for people with a young audience, because the parents will buy stuff if they think it's sending a "good message" to their kids.

I just don't see why it should be public information. Couldn't the kids and parents assume from the JB's clean-cut image that they're good role models? Do we really need a statement from them about their non-sex life? It's just TMI, IMO.

It's not that there were RUMORS that she was a virgin. It's that she was QUOTED (by Elle) as saying she was a virgin, when according to her she never said that.

If I was misquoted. Or a reliable magazine like that says I said something that I didn't say. I would set things straight, no matter what the subject was.

I am one of those few people who DO care when people say that they are a virgin or not. Don't get me wrong, I don't think celebrities HAVE to tell us whether or not they are a virgin, and it DOESN'T determine whether or not I like a certain celeb, but I am pleased when I hear someone in Hollywood is still a virgin because it's nice to hear that they are holding on to their morals in such a sexualized industry. (and I'm not saying that people who have sex are immoral, don't read into it too much).

I just think it's creepy that the media thinks it okay to ask teenage girls whether they're virgins or not and if they'll stay that way. Sex as a topic is fun, but no adult, aside from the kids parents, has any business asking them about their sex life and plans, so I think it's great Hilary is sticking up for herself.

I'm sick of the media trying to hold women up to outdated double standards while simultaneously selling the same women as sex icons . It's just a lame attempt to make sex this taboo, dirty thing that we'll all want but will be to ashamed to have.
