Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal were reunited stateside yesterday, heading to pick up Ava in school and sweetly holding hands through the rain. Ever the gentleman, Jake carried some flowers as the trio headed home. Today it will be Jake with all the presents as he celebrates at his 28th birthday party, but it looks like being home with Reese and her family around the holidays is the perfect present. While Jake continues to film Prince of Persia, Reese is gearing up for more projects of her own. The actress has signed on to two new comedic projects in 2009 working with some of Hollywood's finest, Cameron Crowe and James L Brooks.

15I still think it is mainly for publicity. It was too convenient and out of the blue and solved all his problems (or is trying to) with the gay rumors and avoided her being cast as dumped and desperate for a relationship by the tabloids. I don't think he is completely gay and I bet they have a level of affection for one another but I don't think this is some organic red hot romance.
16I have never gotten the gay vibe from Jake at all. I think Reese wanted to ease back into relationships rather than just serially dating everyone.

His family is very forward thinking, and it's not as if Hollywood doesn't embrace a gay leading man. It's so ridiculous to claim it just because he was in Brokeback Mountain (Which, by the way, was an excellent movie). They look cute together.

21hollywood doesn't REALLY embrace gay leading men. they say it's ok to be gay but i still think there's discrimination when it comes to roles. most gay in hollywood either stay in the closet or play in the stereotypically gay roles
i don't think he's gay anyway. it might seem like a coincidence that they're together but they've known each other for years. he was one of ryan's good friends. who knows? he might've been in love with her but couldn't say anything b/c she was with his friend.

25First, for those of you unaware of the term "beard" it has nothing to do with actual facial hair ... a woman (like Reese) acts as a gay man's "beard," or disguise when she agrees to be his "girlfriend."
Why Reese would do this is pretty clear -- failed marriage (doesn't want to look too dumped), movies coming out, ex-husband in a relationship already. I'm sure she'd love to have a real relationship but in the absence of that, she gets to help out a friend and her own rep .. win-win, right?
Except it is a real shame that Jake is still forced to stay in the closet. He had the perfect moment during Brokeback but it seems he chickened out, or his management dissuaded him from doing it or whatever. Reese has a rep for being pretty tightly controlled (she named her production company "Type A" for god's sake) so I have no trouble believing she saw an opportunity to lighten up her image while helping a brother out. Because there is nothing about these staged PR photos that appear anything more than brotherly/sisterly. imho......

the gay thing again.... it was a MOVIE. Funny how I don't recall hearing anything about him being gay prior to Brokeback Mountain.
27Jake has ALWAYS said he is NOT gay, why the eff would he lie and then make BBM, was Kirsten a "beard" too, for gods sake they lived together as well, really it's time you let it go and leave Jake to live the life HE chooses not what you would like him too.
