John Mayer has been good at keeping his opinions to himself recently, but in an upcoming interview with Blender magazine, he shares his thoughts regarding his BFF Pete Wentz's relationship with Ashlee Simpson. He said, "To have this beautiful relationship with someone who gets attacked so often, and to handle it with such grace and respect — I just find that really impressive." John's in a strange position to comment, having dated Ashlee's sister, Jessica. Plus, it seems like a bit of a backhanded compliment that insults Ashlee. So tell us — should John have even commented on Pete and Ashlee?

3The comments seemed pretty innocent to me...its like your trying to find something out of nothing....it sounds like a random comment that is like barely noteworthy.... :S

4Originally I thought he was referring to Pete taking heat over the Howard interview and just being a tool in general, but now that I understand he's talking about Ashlee it sounds a little more like he's implying that Pete is doing her a favor by tolerating her reputation. I certainly don't disagree that she's a dingbat but that's got to be a little embarrassing for her.

sky, it's not a stretch. If you've ever met the man in real life and spent more than 5 minutes in his presence, jerk doesn't begin to describe him. His picture should be listed right above the word Narcissism. I met him at a bar in New York last year and went home and threw all of his cds I had away right afterward.

23Pete and John have a history of chatting about one another since they are great friends and always have good things to say...it's a compliment and that's it. I agree with those above who have said that we are looking for something out of nothing.

29Myst, I wanna know too! I like him musically (Gravity is my fav song), but he's always seemed like the jerk meter is off the chart with him. He always seems so bored.
Also, I think I figured out his women style. He likes women who will bring him attention even if he pretends he's bugged by the attention. I think he loves it until he gets bored with the woman and wants to move on. Just wait, the next woman will be just as famous. He's got a definite pattern imo.

34Celebrity or not, don't we all usually comment on everything whether it's gossipping or blogging. I hate saying this but "whatever." This is a ridiculous post. Whether or not Mayer is a jerk, has nothing to do with whether or not he can comment on someone else's relationship.
35I wish people would quit reading more into quotes than are there. Pete is his best friend, he wanted to pay him a compliment. That's all it was. I am so tired of spin!
36minnie2011 - Probably less than that. He is know to dumping women before their birthday, of course only to get back to them after it. I doubt he will get back together with her after he dumps her again, even though I wouldn't be surprised if he did.
37Wow I think we all have a little too much time on our hands just commenting on this period. But to keep record of when Mayer dumps his women depending on their birthday is a little sad and scary. Sorry. I know the whole celeb obsession culture is definitely weird, which I do not deny to be a part of, but sometimes you've got to draw the line
38To those wanting to know. Last year, I was in NY for my cousin's wedding and we were having her bachelorette party at this bar. John, his brother and a couple of his band mates were there that night and of course all of us, who were huge fans we were stoked about and one of the guys from the band invited us to hang out with the. Man, when I say that man spent the whole night talking about himself, I really mean it. I've never seen a person complete turn just about every topic about himself. What really turned me off was this unnecessary crack that he made about Jessica Simpson that night. I don't care for her, but he was dating her and it was a really jerky move on his part to say what he said about her.
Hence, why once I flew back home, I threw out all of his CDs in my collection.

42I think John is complementing Pete on how he doesn't let the outside negative stuff said about Ashlee affect his love for her as he did in his relationship with Jessica. Pete doesn't let the fear it will ruin his career affect his great relationship with his wife. It takes a real man to set that aside and just be "Man Enough" to love his woman in spite of what is said about her. Pete found the woman that makes him happy, he knows she's the right one and that enough for him.

Did Perez Hilton take over for Pop? He made a simple comment about being able to do what he obviously couldn't...how is that so wrong? There's nothing backhanded about it.
And I've known lots of ladies who have randomly met John--in a club, gym, etc...and he's never been anything but kind to them...and 2 of them weren't even fans of his!
