Blake Lively worked the old Hollywood look as the cover girl for Vogue's February issue. She's no stranger to designer clothes and perfect hair and makeup thanks to Serena van der Woodsen, but scoring this cover is a pretty big honor for the young actress. In the article she talks about fashion and why audiences love Gossip Girl. Here are highlights:
- On how the show ignores the economic recession:: "We live in an alternate universe on the show; it's a heightened reality, so I don't think the writers would work that in. They created a show that people can watch after a long day and not have to stress and worry and feel the burdens of real life. It's just an escape, watching these sparkly lives and just escaping into this other world for an hour."
- On the clothes: "The fashion is just unbelievable. You can watch our show on mute and be entertained. Just being here, walking around, you pick it up really quickly. In New York, you put on skinny jeans and riding boots and a leather coat and handbag, and you take on that posture and character. It becomes very natural."
- On putting her personal touches on Serena's wardrobe: "The more they work with me and see my style, and the more I learn about fashion, the more input I have. It's more collaborative now than it was in the beginning because then I had no idea what I was doing."
While Serena's life was more focused on her boyfriend and Internet gossip than her fabulous wardrobe on last night's episode, we always love coveting the amazing ensembles we see on the show week after week.

The fashions on that show are awesome. Blake's all right, though I like Leighton better.
1I'm shocked she got the cover, but I'm thrilled to see GG represented. Blake's great, and I think this will help steal some attention back to Dan & Serena and away from Chuck & Blair.
2She should consider this type of look for events like the Golden Globes. The way that she usually wears her hair/makeup is gorgeous but she should mix things up a bit and experiment with different looks.

I like her. She seems like a down to earth person. I do agree though that I would rather see Leighton on the cover. She's the true star of Gossip Girl.

24i don't watch the show, but goodness her and leighton are gorgeous. i like that neither of them are sticks, although still slender, and for such a steamy show, they seem pretty scandal-free in real life.

And I actually disagree. For the most part, I prefer Blake's style (at least her everyday style) to Leighton's, though Leighton dresses AMAZINGLY on the show I find she doesn't really dress similarly to her character in real life (and I looove Blair's wardrobe!)

27I'm with everyone else, she's too much of a newbie to have on the cover of Vogue. If they wanted to acknowledge the cultural impact of Gossip Girl and have a zeitgeisty cover I think they should have had both her and Leighton on the cover.

35She is so overrated, I'll never understand why the magazines only focus on her. I wish they would start putting other GG cast members on their covers. Since she's only on the cover because of Gossip Girl, the other cast members or at least Leighton Meester since she's the other female lead should have been included. If they had I would have grabbed a copy.
I doubt Blake making the cover will help steal some attention back to Dan & Serena and away from Chuck & Blair. If that was possible it would have happened a long time ago. After all she has been on plenty of important mainstream magazine covers and she gets was more attention then Ed Westwick and Leighton Meester. Besides the majority of Vogue readers probably don't watch Gossip Girl since it's a teen show.
