Last night, a rumor surfaced that Nicole Richie, who has been noticeably absent from the starlet scene over the past few weeks, hasn't been traipsing around behind her boyfriend Joel on his tour, but instead had entered rehab. The National Enquirer and Star Magazines, which hit stands, tomorrow, claim that Nicole entered the treatment center on May 11 to deal with her "anorexia and addiction to pills." The stories say she was there until the 19th, at which point she started outpatient treatment.
Just hours after the rumor started circulating, her rep issued this statement: "She is not in rehab. She is at home in Glendale. Sobriety is an ongoing process but she is sober."
While it's good to hear that Nicole is just laying low, it's definitely unlike her to stay out of the press for even a few weeks. The last we saw Nicole, other than some pictures we saw whose real date was unknown which accompanied an unsubstantiated rumor that she and Joel had broken up, was back at the end of April in Australia with Joel. Hopefully her rep's statement is true and Nicole really is taking some healthy time for herself.
That being said, I'm sure Nicole will be out for a photo op soon. Plus, it's not like Paris is going to be able to pull her weight promoting The Simple Life when she's locked up.

I don't know, seems to me that this girl is far more sane than Paris and maybe her head was really getting too dizzy by the attention and film shooting lately.

26I'm very inclined to believe the story, especially if you carefully read everything. It claims she was in rehab but left on the 19th and is doing outpatient treatment. The catch is (I think, in my opinion) that in her PR statement (which was released either late last night or early this morning) it says she isn't in rehab, present tense, meaning she isn't currently in there, which is true to the rumor.
However, if there was a rumor that I was in rehab, but checked out a few days later and that story was untrue, I would be damn sure to be perfectly clear and say that I was never there in the first place. Being perfectly clear and flipping news stories is the job of a PR person, so I just can't believe that the wording of the press release was just an oversight.
Either way, the people who started circulating this story are claiming to have pictures, so that should be pretty decisive

39I'm not sure about the rehab, she's seemed rather clean lately. But treatment for anorexia... I wouldn't doubt it. She put on a few pounds for a while and was looking quite good, but lately she's back to her stick figure days. I hope she gets well soon!

41I agree, just bacause she is not seen stumbling all over the place does not indicate she is clean. I think she just has an addictive personality, period, and having so much money and free time can make your problem even worse. Half of the people that need to clean themselves up usually need to work or tend to their family, What responsibilities does this chic have?
