President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama must have been tired after the whirlwind day, but tonight they made the rounds from one ball to the next until late into the evening. Michelle looked absolutely stunning in her Jason Wu gown while President Obama was handsome as ever. Beyonce took to the mic to sing "At Last" for the Obamas' first dance of the night. Even Beyonce couldn't hold back her tears and there is so much love between the new first couple, but the choice of singer and song might have been playing it too safe. So watch below and tell us, Beyonce performing for President Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama's first dance — perfectly touching or too predictable?
The more I see this celebs flocking at the White House and Obama Im annoyed and alarmed with the morals and values of America. I rather see more of our troops than this bratty clueless ungrateful celebs.
1I thought that their dance was very touching. She just glowed and President Obama was so suave. I am so envious of their relationship.
2I thought their dance was absolutely beautiful. I am so excited to see President Obama and his family in action. Today's events were beyond amazing to watch.
3So romantic and heartfelt, I teared up a bit. It was absolutely perfect.
4I certainly did not tear up, but I don't think you can "play it too safe" at an event with this kind of decorum. I would have been horrified if she thought this was the place to try something new.
5Im just glad she left her metal glove at home!!!
6it was a very heartfelt, sincere and touching moment. i teared up a bit.
7I think its beyond lame. A love song written from a wanton woman to her lover, as his theme song? Umm, no.
What's next 3 years of Kool & the Gang's "Celebration"? How about "America The Beautiful"?
To me all this "Finally!" and "At Last" business implies that at some point in the future this will not be the norm - a non-white President. It builds Pres. Obama up to a god-like status that he cannot possible live up to.
And all this from a black American - ha.
8Beyonce isn't a very good singer. What an unfortunate choice.
9Awww beautiful!
10Awww beautiful!
11Obama inspires me to run for President because no experience is needed and I just need to be make great speeches. Only in America. The wonnabee Black Jack and Blackie O. Nice political payback leaning on Caroline Kennedy aka airhead all she says in her interviews you know you know you know,Im a democrat you know you know you know.
12Barack brings change alright when its back to Clinton's Whitewater Administration.
Theron has hate for America? She just became an American citizen.
Weirdo.
13What a show you're having.... I wish politics were more serious, less showbusiness...
14Did you see the Beyonce interview on ABC? I think she really said a lot about how people feel about the new pres. and she said it well. And the president probably spent the longest time at the armed forces ball when he talked to troops in Afganastan (sp...what happened to the spell checker?) and he and the first lady danced with with soldiers.
15That is a pretty ignorant poll, Pop. You took something beautiful like the first dance between President and First Lady Obama and invited folks to tear it down.
Shame on you.
16I liked it!
17You know what. I amcabsolutely sick and tired of what people are saying Obama will and won't do. We will notnknow until he does it people!
I am sick and tired of ppl critising this celebration! We are not celebrating change. Why can't anyone seem to realize this? We are celebrating the fact that 46 years ago, Monday, a man stood at that very spot and spoke of his dream! We are celebrating that we ate closer than ever to equal human rights for all!
We are celebrating because for ONCE Americans feel like their opinion mattered. That mistakes can be over looked and fixed and that fear shall no longer dictate what we do in our lives!
But most of all we are celebrating respect. Because without the respect of the world, America crumbed and began to be defeated. The world cried out for American citizens put their faith in the unknown. The world begged you not to be scared of thenpossibilties that "new" carried.
It's time to stop arguing and put away our ignorance anddufferences and realize that you need to stand as one to defeat the evils that mock your country.
As a Canadian, I'm proudest of the USA citizens today than I have EVER been. I was disgraced for so long to say I have duel citizenship. You may be proud of your country, but I will be blunt and honest: until today to everyone looking in George bush made you look like a joke.
TODAY YOu AS a COUNTRY CHANGED THAT!
I have a dream, that one day we will be able to put away our differences and stand together not as family, not as a country but as a world!
And yes it was absolutely stunning an I'm writing this on my phone so sorry for spelling an I'm sorry for the dramatic post.
18The Obamanation more like Obummer has flushed America down the toilet. More wars to come, religious and racial wars, moral and foreign policy collapse, depression while the brainwashed masses cheer.
19" We are not celebrating change. Why can't anyone seem to realize this? "
You pretty much contradicted yourself in your statement. I agree with it but that doesn't make sense.
20Bush was called "W". Obama should be "H" for H U S S E I N.
Btw Dow is now below 8,000.
21Whoa whoa sugar sisters, this poll was just asking about whether Beyonce singing "At Last" was touching or too predictable. Simmer down, kids!
22All the ensuing drama here notwithstanding, I didn't care for Beyonce's version of the song. I just find all of her singing difficult to listen to, honestly.
23same old crappy beyonce. i cannot listen to her very long without getting a migraine.
24chella and barack looked nice dancing together
Stick to the issue of the blog. The question is about Beyonce's performance at the ball.
Beyonce's version is mediocre, but Etta James sang the song with more feeling. Beyonce just sings loudly.
Sometimes, it seems as if she needs vocal training. I am ready to return to a time when quality singers prevailed.
25Love them. Loved it all.
I'm very jealous the US has someone like him.
26I thought it was really sweet that Beyonce starting tearing up. Say what you want about her, but she has such an amazing voice and is so talented.
27Good choice of song. I missed Beyonce singing it but I like the song and I think it is fitting.
28It's very beautiful, i almost cried...
29wow wow wow!!!
30couldn't be more perfect i started tearing !!!
31beautiful, one of the most touching moments all day. remember, the sour grapes bunch are in the deep minority with this whole thing.
32It was very sweet.
33I am kind of irked by the song choice just because it came off as "at last we have a black president" when there hasn't really been a great black candidate running before. Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson as president? Yikes! Alan Keyes has some good qualities, but again, it is pretty obvious to see why he wasn't elected, and wasn't even a front-runner in getting a nomination. I can't think of any other ones off the top of my head, but I know there have been other black men in for the nomination.
I don't know if they were going for that meaning before, or more "at last the darn campaigning is over!", but that is just the way it came off to me.
Please no more Beyonce~~ She is E-V-E-R-W-H-E-R-E!!! Why don't they ask Whitney Houston to sing?!
34Not a big Beyonce fan but the girl sung her butt off (no pun). I was so impressed, and she put so much heart and affection for the Obama's in it along with her own joy about what has happened. She made me shed a tear in her post song interview. I am impressed with B.
35Cause Whitney's voice is shot. Haven't you wondered why the few "leaked" Whitney songs suddenly disapeared? Love Whitney, but her voice like Aretha's has been jacked by smoking among other things.
36i thought that it was lovely -and that it was well suited for the ball and the first dance. she did a great job.
37I teared up during this first dance. I loved it. Beyonce did a great job, IMO. This was a wonderful moment, the President and First Lady looked amazing! So in love.
It would be great if we stuck to the topic, take all the other talk to CitizenSugar.
38I love them...and they looks so in love. Michelle looked stunning!
39Very romantic!
40Wow some people on here are really miserable!
Beyonce did a great job..sure she's no etta james but she does have a great voice.
I thought it was very touching.
Wackdoodle I skimmed the post you wrote and people aren't celebrating like he's going to be the last black president. They are celebrating since he's the first.
41What does it matter that your black? I dont understand why you wrote that at the end of your post?
I wouldn't go so far as to say I had tears in my eyes, but it was a nice moment.
42It was so touching.I was totally moved.
43God that was so touching, i'm not even american but i'm really pleased that this has happend, i think america are deffintlely showing the world how far they have come and what the world should really be like, acceptable to everyone and respectful....also that we all should be following in ur footsteps...aww that was so so lovely, i hope that this is the start of brilliant things....but i suppose we have to remember that he is only one man and that everyone needs to muck in to help out around the world.
44it was absolutely beautiful, and i love her dress
45I don't like Beyonce ("let me get an upgrade") at all, but I liked the song for this moment. I actually thought it did mean "At Last we have a black president", AND I am white, AND I'm OK that I thought it meant that. I did not vote for Obama, but I really like him and will embrace him as our president!!!
46No, it the song doesn't mean at last we have a black president, listen to the words of the song.
47No, it the song doesn't mean at last we have a black president, listen to the words of the song.
48It was predictable and a shameful plug for her new movie..next!
49How can a song be "too safe"? Is there another song you thought should have been sung that would have been more risky? Two people are slow-dancing to a beautiful love song and people are up in arms about the song choice? Let's worry about more important things... like Michelle's dress.
ha ha to liligwene - "at last" the campaign is over. so true!
