As part of Newsweek's annual roundtable discussion, celebs were asked if they Google themselves on a regular basis. Robert Downey Jr. proudly admitted that he reads up on himself, while Brad Pitt claimed the opposite, saying, "Never. First of all, I don't really know how to operate a computer." He's not the first star to have trouble with technology — Angelina once claimed she doesn't know how to turn on a computer, and Jennifer Aniston is supposedly computer illiterate. It's hard to believe so many celebs are behind the times, so tell us — do you think it's lame when stars say they can't use computers?

movie stars are too pampered. they have their assistants to turn on the computer for them.
1I'm pretty sure Brad is full of sh*t.
2How can you live in the 21 century and not be computer literate. They have all the money and opportunity to learn. What do they do all day between sat breaks.
3Considering this website and work are the 2 things I really use my computer for I can see why celebs might not use them as often. They don't do my kind of work that I sit here all day and they probably don't read the gossip as much as i do!
4i can understand not being completely computer literate because its true, they prob don't use them all that often with their jobs. but to claim you don't know how to turn on a computer? i mean c'mon now. Push. The. Button.
5I think it's fine for someone to say that they are "computer illiterate," since that has a loosely-held meaning; I mean, my mom says it because she doesn't know how to photoshop her digital photos before emailing them to my whole family.
But the whole Angelina and Brad saying that they don't know how to use a computer is total bullsh*t. They just say stuff like that to add to their image of neglecting modern western culture. In her own mind, Angelina is too good (or at least too zen) for technology. But in reality, she probably checks Perez Hilton just as much as I check my facebook page. Sorry, Sweetheart, but I just don't buy it.
6Brad knows how to build eco freiendly houses in hurricane torn New Orleans, and functions hell thrives in the Entertainment industry and he can't operate a computer? LIES, he just lost a level of respect for me, I mean lying for no reason is just stupid!
7I think there is a difference between not knowing "how to operate" a computer and celebs not being obsessed with what's posted about them on the Internet. I find it hard to believe that Brad Pitt can't *operate* a computer (they have said that Maddox looks things up online, so clearly, there is some computer literacy somewhere in that family). I do believe that many celebs don't actually read stuff about them online, though.
8i dont believe they dont know how to use a computer. they're just not as obsessed as we are!
9"they have said that Maddox looks things up online, so clearly, there is some computer literacy somewhere in that family"
I was totally going to post that.
10i dont believe they dont know how to use a computer. they're just not as obsessed as we are!
11I am sure he knows how to turn on a computer, I think he means he doesn't spend much time on one. With his busy career and family life, I can understand!
12I know lots of people who consider themselves computer illiterate but can manage to download their cameras and send email. Maybe browse a little, but that's barely scratching the surface of what a computer can do. Seems about ten years ago I read that Brad was using eBay to find antiques for his house, but that doesn't require much computer know how.
To put it in context, I know execs at companies who can't do much more than email, read spreadsheets, and fill out expense reports online, sometimes needing their assistant's help.
13I'm pretty sure Brad Pitt lies about most everything that comes out of his yucky lips. LMAO
14I can understand why some celebrities say they don't know how to use a computer. I think when Brad made that comment, he was probably saying it in that half-joking kind of way, as in, "I don't really spend much time on the computer" and not literally that he doesn't know how to "operate" one. It's kind of difficult to know the full extent of a comment without actually hearing how someone says it.
Anyway-- that's my input.
15it's like Hansel&Zoolander trying to get the files which are IN THE COMPUTER
16i can understand why some celebrities say this. i only use my computer for this website, school and sometimes msn. thats it.
i don't have facebook, don't have myspace, i just don't get it. i'm behind!
thats just me
17I can see that. Most are afraid of personal files getting out or being hacked. They may not feel its safe. They also spend a great deal of their lives, un-like us poor folks, out living and doing things. They have better entertainment than websites like Youtube. They can actually go and do stuff. LOL So its very believable.
18Papaver-- They're...IN the COMPUTER?
19Who cares?
20Frankly that's their business. I don't understand why I would get all worked up because Brad Pitt said he doesn't know how to use a computer.
21It's just annoying when celebs say things like this to perpetuate a PR persona. And if their child is looking up weapons and war and such online and they aren't technologically able to monitor them, he's the worst parent ever. That's why I think he's full of sh*t. If he truly were computer illiterate, I wouldn't get all worked up (and I really don't think anyone has so far), I'd just think he's a moron.
22it is lame when anyone says that they can't use a computer!
23one choses not to learn how to use a computer
yes it's VERY lame since we all know that it 's bogus. like the same thing about how people are like 'i don't read the tabloids either' come on!!!
24Yeah ......I definitely smell bullsh*t.
But I don't think it's lame if some celebs say they can't use one and they're actually telling the truth.
25To be honest, Brad never sounds all that smart in his interviews, so maybe it's true. I'm sure Maddox has enough technological smarts for both of them, though. He'll be driving them all around before long.
26Lame. Why do they have BlackBerrys then? I'm sure they at least access the internet from their phones.
27I think the only people that can actually get away with saying they don't 'Know how' to use a computer are those that didn't grow up when computers were widely used. When I was in school they were only JUST making their big debut. MY kids already know a TON more than I do, but believe me I learned fast. However, my parents and grandparents have very little knowledge.
I guess what I'm saying that with Brad being the age he is, he wasn't raised in a time when computers were relevant and highly used, so he learned to function well without them. He has probably never seen the need to learn.
That said, I'll bet you dollars to donuts that if someone asked him to "email that to me" he'd know exactly what to do. His knowledge may not be extensive, but the man isn't a moron. Or maybe he is.
28It's strange because 1: they can afford it and 2: because they have kids (Brad and Angelina) and your kids usually get you into all that stuff. But I guess GT99 is right, celebs have assistants to do things for them
29Agree with first post - celebs have their handlers to do press stuff for them. I once worked as a PA for a very successful businessman - he wasn't a celebrity by any means, but very rich, and it was my job to do the googling and report any news worthy information. As for Brad not knowing how to work a computer, I take it as another way of him saying "I don't bother with the gossip blogs because I don't care". Who really knows but him .... but since he's been an A lister for close to two decades, does he really have to?
30my moms the same age as brad pitt and she too doesnt know how to use the computer
31she forgets how to turn it on and off all the time and is amazed at what google can do lol
They sound so ignorant saying that to the media. They walk around with Blackberrys in their hands 24/7. They know good and well that they know how to use the Internet, especially if they have children.
They're just trying to make it seem as if they don't look themselves up to find the lastest true or false news on them. Celebrities lie out of their behinds so much. That's one main reasons why the media attacks them constantly....because they don't know how to be real, even with themselves.
32The real question is why is Mickey writing a tell all-book. Hasn't he been her bodyguard for years, wtf happened??
33do you guys really think they have time to hang out on the internet? a lot of people don't ever really use a computer. they don't need to.
34Why do celebs think it's "uncool" to use a computer? Hello! It's not 1985 and doesn't make you a nerd to know how to use a one. Get over yourselves.
35OMG please. I'm the same age as Pitt is and we took computer classes in high school. NO the internet wasn't in use, but computers..YES. My mother has worked in computers since 1972...so I find it funny that people say they weren't around when Pitt was in school..NOT TRUE. Angelina is also a liar, since in an interview she gave when she was with Billy Bob, that one of her favorite past times was "looking for ancient cutlery online" I find that a long shot from not even knowing how to turn a computer on.
36Anything she or he says I take with a grain of salt..they say whatever image they are wanting to portray at the time and NOT was is nessesarily the truth.
I work in a nursing home and many of our residents in their 60's and 70's regularly use the computer in the resident computer room.. I find it hilarious that people think a 45 yr old "doesn't know how" to use a computer because of their age. That is ridiculous since almost everything is associated with computers now a days. Pitt even said he keeps in contact with his siblings through email when they are too busy to phone each other..so what gives? Does he forget the stories he tells. He should learn to kept them straight if he expects people to believe him.
37It doesn't just seem lame, it seems like a lie. Just like when Angelina & Paris say they've only been with 2-3 men.
38It sounds pretty pathetic. Ignorance is bliss I guess.
39I believe if they cannot do stuff like Excel or Adobe whatever. But cut me the crap if they mean they dont know how to surf the net, stuff like that.
Denise Richards is another one who checks herself out on the net, and prints them out too
40I don't know if I believe most celebrities when they say that stuff... Though, my parents (both in their early fifties) don't know how to really use a computer. My dad's better than my mom though; she struggles with the basics even. They never really had any real opportunity to learn back in the old country (they are trying, though).
41I'm 33 years old and I had computer science at school (if we had that back then in Argentina, I'm pretty sure Brad had it in the States). So if he can't operate a computer does that mean he didn't go to school? Please! That's like saying you can't operate a telephone!
42Brad Angelina and Jennifer Aniston?
Is he contagious?
43when anyone says they dont know how to use a computer its lame lol
44Considering all the fuss about a certain presidential candidate not being able to use a computer, I think it's exceedingly lame.
45I believe Brad.
46I know people that don't use a PC. My co-worker don't own a cell phone. My brother just got a cell phone and a PC for the first time last year. He always call me and ask question about the PC. His kids help him operate the cell. Every body don't jump in technology. People still believe cell phones and microwaves ovens cause cancer.
I always find it very odd when people don't know how to even use a computer - probably because most of my job is spent on one
47Brad Pitt is overrated anyway. I love Downey however.
48I definitely think so - my grandfather can use a computer, and he is in his 80s! today everyone is learning how, and its rare to find many people who have good jobs and are economically well-off that cannot operate a computer.
49LAME!! And I think claiming you don't know how to work a computer in this day and age is a bit phoney - how can you not know unless you live under a rock?!
