On Monday, a fairly unflattering set of photos of Jessica Simpson hit the Internet setting off a ton of unkind headlines mostly centered around her weight. While most of you agreed that her jeans were the biggest culprit and there's nothing wrong with a few curves, hopefully Jessica has stayed away. Her sister, on the other hand, hasn't and she took to her blog to write about how angry it makes her. Since Jessica seems happier than ever with Tony, maybe acknowledging the haters will only make it worse. Ashlee wrote:

Since when did a woman's weight become newsworthy...
I am completely disgusted by the headlines concerning my sister's weight. A week after the inauguration and with such a feeling of hope in the air for our country, I find it completely embarrassing and belittling to all women to read about a woman's weight or figure as a headline on Fox News.
All women come in different shapes, sizes, and forms and just because you're a celebrity, there shouldn't be a different standard. Is this something you would say to your wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, or even a friend? I seriously doubt it. How can we expect teenage girls to love and respect themselves in an environment where we criticize a size 2 figure? Now can we focus on the things that really matter.
So tell us — do you agree with Ashlee about Jessica's weight debate?

Good for her. The pics were unflattering, but it's ridiculous how much attention something like that gets.
1That's probably the most intelligent thing I've ever heard Ashlee say (slightly j/k...please, no fans kill me). Good for her.
2I agree 150% with what she is saying, but i think that by acknowledging it, she is giving the whole thing even more attention, more than it deserves. its incredible how much press it has gotten. Yes, she got chubbier, but really who cares???
3Sweet of her sis to want to stick up for her, but i think she did moe harm than good really. she added to the coverage
I would be happy to have Jessica's body! Good for Ashley.
4I saw the pics, and I saw more than curves, I saw rolls around her mid-section - that is not healthy or attractive.
5I agree with her.
It's funny to me that she calls out Fox News specifically.
6Jessica is by no means a Size 2. If she's going to get on her soapbox, then she should stop insulting our intelligence by claiming her sister is a size 2.
7I'm Absolutly agree! Jess looks fantastic with her lovely curves.
8I agree with what Ashley said totally. But at the same time Ashley did have some surgery on her nasal region...so it does seem that she is being very hypocritical. I love that she is defending her sis but I mean she should first take her own good advice.
9please stop posting on these sisters they are not talented pretty or smart, their music sucks jessicas acting is horrific and ashlee's face is plastic
10I understand her argument about respecting the fact that women come in different shapes, sizes, colors etc but who is she talk about young teenage girls respecting and loving themselves when she and her sister have both altered their appearances (nose job and lip injections respectively)... where's the logic in her argument??!! TOTALLY BAFFLING
and maggieg86- I saw more than curves too.. for her height (im near her height actually) that weight is NOT at all healthy and the way that she yo-yos she is doing as much damage to her heart and other organs as someone who is anorexic/ed. She was so proud of the body she had back in her Daisy Duke days flaunting it and going on about how much she worked out with Gunner Peterson and blah blah blah. She falls to other end of the weight spectrum and now we're supposed to believe this is the way she's intended to be?? BULLSHIZ... She should eat as healthy as possible, work out regularly and keep her pie hole shut (about both weight and her lame BF).
Sorry for the rant but I never did/never will understand the appeal of the Simpsons.. pretty talentless if you ask me
11Whatever, Jess is not fat by any stretch of the imagination and I am happy that Ashley stood by her side.
12I would agree with her if she wasn't in show business...unfortunately the business she is in is a business where image is everything, consequently , it becomes the law of supply and demand. We expect perfection because unfortunately it is the way "Hollywood" has set their standards
I am pretty sure most of you agreeing with her comments were previously commenting negatively to Jessica's pics.
My advise to both of them? If you can't keep up with the demand then choose another business or stop being so sensitive to comments
13Maggie, skin wrinkles. Get over it. Jessica is not fat by any stretch of the imagination. She might have gained a few pounds, but that probably means she is at a "normal" weight and not underweight.
I think it has been terrible what I have read about Jess the past few days. I am not a fan of hers, but this is just absurd. I think far too many women have issues about themselves, and deal with it by bashing the bodies of others. Seriously, what does it matter what shape other people are in? I just can't believe people care so much to be catty.
14maggie, get a life. there were no rolls. she's not fat or unhealthy.
15JESSICA is not fat, she looks like a woman not a skeleton in clothes. The media are to blame for teenagers starving themselves to look like skeletons which I think is repulsive, and for anorexia.
16Until you all live by the rules you are prescribing for these girls, I think you should all just hush up.
17Molly, are you ok? Those sentences you've posted don't all make sense...
I think she is beautiful, it wasn't the best decision on that outfit, but so what?
18It's not the weight that I noticed, she looks totally fine! It's the outfit that's unbelievably unflattering, nobody should wear that.
19"Jessica is by no means a Size 2. If she's going to get on her soapbox, then she should stop insulting our intelligence by claiming her sister is a size 2. "
I don't think she necessarily meant her sister. I think she meant in general. We've all heard of models and slender actresses get criticized.
20"It's funny to me that she calls out Fox News specifically." Exactly what i was thinking, I saw this report on MANY news stations.
21I don't care if she gained weight. She is happy in her relationship and that tends to happen. Now with that said she is NOT a size 2. What is up with these celebs insisting they are a size 2?
Secondly, I think that she is fair game to these reports. She brought weight into the picture. She was so happy to flaunt her body when she was thin, but expects it to go unnoticed when she puts on 20 pounds?
I think it is cool that Ashley defended he, but some of the angles she took it were way off the mark.
More than her body, I see the weight in her face.
22No — It's nice she defends her sister, but she isn't the poster child of loving yourself.
23.......................................................
this is ridiculous. how can you imply that??? this is the worst poll ever. just because she had a nose job doesn't mean she doesn't love herself. this is horrible. i am left speechless...almost all your polls are a disaster!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with everything Ashlee is saying here. But for a girl who went on a national campaign telling young girls to love themselves the way they were and then turned around two months later and got a nose job, I think she is kind of a hypocrite.
And cut the cr*p Ashlee, we know a size two when we see it.
24According to several other sites, this whole weight gain is yet another ploy by her pervert father to attract attention to his disgusting brood....now that Ashley has popped her kid out and no one cared he has realized (via Jennifer Love Hewitt's example) that weight gain and its subsequent loss is big news....watch for him to have sold the rites to her story shortly. Ashley commenting on it, is one more way for it (and the whole media wh*re family) to stay in the headlines.
25I can't stand either one of them. You can't be a dirty media wh*re one minute, then cry to be left alone the next. It all goes hand in hand in the world you chose to work in. Get over it.
26on one hand i agree that so much should not be made over her weight gain. she prob still is considered a normal weight for her size and that outfit prob made it look worse than it is anyways- so its nice that ashlee stuck up for her. but on the other hand i do agree that i was like is ashlee for real talking about accepting oneself when she already had all that plastic surgery
27Obesity is a FAR bigger problem in this country than anorexia, causes countless haelth problems and places huge burdens on the health care system. In the backlash against media stereotypes, being overweight (and when you have rolls around your midesection, that is fat, not wrinkling skin) is now somehow "normal". Maybe some of us want to believe it is normal because according to stats most Americans are moderately to significantly overweight so we see it every day (just not in Hollywood that often). But sorry, being overweight is not "normal" or "curvy" or healthy.
Jessica has a bodytype that has a propensity to put on weight, and she is an emotional eater. It'll get worse after she has kids. She needs to watch what she eats (Southern fried food doesn't help) and keep exercising.
28Ashlee's had a nose job for God's sake! Luv your shnoz Ashlee. Not to mention that she's already hyper sensitive about her own post baby weight...
29Well im not trying to be PC , she has put on a ton of weight. Im sorry but people take notice when someone who normally runs around flaunting there body and then all of a sudden they walk out somewhere lookin like they bathed in crisco people are going to talk. Plain and simple. This family has done everything they can to stay in the media and the way Jessica has put herself out there- in every way possible- everyone is going to comment. And rightfully so, with good press theres going to be bad press and when you make your life an open book you deserve the judgement.
30I agree that it shouldn't have been on the news, and was disappointed in Fox news for airing that segment, However, she can't point her finger at Fox News as many other leftist news media covered the story as well.
31i think Jessica got so much negative attention was not so much the weight that she gained but more about what she was wearing. I for one, don't have a problem with a little bit of extra cushion but what she had on did not flatter her at all. Its one thing to gain a few extra pounds its another to gain extra pounds and wear something that doesn't flatter your new body. Thats when you get in trouble.
32Those comments at the end of the "Yes" and "No" answers are very ignorant and take away credibility from this site.
33Wow, I am really surprised by a lot of these comments. I think it was nice of Ashlee to stick up for her sister...also, I think that if Jess put on some weight it's not news-worthy. And I don't really think that it should be a topic of discussion at all. It's a personal thing. How would any of you like it if there were countless internet forums debating you and your weight gain? It doesn't matter if someone is in the public eye, no one deserves that kind of treatment.
I don't know, I'm not a huge fan of the Simpsons, but I'm just really upset to see everyone getting so critical of their personal decisions about what they decide to do (or not do) to their appearances.
34Jessica is getting pretty thick, there were more than a few extra curves, she had fat rolls hanging out by her pits!! And really, where does Ashlee come off criticising anyone for being superficial, she herself has gotten cosmetic surgery done, what kind of messege does that send to young girls about loving yourself and your body when you take a scapel to your nose, and chin, and oh yeah, Jess has gotten lip injections too! What a effing hypocrite, I'm sorry, im not normally this abrasive, but these girls are talentless and love the limelight, up until all the attention isnt for a good thing. And really, who is she kidding throwing out that Jess is a size 2?? Next time wear something more flattering and she wouldnt have this problem again.
35I agree with Ashlee.
36The whole point of my comment was dont wh*re yourself out to the public then complain when it comes back and bites you in the butt.... its called karma
37The problem is young girls and women see a picture of someone who is not fat being called fat and other unflattering terms and they start judging themselves with the same ridiculous standard. If you are bigger than she is, which is probably a lot of women, you may start to feel bad about yourself and your appearance and are more likely to engage in unhealthy behaviors and beat yourself up emotionally. It is sad that this is newsworthy and it is sad that women are so critical of one another.
38UGH, some people are so ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
J Simp looks DAMN GOOD! I like seeing celebrities with HEALTHY weight on there! It's so much better than the ghostly stick thin girls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
39she does look fantastic...she's a beautiful woman..and i commend ashlee for defending her sister..it's only a natural reaction when someone speaks negatively about someone you love
the only problem I have with ashlee speaking out is that she is being quite hypocritical..im pretty sure she got rhinoplasty, and jessica has publicly said that she tried restalyne injections to make her lips fuller..how can you take ashlee seriously when she herself is setting an example to not love or respect yourself enough to be happy with what you're born with...she's resorted to plastic surgery and so has her sister...so what kind of example is that for teenage girls??
40she does look fantastic...she's a beautiful woman..and i commend ashlee for defending her sister..it's only a natural reaction when someone speaks negatively about someone you love

41she is not a size but nor is she unhealthy like some posters said.everyone yoyos with their weight so get over it and unless you are a doctor you don't really have a right to say what's healthy and what's not. Anyway if i had jessica's body i'd be delighted women have curves and we should enjoy them instead of eating lettuce and counting calories and doing stupid poses on a mat.
42Where did you study medicine, Maggie?
43I'm a healthy weight for my height/age based on BMI and according to my physician. I exercise on a regular basis and watch my diet. AND I do not have a flat stomach.
I saw video of Jess from back in the Dukes of Hazzard days and she looked ill to me. I think it's great to workout and eat well, but that was obviously not a lifestyle that she could maintain. I believe being happy about yourself and your life is as critical to your overall health as is your weight.
so i'm kind of amazed at some of the comments here. we should be supportive of each other as women not putting each other down. yes jessica has gained some weight but those photos and definitely that hideous outfit did her no justice BUT that being said it does not justify how she was ridiculed in the media. yes ashlee and jessica have had plastic surgery but honestly if you had the money wouldn't you change things about yourself if you could? i know i would! i think the only thing that jessica should have been made fun of is those stupid pants ~ her weight while higher than normal ~ is healthy and she looks beautiful. kudos to ashlee for sticking up for her sister. and shame on us for judging so harshly.
44Oh, but I do agree that if you're famous for the sake of being famous (it's not because of her vocal skills), you can't then complain about how the media who made you rich chooses to portray you
45I agree with the message but I don't think it was up to her to comment (it will only cause more of a buzz about Jessica's weight).
But I also agree with those who point out the hypocrisy of a message like this coming from someone who's had plastic surgery for purely aesthetic reasons.
46My biggest pet peeve about this website is how whenever there is any discussion of weight all the posters go crazy about how so and so looks lovely and she is a normal human being, normal size etc etc, even when they are clearly FAT. These people are celebrities!! They are being paid millions to look good. That is their JOB! I feel no sympathy whatsoever for them getting called out when they look like crap. If they don't like it, then get out of the business. And especially the simpson clan!! I mean hello, the only thing those girls have ever had going for them is trying to look good. Bottomline, I have no interest in looking at pics about fat celebrities.
47I don't think choosing to have plastic surgery makes you a hypocrite. It's one thing to change something about yourself that you chose to do and it's another for someone else to tell you there is something wrong with you...especially when you really are a healthy size. What is Jessica, like a 6-8? That's not fat and that isn't the message we should be sending to young girls.
48i said 'no'. i like that she defended her sister, and i think that it was a HORRIBLE angle vs jessica gaining THAT much weight - especially since we JUST saw pictures of her and tony in the airport and she looked decent...but i don't think that she's really in a position to be all preachy about things. i don't know.
49Jessica Simpson has created a career lacking any artistic merit and focused entirely on her looks, "style" and personal life.
50When her music and movies are god-awful humiliating failures that no one pays attention to, she should feel lucky that anyone even cares/enjoys the fact that she's put on weight.
She's an untalented hick that should marry a Dallas Cowboy and just be happy, rich, hefty and away from the spotlight for the rest of her life!
