We've been hearing stories all week about David Beckham trying to extend his stay in Milan, and now he's even more adamant about leaving the LA Galaxy. Today he reiterated how much he wants to stay overseas, saying, "At the moment, Milan is more important than money. I want to think about football before everything else. I said in a clear manner what I think, I want to stay at Milan because I’ve rediscovered myself as a football player." At this point Beckham sounds bit disrespectful to his old team and the league that gave him so much money to come to the States. So tell us — are his statements starting to turn you off?

Well, first of all, let me state that I don't like Posh/Becks at all. I think they're way to full of themselves and pretty much vain people. That being said, I've seen Beckham play football (yes, that's the correct term...
) and he's very good. Football is the most popular
sport in Europe, with millions of people following it every week, and lots of good teams and good championships.
Now, from a professional perspective, I understand completely his decision to play with Milan AC (one of the best team in the Italian football league) than to stay in the US where - I'm sorry for saying it - nobody cares and there aren't any challenges for him. Yet, he's made a commitment to the LA Galaxy and it should only be fair to give them the opportunity to talk it out privately instead of spilling everything to the media first.
The gist is : he should never have moved to the US in the first place (it's like if your baseball players moved to Europe, that wouldn't make any sense !). And I blame Posh for this.
1I don't know a single person who follows US soccer so I can appreciate that he'd rather play in Milan.
Football = NFL.
21st of all..LOL @ Tulipe! I like you!!
However I am a fan of Becks and Posh!
He is a WONDERFUL FOOTBALL PLAYER and well I've loved her pout since the spice girl days. I just don't know I dig them.
I AM SUPER disappointed by Beck's Comments and even more sad to see him leave us here in LA I've enjoyed being able to travel just a few short miles and see him play!
I do also understand that we are lacking the FOOTBALL LOVE here in the states so I also can understand why he would want to go to the FABULOUS AC MILAN!! I would just be nice if he'd at least play out the season here which is according to my ticket set for a LA GALAXY home opener March 22 :/
LOL....I don't blame Posh for this one, I think Becks thought he could spark the football love here!
3I have been a Beckham fan since he played for Manchester United and I couldn't be more thrilled to see him leave the United States, for a footballer this place is a joke and he is doing amazing at Milan. Good on you Becks!!
4There's certainly much to criticize about Becks here. However, I think his ambitions about making a difference here in the MLS were genuine (I saw him talk a/b it in a 2004 interview when he had just been at Madrid a year), but the Galaxy have been horrible managed and can't get their feet off the ground w/ the Beckham/Donovan's salaries + the salary cap. Being stuck on a completely uncompetitive team is going to do nothing to help him w/ his World Cup 2010 dream, and that looks like what this is all about. He loves playing for England, and it looked like that was over before he moved to the US.
Professionally, I think Milan is the best choice for him no doubt. Athletes have fairly short careers, he should perform with the best while he can. Personally, I think this will plague him a while.. he's never been one to let fans down. Hopefully he doesn't ignore the criticism.
5He has a point. With the Galaxy, he didn't play much. And as are AC Milan one of the best teams in the world, and he's playing regularly, he should stay. The probelms is : Victoria and the kids.
6I understand that soccer here is not a big thing as it is in Europe and that is better to play in Europe but the Galaxy offered him a very big opportunity and he should not be as rude to them as he is being, in the other hand I can't stand both of them so I'm looking froward for them to leave they are very obnoxious.
7i admire that he isn't following the money.
he was playing for the suckiest team in the States. so what do you expect.
Galaxy just wanted him to sell tickets and tee shirts. they got their money's worth.
move on. it's not that deep people!
8I think this sort of thing happens all the time with football transfers. There was a big saga last year with Ronaldo wanting to move from United to Real Madrid. Beckham must be hating playing in the States because the level of play isn't as high as he's used to. It doesn't surprise me at all.
9I'm not turned off but this is very out of character for him, he's trying to force the Galaxy's hand by being so vocal.
The deal was never about soccer, it was just about his commercial appeal and now he obviously wants to play real football again. I wonder how the split will affect his relationship with AEG who also back his academies.
Oh and the Galaxy made more money off him than they paid him, most of the money came from his own endorsements and a cut of the merchandise.
10it's true, this is not that deep, and it's only here in pop because of the crazy obssesion with beckham, not because of football or his career, so yeah move on, it's not like you care about the teams, you only care that if beckham moves to milan that would mean no more fun with posh and becks in l.a ..
11No, I can totally understand why he wants to play for Milan. No offense, but the States isn't really the place for pro football.
12who cares?
13I agree with AprilGabie. This happens in football (soccer) ALL THE TIME and it's absolutely understandable. It's always about money and football, there's no question to it and there's no point in analyzing it.
14What I think is ridiculous is the fact that it's being discussed here.. come on, are you serious?!
This guy's a douche weed. Can we please never talk about him or his shopaholic wife ever again?
That said, hey, his true passion is his sport. Let him go to Italy. See ya Becks!
15lol Tulipe why exactly are you blaming Posh? David chose LA because he will never play for any English team that isn't his precious Manchester United.
16i love becks and i always will but i think that he has to remember that he was ON TOP in the UK for a while and then there were others that were amazing so he kind of lost his luster and went to play for real madrid, and then still plays for the UK national team, and got a break in the US....and well maybe it's not as big of a sport here, but still....it's something. now that he's seeing success in Milan, it's like he wants to just pick up and leave. i hope that it all works out ...but i guess we're just seeing that he's a footballer through and through
17i dont want to sound rude, but i think that if americans really understood football soccer, they wouldn't be making this big fuzz about the transfer, this happens alllll theeee timeeee in football. it's no big deal.
18well actually this is not that usal, I mean playing with another team when your contract is not over, and I think this is kinda disrespectful. He should think about this before signing whit LA Galaxy, I totally understand him when everybody said that he was over, with all the problems with the "galactics" in the Real Madrid (best team ever btw,;D) I know the club and the coach didnt treat him good, so he signed whit Galaxy, but I think he just rushed,he should have waited til the end of the season, cuz the coach gave him another chace and he proved he was the best and he really helped us to win the liga that season, and I am sure the club wanted him to stay, WE did becks!!
19So I think it´s perfect he wants to come back to the top of the football and play in one of the best football team like Milan, and I will love it if he plays in the Champions again!! that would be great!! But he should wait or the clubs should have an agrement. have they?? because I cant understand how a player can play in a team when he still belongs to another..things like that dont happend in Europe.
There was really the presumption at one time that David Beckham was going to come here and single-handedly make soccer as popular as the NFL in the US. Obviously that didn't happen. And there's an awful lot of gossip about both Beckhams being less than thrilled that they didn't achieve the kind of celebrity popularity and adulation they hoped. Posh is still stinging about the reality show deal.
All this supposed controvery about Madrid is just a simple smoke shield--> a way for them to go without making it seem they're leaving with tails between their legs in defeat.
20I don't believe Beckham cares more about football than money. His and Posh's ego are bruised from the less than enthusiastic response in the US, so they are willing to drag their kids to another country to start over.
He spent much of his time on the injured list. What about all the people who bought season tix when it was announced he was coming and didn't get to see him play?
21pss, it actually does happen. He's playing in Milan on loan right now (something that happens a lot in European football), which means the Galaxy is already getting money for him. They did the same thing with Landon Donovan, who they loaned out to Bayern Munich. Btw, Donovan has also said he'd like to stay in Munich, I don't see him being criticized for this though...
22Sorry to say this this, but if Beckham truly LOVES soccer & is tired of the Hollywood "celebrity" life, he has NO CHOICE but to go BACK to a European team. Americans have wrestling, boxing, football, baseball, basketball, even the Indy 500; they understand & appreciate these games more than they will ever take to soccer. I don't know why that is... it just is. I highly doubt that Americans "get" rugby, cricket, etc. - They might somewhat like "Aussie Rules Football" more than rugby/soccer...
23-
David Beckham is without doubt one of the best players since Pele because of moves he made his own & breathed new life into Manchester United when he debuted in 1992, at the age of 17. Like or hate him, believe him the worst player ever, the truth is clear - he's best at his game when playing for Manchester United, Madrid or Milan & NOT for L.A.
@ azucar_ame : thanks !
@ vlada : I blame Posh because I tend to make her responsible for everything which happens on this planet (well, the northern hemisphere at least, the southern is Ms Paris Hilton's responsibility)...
24LA is only for rich celebs.Europe is where he realy belongs.where he can realy play!
25Why they gave him so much $$$ I have no idea. No one in America cares about soccer, unless you are about 6 years old...Seriously. I understand they are trying to make it another big sport like footballs & baseball for another revenue stream (I used to work for Nike) buuuut...the US isn't ready for it.
26Awww, the expensive show pony wants to be a race horse again!
It's pity he didn't give so much thought to his legacy as a player when he decided to abandon his credibility and take the big bucks to play amongst third rate players in the US. Every pundit going slammed him for that move at the time saying he would be better off finishing out his career gracefully in Europe, but of course Mr and Mrs Superstar had to go for the money and the spotlight instead.
I hope Galaxy lock him into his contract and refuse to let him
transfer!
27Mädchen you´re right that happens very often, I was confused cuz when a club "borrows" a player for a while it use to be for half of the season or whole season, not just 3 moths, it is kinda of stupid pay in january for a player who cant stay til the end of this season cuz he should come back to LA in March.. I know this can happen, but it is weird right??
28Yes, it's unusual, but that's just because the MLS season runs from March to November, not from August to May like most European leagues.
29That doesn't turn me off at all..the fact that he basically says that staying where he's happy is more important than the money is pretty cool.
30Yeah Mädchen but it is Milan which is paying for not having him until May, so if he wants to stay in Milan and Milan wants him to stay then clubs must have an agreement, and Galaxy said beckham´s a high pric, so what if Milan doesnt want to pay so much? It´s awkward coming back to a team in which you said you didt want to play. Anyway I think is awesome that he stays in Milan but players should think a lot what is going to happen in his future before to sign a contract.
31Yes, but Milan knew that beforehand. Apparently, they were fine with getting him on loan until March, so they can hardly complain.
32I agree that Beckham probably shouldn't have been that vocal about it though, simply because, as you said, it makes things awkward, if the deal doesn't work out. That's nothing new either though, just remember Ronaldo and that whole Real Madrid saga.
Yes that´s nothing new but that doent make it a good thing. I know how you feel when your player says that he doesnt want to stay in the team in the middle of the season, and sadly that happen very often...It was what happened with Beckham in Madrid too.
33What Ronaldo did you mean??Cristiano or "fat" Ronaldpo??cuz it was a saga with both...
pss, it was Cristiano Ronaldo
34"Awww, the expensive show pony wants to be a race horse again!"
I think what Posh and David care the most (besides their kids) is to be "famous".
35Part of being a professional athlete is being professional, which David is not being. I still think he's a hottie, but he's dropping down in the ranks for me.
36i agree with "crazyana" .. soccer its a sport for europeans and latinamericans... and hollywood crap its not for people like david...
DAVID BECKHAM IS A REAL ATHLETE...
and all you americans return to your stupid crap of NFL and hollywood SH*T..
37Hell no! He has his reasons! IMO he already reached his top game when he was at Manchester United and won the Champions League and all that stuff, but I totally understand the fact he wants to be in a REAL football team as Milan AC that competes in REAL and competitive leagues, not that joke of league that the US has.
38NFL = Fat men playing wiht a "ball" on their HANDS..
and i dont even know why they copy the name Football if they used their hands the 90% of the whole game..
39then again i wonder why American Football NFL its played just in America, when SOCCER its played WORLD WIDE , having a WORLD CUP TOURNAMENT...
CAUSE SOCCER RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULES... BEST SPORT EVER..
40"I want to think about football before anything else"
It's a shame he was only thinking about fame and his wallet when he transfered to LA Galaxy. I hope he's stuck there!
