This whole situation is so terrible. Whatever she did, whether she was hitting him or not, he should have just walked away because there's always a double standard when it comes to men and women. Men can sleep with 100 girls and still get idolized for it. A woman can sleep with 100 men and she's labeled a hoochie. A man can't hit a woman but a woman can hit a man. He should have known continuously hitting her would put him in the hot seat. He didn't need to let it get that far because even if she did hit him...it doesn't really matter because majority firmly believes that you shouldn't beat down a woman - especially one that's smaller than him.

Yes chris is an ass for hitting her but Riri is also a fool, sorry but it makes me sooooo mad, for staying with him if he hit her before. Good lord i expected more from her, enough that she would never stay with an abusive person. Jay-Z needs to shut up there isn't anyone afraid of him and this story just needs to be cleared because it makes less and less sense

Is it just me or are the photos from the night before the grammys telling a story about their relationship. in all the photos i've seen he looks very uncomfortable whereas it seems she's trying to be affectionate. He just looks so mad that it's not surprising this incident occurred, something was already up before the so called text

Abusive relationships are very hard to break because it doesn't start with violent beatings at first, the abused partner loses self-confidence as the abusing partner starts making derogative remarks, then humiliates, then insults, then he (more rarely she) is violent but not against the partner, against furniture for example, then slaps, and in the end he's violent against the woman. My English is not good enough to describe the process well, but it graduates slowly and when you are abused you think you are responsible for the outbursts of your companion.
So of course I'm not surprised it was not the first time Chris had attacked her.
And women should gain confidence and leave at the first hit. And stand up to help those who can't instead of badmouthing them.

Problem is abused women stay in the cycle of abuse, i wouldn't be surprised if she takes him back,as pathetic as that may be.

pls lets raise our little girls to know when to walk away...I can't imagine staying with someone who hit me...my mom would probably beat the s*** outta me for being that naiive or trained...can't think of the word

This entire situation is very sad. And while there is no reason for any man to hit a woman (and vice versa), Chris Brown is a young man that needs all the support that he can get at the moment. He needs help, not celebrities supporting and then reneging, or expressing anger towards him. It's apparent that he's seen enough violence in his life that has led him to deal with anger in such ways. It's just sad.

Really sad story. I feel that there is much more to the story then what she says though.
I hope he comes out and says something...anything.

Chris Brown may have gotten lucky because the charge he was booked on is kinda weak, law enforcement sources tell TMZ. But he's still in big trouble, and Rihanna says it's not the first time he's attacked her.

Sources say the Los Angeles County District Attorney kicked the case back to the police for further investigation because evidence that he made criminal threats against Rihanna is kind of thin. Our sources are quick to say he will, however, almost certainly be charged with felony domestic battery, a lesser offense but still serious.

Here's how it went down, according to the police report. After Chris received a text message from a woman who wrote about getting together, an argument erupted. By the way, initially, Rihanna would not tell cops what started the argument.

She did, however, tell them that during the argument, he started hitting her. According to the police report, she ordered him to drive her home and "faked a call" to someone, saying things like, "He's dropping me off. Make sure the cops are there."

Rihanna told cops the fake call enraged Brown. He said something to the effect of "You are really fu**ed up now. I'm going to kill you." This statement is the basis of the criminal threats charge.

At that point, according to the report, Brown allegedly began a violent attack with his fists. At some point, Rihanna took the keys out of the ignition and threw them outside.

And there's this. According to the police report, she told cops this was not the first time Brown hit her. She referred to it as an ongoing and escalating abusive relationship.

We're told the criminal threats charge is based on that one statement Brown allegedly made. As one law enforcement source told us, "It's kinda weak, and the D.A. is not going to prosecute a high profile case like this unless it's solid." That's why it was kicked back for further investigation.

Given the brutal nature of the attack, which the photos clearly show -- contusions on the face, swollen eyes, cut lip, bloody nose, bite marks on fingers and arm -- a felony domestic battery charge is virtually a done deal. That, however, is a less serious offense than making criminal threats.

it's a sad situation. and there are so many different allegations, i wonder which hold any truth? i remember seeing a pic of rihanna with a cold sore a few mths back. i wonder if it has to do with the herpes thing...
regardless, he should have never touched her, regardless of if she started it. it just saddens me.

There is no excuse for what he did. People need to stop trying to find little ways to justify him beating her. I don't care if she had herpes, threw his key out the car, dissed his momma, put sugar in his gas tank or most likely did nothing at all. He had no right to hit her. Also, the fact that he's done it before does not justify it either. Abuse happens in a cycle, because most women dont know what they would do if they were actually abused and are in denial when they are in an abusive relationship.

I'm so tired of people saying they can't believe he did it. You don't know him! And from personal experience, the worst abusers have the shiniest veneer. How do you think they convince women to be with them in the first place. The only time that you can tell that a relationship is abusive is when their are bruises to show. Mostly abusers are funny and charming on the outside, and monsters at home.

UGH ignorance!!! Rihanna's cold sore is unrelated to herpes! There are tons of people with cold sores who do NOT have herpes - duh! It's a completely different strain of the virus!

And anyway, SO WHAT if she did have herpes? is that any reason to strangle your girlfriend and leave her unconscious?

There has never been a moment when I haven't thought Rihanna and Chris were a trainwreck waiting to happen. I haven't ever seen a moment where I could honestly see the obvious affection she had for him was also how he felt about her. He's a 18-19 yrld momma's boy who hasn't hid the fact that he's open to all comer. Usher? same pedigree but grew up. Chris? A child who Rihanna unfortunately felt like many girls do, that they can change a boy, or "make" the guy love them. No one has any business putting their hands on anyone for any other reason than self defense, and even then, as in this case (from what I'm told), if your life isn't being threatend and you know you're the stronger more powerful one, then you need to walk away, run away, hell, even call 911 yourself "man or woman." Chris apparently hasn't confronted his rage and apparently no one has thought it important to strongly suggest that he do so and now his career is probably all but destroyed. Its massively jacked up to me that his family. friends and business handlers and most importantly Rihanna didn't take it all serious before they had no choice to. JMHO

And for the people saying she should have gotten out at first hit, should have known better, etc. Let me tell you from personal experience: It's amazing how quickly this kind of violence can escalate, and even the strongest woman can get pulled into giving it 'one more shot'. It sucks, it's horrible, but it's true.

Like many of you, I just hope this is enough for her to see that she's worth more than this. Everyone has a different 'rock bottom', let's just hope this is as far as Rihanna's goes...

wow - that's really sad to think that this was an on-going thing, but at least it's come out in the open, and hopefully if he does have a violent past, that he'll do something about it. i was watching an interview w/ his family and they said that he's got a past that has a bit of anger management issues. i think that it's nice that so many celebs are really pulling for rhi and i hope that some how it all works out for her...she deserves better,and it seems like chris really needs help.

um, cold sores are herpes. never said anything about a std, its strand 1 of the virus. and even though it's not a std, cold sores on your mouth are transferable to others.

I think that it is a sad that something like this would happen. Chris doesnt seem like the kind that would beat someone but he is still young and this could be the start of his attacks. no offense.
