Jessica and Nick have finally come to an agreement on how to divide their assets. Jessica didn't sign a prenup, so by California law Nick is entitled to half of their estimated worth of $36 million. Nick was initially offered a crappy deal by Joe Simpson so he fought for more. Now he has agreed to settle in order to avoid a drawn out court battle. TMZ reports:
Sources say in the property settlement -- which has not yet been filed in court -- Nick will take significantly more than the $1.5 million, but considerably less than 50% of what he and Jessica earned during the marriage. Two sources in Nick's camp made it clear to TMZ that Lachey agreed to end the dispute because he does not want to hurt anyone in a contentious court battle.
Good for Nick for fighting but not wanting to drag everyone in the dirt. He knows he deserves to cash out, but it's not worth the tabloid fodder so why not settle for a few mil and call it a day. On the other hand, Jess was spotted doing what she does best with her money - shopping in NYC. More images so read more

27Sugacube, I think you're missing the point. When they FIRST got married. He was the bigger star. 98 degrees made far more money than Jessica Simpson did. Going into the marriage he had all the money, and didn't make Jessica sign the prenup. Only after they got married and had the MTV show did her career skyrocket. I don't think anyone is arguing that he was the bigger star during Newlyweds, clearly Jessica was.
28Actually Donald Trump did have to give 50% to Ivana. Haven't you heard her motto "DOn't get mad, GET EVERYTHING". He learned and had all his exes sign prenup after that
29I actually do think so, Ny. He seems like a very good guy. Despite the way she's behaved, he's still been very fair to her in the press. I don't see any reason to think he would be different about money. But, I guess, you never know.
30All i'm saying is that when they got married, Jessica knew that because there was no pre-nup, if Nick continued being the bigger star, in the case of divorce, she would have been able to go after 1/2 of his money, and so by setting it up that way, it now gives that right to Nick, and he is entitled to the money, just as Jess would be if it was the other way around.

42Jaxon, I agree. This is a gender role issue more than anything. Nick is definitely entitled to a sizeable portion of Jessica's earnings. However, our society frowns upon men who receive money from women, even if they are in their right to do so. It is unfair and sad.
No prenup was signed, and the truth is, Newlyweds put Jessica on the radar. She was just a wannabe Britney Spears before Newlyweds. I commend Nick for being a gentlemen throughout this ordeal. As they say here in the South, "That boy was raised right!". LOL

45sugacube- when you get married, EVERYTHING that EITHER of you make is BOTH of yours. It does not matter who made more. Dont get married if you do not understand the concept. Nick was also under Papa Joe's management, who did absoluty nothing for Nick, but he sure got his daughter a lot of endorsements. Nick was PUSHED to the side, so, I absolutly think his career would of been better with management that actually was working for HIM. You better believe that if Nick was the bigger breadwinner, Jessica would never settle for 1.5 million.
On top of it, Jess would not sign a pre nup, which means that she predicted Nick would possibly make more money, and this would ensble her to take half of his earnings if he dumps her.
As a woman, I just can not see how anyone can say nick does not deserve half of all earnings in that period. I respect others opnions, but I do not think people understand what the union of a marriage means.
46ps. Nick was reportedly worth a lot more then Jess coming into the marriage, he made a lot money with 98 degrees, where Jess had maybe 1 song that was known. I guess , if he was worth more, technically he was more successful going into the marriage.
47The thing that jump started Jessica's "career" was "Newlyweds" which would have been impossible without Nick. It's not JESSICA'S money, it theirs, just like what I make in my marriage is mine and Joe's and vice versa. He also had a recording contract worth in the low millions and endorsements as well as his ESPN deal. So it's not ALL Jessica's money. Not by a long shot.
