Last night, the Oscars provided an exciting finale to another awesome award season. We were treated to a new format that kicked off with Hugh Jackman showing off his singing and dancing skills before having fun and joking with the big names of the night. Later on he was joined by Beyonce, Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, and Amanda Seyfried for a fun medley honoring musicals. Jennifer Aniston looked gorgeous onstage and happy sitting next to John, although we were so hoping to see her on the red carpet. Among the big surprises of the night were the presenters — we were treated to sightings of some of our favorites from Reese to Will, with a special shout-out to Ben Stiller for cracking us up with his Joaquin Phoenix impersonation.
There weren't many upsets last night and the winners — click here to see them all — could not have been more gracious to accept their Oscar. Penelope started it off by joking that she might faint, which was later echoed by Kate Winslet who also had an especially sweet moment trying to locate her dad in the huge crowd. Heath Ledger's family accepted his statue on his behalf, as we teared up right along with everyone in the Kodak Theater. Sean Penn won the final showdown between him and Mickey, but he was sure to give his friend a very honorable mention. The big winner of the night was Slumdog Millionaire, with the whole cast onstage accepting the Best Picture trophy — right down to the film's smallest stars.

Actually, Jennifer Aniston looked like she wanted to crawl out of there. She looked very nervous onstage.
1I agree with Pop, Jenny looked lovely and she and Jack Black were cute with their little back and forth. John Mayer looked hot as I predicted. They looked great together.
2i was pleased with the overall show. it kept my attention the whole time which is rather impressive since i have the attention span of a 2 year old. i was happy with just about all of the winners too so this was a good Oscars for me.
3pop you forgot to mention the winner and how stunning they were pen cruz and kate winslet who are WINNERS looked fantastic and didnt look averaged
4I agree with fleurfairy. She seemed nervous and stumbled over a line near the beginning.. . I felt uncomfortable for her. That dress didnt do anything for her and her hair was just blah. Reese Witherspoon, Natalie Portman and Halle Berry-- now THEY looked gorgeous. Plus, John Mayer is gross. Bleh.
5i wasn't please with the show at all not like previous years, the only part that i like was jen's presentaion , she looks so beautiful and absolutely stunning and very funny, and john looked so hot and dashing , the other part that i liked was the indian dance which was very entertaining the rest was boring.
6Jen seemed a little uncomfortable. Hugh Jackman was adorable.
7I don't have TV and my internet is very slow so I didn't watch it but I just watched the opening number and loved it. Might have something to do with liking Hugh Jackman a lot though!
8I thought Ben Stiller's impersonation was beyond tacky. I'm not a huge fan of Joaquin Phoenix, but it's pretty obvious he's going through some personal issues right now, and it was cruel for his fellow actors to laugh at his expense. It would be like making fun of Britney's breakdown at the Grammys. I think the James Franco skit making fun of "bad" movies was crass too. People worked hard on these films, no need to humiliate them at the Academy Awards. Sorry, but everyone came off as a bunch of self-congratulatory snobs.
9I really enjoyed the show this year. I though Hugh Jackman was a great host, and I loved all the singing and dancing, as well as they way the awards were presented. It was amazing to see all of those great actors and actresses on stage together!
10Reese Witherspoon's hideous dress and makeup made me laugh!
11Joaquin Phoenix may be going through personal issues, but he is well known in the industry as a huge a**. Pompous, impossibly to work with and basically full of it. Just ask Reese Witherspoon how much fun she had waiting for JP to come out of his trailer on the set of Walk the Line.
12hugh jackman was great.
13it looked like jennifer anniston was going to break down crying at any moment... it was extremely awkward to watch!!
14The show was a lot of fun. Better then it has been for the last few years. I actually stayed up and watched the whole thing.
15Hugh Jackman was great , as I knew he'd be since I've seen him host the Tony's, and I really liked the bit with Tina Fey and Steve Martin.
the show was alright...Jennifer A looked cute and "girl next door" as Angelina has called her...Angelina on the other hand looked plain and boring as usual...hated those fug earrings
16I heard a lot of griping about the show's return to a more traditional style, but I loved it. I'm a sucker for musical numbers too so I loved the Hugh Jackman/Beyonce number, and the fact that it was a Baz Luhrmann production made it even better...
17ja make up was nice love the dewy look but the hair from 'the hills' was silly and look like mutton dressed like lamb, angelina looked stunning and simple
18I loved the format of the show...it was never boring or dull and people have to lighten up...the seth rogan and james franco thing was beyond funny...
19I loved Pene and Kate winning...they both looked stunning and I love them as actresses.
Aniston's dress looked very nice, but her hair was completely inappropriate and too beachy looking. She also seemed so nervous and it was hard and awkward to watch her.
Angie could have looked more glam imo, but she is always gorgeous and so talented.
Loved Sean Penn's speech...tears...
Oh and do not even get me started on Beyonce at the Oscar's once again...ughhh she is so overexpsed and getting on my last nerve. As if her bad french singing a few shows back was not bad enough. She looked dumpy too in that outfit, next to Vanessa and the stunnig Hugh...
20I like the part when the 5 past academy winners came up and and said a little something about each nominee - it was different and nice.
21I hink Jennifer Aniston looked great - Angelina Jolie looked plained as always, she always wears black, wear some color!
i thought hugh did a good job hosting. i was flipping back and for between the oscars and other stuff but i thought the oscars were less boring that usual. i'm so glad kate winslet won
22o and yea i liked how they brought out past winners, that was nice
23angie's dress was so pretty
24Joaquin isn't going through "personal issues" it's pretty known by now that he's bullsh*tting everyone cause he's making a mockumentary with casey affleck. That's why there's always a camera crew and casey following his ass and filming it all.
25Loved it! I wasn't disappointed with any of the wins, Hugh Jackman did a great job, and everyone looked great... aside from a few (Jessica Biel's dress was not flattering at all... yuck!)
26I agree with Cariadlawn. It was beyond gross to make fun of Joaquin at the Academy Awards ceremony. It really reminds you how these ceremonies are just self-indulgent bullsh*t anyway.
27I loved the Ben Stiller moment. It was sooooo funny. Loved the comedy sketch very much. LOL I was laughing so hard while they were laughing during The Reader. OMG I thought the second dance number was awful. They could have done without that. It had nothing to do with anything. I think everyone who won really deserved it and Jen looked a hot mess presenting, I have already expressed my true feelings in the thread with videos showing her present but to keep it short, Jen sucked because miss emotional couldn't keep it together in front of Brad and Angelina. Angelina looked amazing last night. Like the goddess she is. She was/is this glowing and radiant being. Over I really liked the night. Love the awards.
28I thought Ben Stiller was funny too but I didn't know what the joke was about or who he was supposed to be mocking.
I also felt that something went wrong with the Jennifer and Jack Black jokes. The flow wasn't right or something. I was embarrassed for them.
Loved Queen Latifah's song.
Kate Winslet was doing fine, then she said Meryl should "suck it up". That was a surprise and took her speech down a few notches in my opinion. It made her sound crass. That kind of language doesn't sound right when addressing Meryl.
Heath Ledger's family were so beautiful.
29I agree with those who said Jenifer Aniston seemed very nervous on stage, I felt a little bad for her esp. as Angelina and Brad were sitting front row. I didn't like her dress or hair either.
30I also really liked the part when the 5 past academy winners came up and and said a little something about each nominee - it made things more intimate and personal. I loved Hugh Jackman, he was so entertaining up there, the first number was amazing, the second ... less so. Over all I really enjoyed this years Oscars way more than other years and wonder how they will top this one next year.
As far as winners, I think Mickey and Marisa were robbed, as was Peter Gabriel (song for Wall-E). Glad Kate won.
I really enjoyed this year's Oscars. It was so entertaining! I liked how there was very little banter and more focus on the actors/movies. Hugh Jackman did a great job as host and the opening was really cool. I had no idea Anne Hathaway could sing like that! I also liked how past winners presented the the awards. It was so touching and you could see how the nominees were humbled and flattered.
31Also, Kate looked good. I like her kind of beauty. She is not a pretty beauty, she is more of a handsome type of beauty which makes her face very lovely and regal looking somehow. I think that may be one of the things that make her kind of beauty stand out from all the other beauties of the world. I think it also makes her very likeable among women. She looks intelligent too.
32I thought the show was over broadwayee (Not a word but you know what I mean) Jennifer was dressed to casual-Jessica Biels dress looked like one your mom would have made for prom. Ann Hathaway can sing. Loved Pene's dress and loved the story behind it. Did anyone think that Sean Penn seemed a little cold to his wife?? I thought the Ben Stiller stint was funny but sad. Does Joaquin really have a meth habit ?
33I loved Hugh and the musical numbers. I especially liked how they presented the acting awards - saying something lovely about each nominee so it was like they were all winners, really. Jessica Biel's dress was totally WRONG, Beyonce is over-rated, and Goldie Hawn needs to start dressing her age. The Joaquin send-up was pretty hilarious and ballsy - he has to know that he's making himself an easy target.
34I loved the musical number with Beyonce but that's probably because I'm a sucker for showtunes. I liked the presentation of the acting awards. I think the previous winners paying tribute to each nominee before giving the award was really special and made me all teary. Overall, I enjoyed the show even though I did terrible on my ballot.
35reese looks stunning x
36reese looks stunning x
37I found the show really good this year. Hugh was very charismatic and looked really confident during the performances. Unfortunately, I thougt Beyonce sounded rather dull and her performance left much to be sought after... My favorite was the past winners coming on stage, some of the made me want to cry... It was probably the best new thing that was added. The speeches were good and I'm finally glad my favorite Kate won, but Iris1000 is right the comment about Meryl came across rude. Another thing I found interesting was that Sean forget to thank his wife, she looked quite sad as well when he didn't acknowledge her. They stage set up was really great as well and bravo for the people who took time to set it up
38I was very pleased with the show this year and it didn't seem to drag on in a boring manner, either. Poor Jen, she looked like she wanted to crawl under the stage, probably to cover that weird braid of hers. I was cringed through her whole presentation with Jack Black, it just seemed like it went horribly wrong. I loved how Sean Penn's wife looked absolutely bored out of her mind during the show whenever the cameras swept that way! It cracked me up.
39All in all, almost everyone looked gorgeous minus SJP with her boobs pushed up and out to her armpits and Beyonce squeezed into a too small dress what was not attractive in the first place.
You may have something about Beyonce being squeezed into an outfit that was "too small". Sorry Beyonce, I love you, but you did look kinda of plump on stage. Your beloved ample figure may have gotten a little too ample to where it is not serving you as you would have it do. You looked great in the movie "Dream Girls". I think you said you had slimmed down with the Master Cleanser.
I actually tried the Master Cleanser once. The first 3 days are the hardest. After that it is smooth sailing and you feel so light and clean with so much energy. I think I will do it again as I have been eating a lot over Oscar weekend.
40I thought Hugh did a good job... Didn't take himself too seriously. The last performance with that Wall-E and Slumdog thing was good. I also enjoyed it when they brought out past winners (Sir Ben Kingsley)!
41Yeah. Hugh Jackman was good and entaining. He really enjoyed himself.
42I thought the show was great. Queen Latifah has a lovely voice!!!!
OMG, I love the Brange, but last night I so wanted to give Jen Aniston a huge hug when she was on stage, I NEVER say things like this......
She did well and I am proud of her......................she broke the ice
43Ben Stiller cracked me up!!!
44simbaspaws, "Pene" means Penis in Spanish...the Spanish press calls Penelope "Pe" instead.
45it's ok though.
46I agree with Cariadlawn I don't like it when the BUT and this is just my opinion, I also don't think they should worry so much about ratings and pleasing other people.
I prefer a more traditional format. I did like, LOVE, the Bollywood number.
The James Franco bit (and I do like him) was too MTV Movies for my taste. Too crass.
And yea, regardless of the deal with Joaquin he shouldn't have been mocked in that way. That Ben Stiller bit was also too MTV and declasse. Yuck.
47whoops I meant
**I agree with Cariadlawn, I don't like it when the academy comes across as too self congratulatory.
48The Ben Stiller thing was in very poor taste. Not funny at all
49I'm glad there's a few comments here about Sean forgetting to mention Robin in his acceptance speech. I ragged on him while I was watching and my boyfriend didn't think it was a big deal (!) He said Sean has to thank his movie associates and they are responsible for him getting the award, not his wife. Ok, is this just a gal thing or am I right for thinking Sean's a noob?
