Reese Witherspoon looks fresh-faced and beautiful on the April cover of Elle. She's been busy with her charity work, and now it's time to promote Monsters vs. Aliens, which comes out at the end of March. In her interview she talks about both Ryan Phillippe and Jake Gyllenhaal, while also giving tidbits about her life as a young mother. Here are some highlights:
- On her divorce from Ryan: "Very humiliating and very isolating . . . But, by the way, if it's not painful, maybe it wasn't the right decision to marry to begin with. Those are the appropriate emotions. When people get in your face and say, 'This will pass,' you think, Are they crazy? I’m never gonna feel any better than I feel right this minute and nothing's ever gonna make sense again. And I still have moments where I'm like, Nothing's ever gonna make sense again."
- On Jake: "He's fabulous. He really is a fantastic guy. Unfortunately, he's not in the movie, so we can't really talk about him."
- On her personality: "I don’t think I'm a control freak. I think I'm just fearful. I operate from a lot of fear, like, of things being lost or forgotten or neglected. Losing the spiritual rather than the physical. It's so funny to me that somehow I've been portrayed as a very, like, closed-off or uptight person. I'm very open."
- On being a young mom: "When I first had Ava, I couldn't afford [help]. And it was so hard. I was out in Los Angeles, living [away from my family]. I really didn't have any friends. And I had a baby. No one else who was 22 had a baby. I couldn't go out."
Reese also denied that she's obsessed with her diet, saying she's "made of cookies" and "a lot of red wine," which sounds like our kind of girl.

Reese looks cute on the cover, but why do these interviewers always ask the same innate questions about people's divorce like it just happen a couple of months ago? it's been years hasn't it?
5i always forget that she was only 22 when she had her little girl. that seems like such a long time ago..but i guess things happen for a reason right? i love how she deflected the question about jake and how she talks about her experiences.

8Love the second photo. She really is naturally quite lovely. She always seems to maintain grace and class, and keep her wits about her. I know we're still talking about Hollywood, but the way she has packaged and presented her image, combined with the movie roles she has chosen--definitely one smart, successful cookie.
9I didn't recognize it was her on the cover, someone was a little too heavy handed on the photoshop but that seems to be the norm these days.
The next picture of her is beautiful and fresh, love it!

17It is so hard these days to find someone that you can really RESPECT in Hollywood - and she is it! Very down-to-earth. She deflects the question about Jake so politely and in a joking way and her answer to the question about her divorce was honest without going into melodrama...a class act!
I love that picture of her, photoshopped or not, she looks great! I'm now going to buy Elle just to finish reading the interview. She's an intelligent, down to earth, polite person.

34Saying she stinks because she doesn't take a shower everyday is kind of harsh. Sometimes people are too busy in their lives, or else there are days when you just want to relax. Sometimes I even forget or don't have time to shower. It doesn't mean I stink, it means I didn't overexert myself that day to make myself smell bad.
