Never one to let another's headline overpower her own, Paris Hilton made herself the biggest story of last night by reporting to serve her jail sentence after leaving the MTV Movie Awards, two nights earlier than scheduled. She issued the following statement:

"I am ready to face the consequences of violating probation. During the past few weeks, I have had a lot of time to think and have come to realize I made some mistakes. This is an important point in my life and I need to take responsibility for my actions. In the future, I plan on taking more of an active role in the decisions I make. I want to thank my family, friends and fans for their continued support. Although I am scared, I am ready to begin my jail sentence."
TMZ caught the video (Kathy Hilton's window conspicuously left open so photographers could get the shot) of Paris getting driven into the facility. To hear more details of Paris' next 23 days and last night on the town just read more
Naturally, the heiress looked somber and scared as she reported for her time in the clink. For the next 23 nights, Paris will be in the big house and contrary to earlier reports, she will spend 23 hours/day in solitary confinement. I assume some feisty photogs will do their very, very best to get pictures during that one free hour every day.
So much for her last night out. Paris' time at the MTV awards seemed decidedly sucky. Consensus was she looked great, but after an awkward red (pink) carpet interview with SuChin, Sarah Silverman took some low blows at P in her opening monologue. I'm sure that Paris is used to being the punchline (how could she not), but Sarah's jabs seemed a touch unnecessary. The only other notable mention of Hilton during the night was when Dane Cook joked about how Paris left in a huff and checked herself into jail early. Funny cause it's kind of true.

she's gonna take full responsebility, she'd never done that, she doesn't have a choise going to jail or not, i'll hope she learns something from that, so we never hear stupid messages like she forget her underwear kinda stuff, all that girl wants is attention, i wish her good luck with the bible, like that's going to help, but it's a start to something new
1Wow, I'm glad she's doing something.
2Any chance they could misplace her in the system for a long, long time? Should someone start a pool on who we think will visit her on the weekend? Her lawyer can go daily, but friends & family only on weekends.
3Paris decided to check in early?
4She's probably doin this for attention... But i will give her kudo's for taking 'responsibility'...
5Bet her release will be equally covert, because she won't want anyone to see her after 23 days without make-up, her hair and skin care products, colored contacts, hair extensions, tanning, etc. Her mom's probably got a crew on standy to return her to her former look the moment she gets out.
6mothers, you may let your sons out now !
7Maybe she was too embarassed after Sarah Silverman's comment and she decided to hide herself in her special treatment jail earlier? She really deserves it, I'm not fooled by her innocent look she's been pulling lately.
823 days are many days. I really hope that it helps her to reconsider her actions, particularly when it comes to DUI. I hope it gives her a new lookout in life and make her learn that you can be the poshest of the posh but not putting other people's lives in danger.
9"more of an active role in the decisions I make", wtf?
10If she learns from her mistakes that is good.
11I hope she does, I can't stand her because of her actions but i dont have to look at her or know her.
I hope she learns that life isnt about what the unseen world thinks of her and from it goes out and makes a difference in her life and those around her.
Hollywood is as secure as sitcom on tv is and as sure to end sooner or later on all as the day ends and turns into night
There is more to life than parties and more to life than childish wants.
So in that I hope this is the begining of much growth
Ah...23 days that will be fairly Paris free...
Honestly though, hopefully it'll be a wake-up call to her....
12I am not at all convinced she will change in the slightest from this experience.
13i just don't understand why she showed up for the awards knowing full well that she was gonna be the butt of some jokes.
14Know how much money she'll make off of this stint? Of course there will be the book, free Paris shirts and whatnot. Maybe even a Paris doll in prison wear!! She won't learn...she's too spoiled and selfish....I'd love to see her looking normal. Thats the pics I want to see!
15I actually fell sorry for her now.... why? why?.....now I feel sad for me, for feeling for her
16I really hope that she does decide to be a better person, but the In the future, I plan on taking a more active role in the decisions I make part sure doesn't sound like someone who is actually taking responsibility for their actions. Sounds like she's saying other people had an active role in the decisions that have caused problems for her.
17Blah blah, being a good girl now...
18Oh, don't feel sorry for her now, because you know it's just a matter of time before she is doing offensive stuff again, and you'll be annoyed for having granted her that moment of pity. Why was she at the movie awards at all?? It's not like she has a film career going.
19Paris rocks! Love her! Hurry back to us Paris!! Sh*t, it's gonna be a boring 23 days w/o her!
20I say good for her. lol - After see the Awards last night, she's probably better off spending some time out of reach of all the nasties.
21its just a publicity ploy checking in early...im glad shell be away for a while
22Oh my God, can you people just say something nice about her just once?? Would it really be that hard?? Geez... she's trying to better herself and her life and you guys still can't give her the benefit of the doubt! Wow, just wow,
23I'm sure she got so bored "being good" (reading books, painting pottery, being fully clothed, eating ice cream) she was prob like "OMG, just put me in jail...it's better than living this way"! LOL
24No, seriously, I'm sure going in early is b/c of some sort of scheduling conflict for when she gets out! That's hot!
I don't like her, but I'm also not going to cheer and snicker over someone's pain. I hope she does her time and maybe gets a new outlook on life. Doubtful, but she's doing what she should do and people should just leave her alone for now.
25Also - TMZ says she's going to be in solitary for 23 out of 24 hours a day since they haven't found s proper cell mate. I guess for her own protection. So, I don't think her jail time is going to be that swanky and special.
26I am
she checked in early.
27why is everyone applauding her for taking "responsibility" for her actions?!? she drove drunk and now she's going to jail. that's not being responsible, that's the law. anyone who's ever known the hurt that drunk driving can bring wouldn't defend her. her going to jail isn't her being responsible, it's her being justly punished for willfully and selfishly endangering her life and the lives of others.
28
23 Paris-free days!
29I'm sure that Paris would have nothing nice to say about any of us, so I don't feel obliged to force a nice comment about her. She made herself into a vulgar punchline and if last night's MTV awards was the first time she figured that out, then she is even dumber than I thought. What is worse... the ho she is or that someone is willing to point it out in her face??
Paris had so many more opportunities in life than most people, and yet ends up in prison. Could have easily been avoided. This is entirely her own fault.
30mabess- And she realized that what she did was wrong, so get over it! She's stepping up to the plate and doing her time gracefully, so quit being haters!!
31Ginger- Why would she say anything nice about you?? She loves her fans, but why would she be nice to people who constantly put her down?? I personally love the girl and she's making that way easier to do lately with her decisions. Go Paris!
32I think her going early was a good idea and not to be IN the spotlight but rather to avoid it, every news camera in the country would have been around her house closer to the "D-day." Good for Paris.
33t_hive- I am with you, I think she deserves a little credit for taking responsibility for her actions.
34No matter what she does, there will ALWAYS be people here to bash her. Thats their own opinion. But, I can also have mine, it seems like there are WAY TOO MANY people in the world who don't give others the benefit of the doubt, and maybe just maybe they will change. How do you ever expect anyone to change, when there are so many negative people, that say the nastiest things ever about them. I firmly believe, that people just bash others to bring up their own self esteem, because they are so insecure about themself. Its really sad.

361) I said something partly nice hoping she learns from her actions
2) why should someone get over her actions
She drunk drove , if she had killed someone would you be saying get over it.
Having been hit head on by a drunk driver, which took my fiance and caused alot of emotional and phyiscal pain
I think that I know what it is like to have dealt with a drunk driver.
Personally I dont get why your so quick to defend her. Yes people change but yes I also am dealing every day as I learn to walk with his actions. he went to jail and ONE week after he got out he was 4 times over the legal limit and on the wrong side of the road.
I live with his choices every day, yes she didnt hurt anyone but the fact is with her choice she could have.
I realize people try to change and that is why I went to a few meetings by M.a.D.D in which one of them I spoke to repeat offenders.
I realize it isnt about me, but when you tell someone to get over the actions of others , remember that some live with those foolish actions each and every day.
Hmmm... Checking in early. That adds an interesting twist. This must be the first time in history anybody ever did that.
37I don't believe for one second Paris, herself, decided to check in early, I don't believe Paris, herself, wrote that statement, I don't even believe she will do the whole 23 days... that been said, I'm glad that at least for a week I don't have to see her sorry ass trying to pull a victim face.

not always, I dont gain any pleasure from doubting the actions of others. I am just one whom thinks that at the same time will judge one by there actions. If she changes more power to her.
But how many jump on her side because of her looks and position in society.
How often do you hear someone say she is ugly but doesnt deserve that.
( more a side thought)
39Paris loves only Paris. She doesn't love her "fans". To Paris, everyone else is just the little people, not worthy. It's too bad that the people defending her don't recognize that they are the same people she makes fun of. And she's a proven liar on many points, like what about her claim last year that she doesn't drink alcohol?? If that were true, she wouldn't be waking up in prison this morning.
40Lady Libertine- I'm very sorry that something like that had to happen to you. To answer your question, no, I would not be defending her if she had killed someone. The fact of the matter is that she didn't kill or hurt anyone. She realizes that she made a mistake and isn't like LL still out there reckless driving and partying after she hurts other people or herself. Paris is trying to better her life and I'm just asking for people to go a little easier on her. She knows that she could have hurt someone including herself, but I'm sure she's very thankful that it didn't turn out that way.
41LadyLibertine - Thanks for speaking up! I'm sorry that you've had to deal with so much. Drunk drivers are a serious menace and I think it's really sad that so many people are happy to ignore that.
I don't understand why anyone who is happy to trash other celebs would demand everybody be nice to their favorite celebs.
Can't we all have our own opinions?
42I heard she was offered a million dollars for her Jailbird Journals. *sigh*
43well I defiantly don't jump on her side because, she is pretty or because of her position in the society.
44Ladylibertine, we just have different opinions and there is nothing wrong with that. I was just always taught that you need to forgive someone, and let god deal with them the way he feels he needs to.
And, I have lost someone because of a drunk driver so I do know what it feels like to be on the other side of this. Did, I forgive the drunk driver? Yes, he paid for his actions and I do believe felt remorseful for the whole thing. You can't live in the past, only the future and take one day at a time.
Paris isn't going to jail for drunk driving either. It is for her probation violation or something.
t_hive88
45in that we agree, she didnt and it does seem like she is learning. In many ways I hope she does because I wouldnt wish this pain, any pain that drink driving causes.
So I am glad that you arent blind defending her. better one person change and learn than never learn at all.
I truly hope she finds something within her and in her future to make this just a silly thing that doesnt happen again.
You are right about LL, and she has to sooner or later confront her own demons , before she faces killing herself or someone else.
It is just a pitty that all of these stars get special treatments for any wrong doings, that is why they will never learn. She was exposed with her own dirt and still did not care just continued as nothing was said or showed about her + she loooves the attention... I wonder why do we get these good shots of her when the Car Windows are sooooo dark tinted...? stunts after stunts...
46Of course what a sad, happy fine family.. But you know money can not buy everything...

thank you , I must admit when I was standing infront of a group of twenty repeat offenders of all ages and trying to tell why my fiance one week after his 23rd birthday was killed and what it meant to me.
I guess that is why I am more sensitive to when it involves such actions. I think of how not long after 3 kids and a mother was killed by a drunk driver and how she is in jail saying it was a set up.
I remember how his father was 2 cars behind and saw it happen and because he was a paramedic had to ignore his dead son and work hard to save me.
Even now I wake up at night hearing him say god not my son.
I realize it has nothing to do with Paris, but that risk, always feels just like it was yesterday.
So I guess what I am trying to say is , I hope that after this is all over we dont see any drink driving from her again.
47Hope springs after alll eternal
And ladylibertine, and I am very sorry for your loss. Losing anyone is hard, expecially since it was actions of other people and not his own.
48LadyLibertine - I really can't imagine the pain you've gone through.
I really hope she does learn
and she does change her behavior in the future, but I'll believe it when I see it.
49oh please. Yeah, getting all dressed up and going to an awards show to make sure everyone sees you (and that means the paps) and then turn yourself in so that we all can see how sad and sullen you are. boohoo.
