Madonna continued on her visit to Malawi, despite the setback this morning when the judge denied Madonna's adoption request. He cited the law in Malawi that an adoptive parent must live in the country at least 18 months prior to becoming the child's parent, which was waived when Madonna adopted David Banda. As expected, her lawyers have already filed for an appeal on Madonna's behalf. The superstar was not present in the courtroom today, but she has been in the country with her three children all week visiting the schools she helped fund. It sounds like Madonna's battle for 3-year-old Mercy isn't over yet, but at this point, it doesn't sound like the superstar is getting special treatment.

ha, imagine this one hearing the word NO 2 times in a row
well her plastic surgeon doesnt know that word obviously
she looks BRUTAL!!!
OMG give her the baby. Lets not pretend if asked we would say dirt floors, malnutrition, poor or little schooling is want we want for this child. Her mother is dead and her father missing. America is like winning the lottery for this little girl and those reasons are why she should be granted adoption to Madonna.
As the judge already pointed out, thanks to the schools and orphanages already built, the orphans of Malawi are getting good care, and can still maintain contact with relatives in the area.
Oh no, I feel bad for Madonna and this little girl! That is a very long residency requirement and makes it nearly impossible for anyone to adopt a child internationally from the area. I hope Madonna persists, she obviously has a lot of love in her heart to give and regardless of what you think of her as a person- or her plastic surgery for goodness sakes!- a life with her is a savings grace to any child in an orphanage. No matter what the judge said no orphange in the world is a good place for a child.
Just give her the little girl! it is not like she is having a better life living in squalor. People may hate madonna for whatever reason, but at least she can provide for this baby.
I'm not sure a childhood as Maddonna's child is the healthiest way to grow up but I think it's a bit much having live 18 months in the nation (with having to miss work and everything). 6 months sounds sufficient.
Some parents really do say goodbye to their homes, careers & families for 18 months in order to adopt a child. Those people really have my respect.
Eep...what's totally distracting from this serious article is that the filler that's in her cheek is being squished by her sunglasses. Madge, shake your head!
It's seriously wrong to not follow the laws one time and then decide all of a sudden that you have to follow the laws. I'm sure she thought it would be the same with Merci as it was with David.
I think they all should have to follow the rules. That's
what they were made for.
she looks hideous..inside and out. I still feel a little sad for the kids knowing that Madonna spanks her kids for punishment. That is such a past way of parenting and it's been proven that it is not a healthy form of punishing a child. You never strike a child to teach him/her something. Everyone is saying how much better the little girl would be with Madonna..I don't agree. The judge said she was getting educational and health care and was making progress in both areas and she's being raised in her own culture. When you see that little David Banda, he's usually being dragged around by some nanny and never smiling. Madonna's world would be flying from here and there..storms of Paps everywhere they went, and no privacy. The little girl would get anything she wanted and that includes all the drugs she wanted when she hits teenage years. With fame comes downfalls too..and I can't help but think this little girl is just fine where she is. She's not starving and the photos shown yesterday show her smiling and laughing in the arms of her caregivers. Madonna has 3 children and she's almost 50 yrs old. She should take care of the ones she has..be thankful for them, instead of wasting all this time by bringing more drama into their lives with this appealing crap. Madonna has serious mental issues and doesn't deserve another child. They said she almost had a panic attack and kept wringing her hands over and over when she found out they denied her. She didn't even know how to act..all she knows is no one tells her NO and she's going to fight on that basis alone, not what's best for all children involved. Poor Rocco gets pushed to the side in everything they do while she shoves her adopted kid in our faces. It's all about Media for Madonna and I'm glad she got a dose of reality for once.

Where are the dirt floors this girl is being raised? Contrary, they reported that she is being raised in very good conditions and around other kids her age whom she considers family. How detremental would that be to yank her from the only family she knows so she could be shoved into the spotlight and getting chased by 100 paps everyday for the next 20 yrs?
Some people have reached new lows now to say that a child should be raised in an orphanage. That's a selfish statement to make and not a sane statement either. I'm shocked!
All I can sat is that if I were that little girl, I would want to stay put, instead of being snatched by this child-collecting psycho b*tch.
So if you were a child now, you'd rather live in an orphanage and have no mother or father, than to be adopted by a family?
The residency rules prevent child trafficing. and who says america is like winning the lottery. its not all that if you ask me!!!!
So Madonna is a child trafficing kids even though she's already adopted from Malawi before and has 2 biological kids of her own. Poor little girl, it's said people think this way as if they really care.
no not what i said. the rules are there to prevent that and they apply to her too!! And i would argue her present life-50, newly divorced co-habiting with a 22 year old with hectic travel schedule is not the best! but cause its madonna she should get her own way right!!!
to shantejam; yes. and the child has family. that madonna b*tch is never around, as the judge rightly pointed out.
and this myth that all of africa lives in squalour and hunger is not so. and for this child, being thrust into a life i would find alarming is not right. basically i fundementally disagree with this adoption and cant think of a good reason for it, but oh yeah madge wants it and gets what she wants?!??!
i wonder what grounds they are going to appeal the decision on. granted she has every reason to given that they waived the rule with david. if they did it once, she has every reason to assume that they would do it again, knowing that mercy would have a much better life with her rather than living in the orphanage.
Well where is the family? The most precious time in molding a child is now? Why is she living in an orphanage? Have any of you ever been to this part of Africa and witnessed what you know to be true and fact for yourselves? I've never heard someone to state that in Africa what little we see is a "myth." Really, this is not about Madonna, this is a little girls life that you're talking about.
BTW, they mentioned that Malawian rule is very archaic. It came about years and years ago and needs to be changed.
Right... Madonna should feel free to go around buying babies whenever and wherever she wants. Who are any of us to decide that a child's life would be better somewhere else? Who are any of us to decide that a child would be happier with Madonna? Who are any of us to determine that Malawi law is wrong? She never should have been permitted to circumvent the rules the first time when she bought David Banda out from under his father. Rules are rules and laws are laws and Madonna could use a quick dose of reality.
exctly its the girl.honestly you think madonna coming in athrowing her arms about and pouting and ripping this child away from her country to go live under the microscope of madges crazy life in the great US of A is thhe best way she can help this little girl?modanna is selfish and wants to buy a doll for lourdes to play with
I don´t think that landing in a rich family is a lottery and the best thing that can happen to a child. I mean, Michael Jackson is rich.
Its a cry how far people will go to discredit someone who is trying to help, Madona clearly wants to help and its being thown back in her face! If i were her , I would just turn my back on it and fin a better alternative .
