her mom is her enabler, always making excuses for her behavior and her dad just wants his name in the paper. either way, it sucks for her because she doesnt have anyone telling her that her lifestyle is wrong. until she goes to rehab because she truly believes she has a problem, she will be in and out for a long time

I so pity this girl...her parents are more concerned with publicity than the well-being of their daughter & mooch off her success, he friends are enablers and use her for her money and to make money off of her...she's still only 20! ya know, i am so tired of people bagging on her dad. he is the only one that seems to have it together. yeah, he had his problems, BUT, he did his time, got it together, got cleaned up and now he is going into some type of ministry to help others who have battled the bottle or drugs. just because he is interested in seeing his daughter and trying to help her doesnt mean he is in it for publicity. maybe he is really trying to reach out, mend some fences and be a dad and support for her, something he flaky mother isnt doing. instead she is off trying to get some reality tv show.

and as far as poor lindsey, heck, she is almost 21! there comes a time when you have to step up and take accountability for yourself. dont blame it on your parents, or your enabling friends or the fame. everyone wants to pass the blame, instead of facing it for themselves. she can make choices, no one forces her mouth open to pour booze down it, nor do them force coke up her nose. she is just lame.

I feel awful for her. In no way am I excusing her behavior, just seeking an explanation why she's hellbent on destroying herself. I don't know if others took any psych classes but the cutting was a big red flag for me: child abuse, not just domestic violence, but pedophilia (way, way too common and getting worse thanks to the web and the infantilization of women/sexualization of girls blurring). That would explain her promiscuity (confessions, plus those knife photos, which shows she sees sex as self- or anti-female abuse) as well as her desperate needs for drugs and alcohol. There's being sexually liberated and then there's Lindsay who uses anyone and everything around her to destroy herself, so why not sex? If my suspicions are correct, it would explain why she's so messed up and can't get her life together: since a child can't rebel against a pedophile, she turned that hatred inward in an attempt to understand how something so cruel could happen to her. She honestly feels she's innately bad and deserves to be horribly punished.

dirtbike-concerned fathers do not write the tabloids a letter addressed to their daughter. all of his contact with her has been through the media. and your right she is 21 but she has never been taught the tools to live in normal society much less dealing with fame. no one ever told her that her behavior is wrong, both of her parents just let her do what she wants because she is their cash cow, she keeps them in the spotlight, even if it kills her.
