Jennifer Garner's fresh face and pink lips grace the May cover of InStyle. After taking time off and spending the first part of the year with Seraphina and Violet, Jen's ready to get back on the promotional circuit for Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. Of course, she couldn't help but gush a little about her family and give us a peek into the Garner-Affleck household. Here are highlights:
- On fashion and makeup: "I never go nuts with my look. It's easy to feel like you've gone into caricature territory when you do. These days I wear less makeup than earlier in my career, but I know a lot more about it now."
- On cooking skills she's learned from her mom: "She taught me to proof my yeast with a little bit of sugar. And she also taught me how to stretch a roasted chicken to make three meals. Though Ben could eat an entire chicken in one sitting."
- On sharing household duties with Ben: "Ben will do the school run. He dresses her and does her hair. It's pretty funny. You can always tell when he has been at it, just two random barrettes hanging in there. It's so sweet."
It's no secret that Jen and Ben are pretty hands-on parents, though maybe Ben can hone his hairstyling skills before taking his turn with Seraphina.

i think that she's always managed to look put together and never too over done but i can understand what she's saying right now.

But honestly, she does not NEED to stretch a roast chicken for three meals. Sad to say but let Ben eat the chicken in one night!

7He is glad he is with Jen not JLo. There is a picture out there where JLo and Ben were at some game and JLo was doing her nails. There were in a box seat. Later, different picture and the same seat with Jen and both were laughing and cheering . I thought it was great insight on the relationship that he had with both women.

9OH I like her, just do. I think it's cute that Ben actually does his kid's hair LOL, my dad NEVER did that to mine (thank goodness tho').

11That was really cute about the barrettes. And didn't they fall in love on the Daredevil set (when he was with JLo) but Jennifer Garner was married then? Am I remembering that wrong? I think that's what happened. But don't quote me on it..lol
12w/ j-lo? lol, i don't think so. he called off the wedding what, the night before? i think ben looks pissed because he remembers what the media frenzy did to that relationship; destroyed it. he's said he never wants to go through that again.

14I can't believe people will do the whos better and so on (J.Lo and Jen G). Also, as a J.Lo fan I feel that I got to put my two cents in. J.Lo is definitely glam but that doesn't mean that she isn't down home either. I think people judge her way unfairly at times. She is a Nuyorican girl...think about it Latinos take their daughters to pierce their ears when they are b/w 4 and 6mos old and dress their little girls in frilly dresses for some events, teach them how to cook practically before puberty and raise them Catholic. I mean, some woman are just girlier than others (aside culture...because you know that some Latina girls are different or rebel from cultural expectations) but Jennifer L strikes me as a combo of being very glam and girly and her Puerto Rican/American upbringing.
She will pick out a shirt for her man to wear and make him "chuletas or fritos" and still get her hair done to look good for him and herself.
The fact that she is known as a diva (true or not) doesn't mean that she doesn't like to kick it at home or wanted to have a simple life with Ben. If anything she wanted both things. I guess the difference is that Jen G just wants the Martha Stewart lifestyle and Jen Lopez would have been happy to have the equally nice homelife and glamourous movie life too.
15I hate to be skeptical and find annooying when people assume things. However, I will say this...Jennifer Garner is so lucky that she gave birth to Seraphina a month ago and gets do this interview for her new movie. I know that this happens all the the time and that sometimes it's coincidence or that you will be expected to talk a little of your home life (and I would defend JLo if people said she was being exploitative too) but I feel that maybe if it's true may Jennifer Garner is more ambitious than we realize and maybe she is more "wholesome and sweet" so we forgive her for somethings a little more easily, but it doesn't mean she is better than anyone else or any of Ben Afflecks' exes. She is not his "saviour." Gee.
16I have to add that my mother took me to get my ears pierced and my Dad thought it was "barbaric," but what can I say? My mom is "Latina."
17Well I see J-Lo not as a "Latina" or Nuyorican or whatever. I just see her as herself, which I don't like as much as Jen. So I consider Ben is a very very lucky man to be married to Jen.
18And I don't know if she's a better mom or not, but she's definitely a great mom. You can see that Violet is a very happy and well-raised. So I think it's going to be hard to top that.

20I have to agree with everything Peachykeen19 just said. I always thought JLO was very girly, heck I'm girly and I love dressing up all the time. Even if I'm going to the grocery store. I think J. Garner gets a lot of foregiveness. I remember one time JLO was caught on camera and she wasn't all dressed up, everyone had commented so badly on the way she was dressed. Heck that day she was dressed just the way J. Garner dresses with sweats and a T-shirt. Everyone loves the way J. Garner dresses cause she's so "down to earth" but when JLO does it, its such a bad thing. Just something to think about!!
21Did anyone read the Esquire article about Ben? It's clear that he hates the way the paparazzi invades his life, particularly because they always try to photograph his children. So it makes sense that he would look pissed anytime someone is taking his picture, even if he's with one of his girls.
And if he's anything like the rest of us, he probably thinks fondly of J-Lo, remembers what he liked about her, but is happy that he has started a family with Jen instead. Just because their relationship was publicized doesn't mean they're more likely to be holding a grudge or unable to get over one another.

31ok, he's moved on from "Jenny from da hood" so lets give it a rest...Jennifer Garner is very pretty and when she's done up, she's beautiful..she seems super down to earth and actually enjoys being a mom..she's not hanging onto her career terrified that nobody will give a shyt about her in 2 yrs - with a new face and wig closet (that's some twilight zone shyt)
