After what was described as a difficult first night in the Twin Towers jail medical ward during which Paris was described as "despondent" and "fragile," she finally released a statement this afternoon. She's remained pretty quiet during this whole mess, but apparently she felt it was time to speak, or at least have someone translate her thoughts into a carefully worded statement. It read:

"Today I told my attorneys not to appeal the judge's decision. While I greatly appreciate the Sheriff's concern for my health and welfare, after meeting with doctors I intend to serve my time as ordered by the judge.
This is by far the hardest thing I have ever done. During the past several days, I have had a lot of time to reflect and have already learned a bitter, but important lesson from this experience.
As I have said before, I hope others will learn from my mistake. I have also had time to read the mail from my fans. I very much appreciate all of their good wishes and hope they will keep their letters coming.
I must also say that I was shocked to see all of the attention devoted to the amount of time I would spend in jail for what I had done by the media, public and city officials. I would hope going forward that the public and the media will focus on more important things, like the men and women serving our country in Iraq, Afghanistan and other places around the world."
Could it be that Paris is finally sick of attention? Is Paris really a changed woman? I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Paris speaks? I wish she would just shut up.
1Paris can't even speak without making spelling (yes!) mistakes... I wonder who wrote this love-your-nation speech?
2Well, whoever wrote that little bit did a nice job. I just hope that Paris feels the same way.
3suck it
4I personally think that she will (hopefully)start to change. However, we ALL know that no one will give her a chance, so why bother? Hell, just read these comments. LOL Its sad, but its the truth: people are ruthless. IDK, I just want to give her a chance. We are not even NEAR 45 days.
5Sounds like someone's VALIUM has kicked in
I don't believe she's changed in only 2 days - she's on major anti-depressants which has mellowed her out, but lest we forget she was hysterically crying and pleading not to go back in. I think she realizes what a ridiculous spectacle her life has become and knows she needs to disappear for a while. PLEASE God, let her know this!!!
6Well she's right about the last bit- there ARE far more important things in the world than her!!!
7I would so impressed if she comes out of this a changed person. Maybe this is the wake up call she needed. I think it's definitely going to be a "wait and see" situation.
8Are you serious? She didn't write it, she's still raising hell in Twin Towers. She can't stand someone else calling the shots in her life. She doesn't appreciate "fans" or anything else. She's trying to GET OUT as soon as possible. Someone else is planning the tactics, Paris Hilton is too stupid to do anything except party and ...
9she's soooo....ANNOYING!!!! whoever wrote that is right... there are more important things to be talking about!!!
10Oh please--she didn't learn her lesson after her sex tape was released, either
11Right then, next time Paris and Nicole have something to promote we'll remember there are better things to be focussed on. y/n?
No, she will not change.
12We will see, if she did learn anything from it.. She did already make such a drama with her Medical state, release and going back etc..., and she should consider herself lucky to be in a Medical Jail, must be better than a normal cell. I don't believe she changed, it is just hard for a heiress like her to be the one who must do something that she doesn't want or is not enjoyable.....
13she is trying. we all dont know if she will follow though but i am sure jail will scare the crap out of her and she will reflex her actions over that.
14If she truly changes, we won't be hearing too much from her ever again. I'm not betting a penny on that, though. Too risky (I am not saying it won't happen but it's just not worth the shot).
15Elliot mintz is right (obviously he wrote it.. she DID NOT) hahaha
16Paris Hilton is a boil on the butt of humanity. GO AWAY.
17Paris is not smart enough to write something like that
18The sooner people stop talking about her the quicker she'll go away.....
19The only change Paris will go through is Detox and withdrawal from having her picture takes. Does anyone know why the judge went back to the 45 day sentence?
20what a pretentious woman, hmmm I doubt she would learn anything, if she didn't learn anything from her Reality show "Simply Life" she won't definitely learn anything from this one, unless she becomes poor and lose everything. Then she would realize life is a serious matter! Not just a playground for spoiled brats!
21HAHAHHA YAH RIGHT OH PLZZZZZZZZZZZ~get real..
22Great PR attention Paris. Thank your PR for writing such a great letter.
23Great PR attention Paris. Thank your PR for writing such a great letter.
24You were SHOCKED by the attention???
25My ass.
Nice speech though I don't beleive that she wrote it...
26Well whoever did write that is fired as soon as she hears about it! Imagine trying to convince Princess Paris' public that there are more more important things in the world that we should be focusing on, the audacity! Why, that's practically treason!! We ALL know that this is Paris' world and we just live in it
27Hey I think that's a nice statement. I feel bad for her, whatever she says is used against her - whether her words are what she should say or not. She's in jail, serving her time, give the girl a break!
28How many days does she have to serve? She was originally giving a 45 day sentence, that was reduced to 23. I heard the judge changed it back to 45 though. Has she to serve the remainder of that or the remainder of the 23 days? The remainder of the 45 days I hope!
29She looks like one of those stores human like dolls...manicans, well atleast she as a point. But anyways i dont know if that means she doesnt want the attention on her anymore or just in this case when it seem the public is influencing decisions made about this situation.
30"I was shocked to see all of the attention devoted to the amount of time I would spend in jail for what I had done by the media, public and city officials"
oh whatever she loves all the attention, she had it coming..i still dont feel sorry for her, she's getting what she deserves and whoever wrote that speech wrote it really well. im sure she feels bad, but im not gonna buy into her feeling like a victim until she actually finishes her jail sentence. because w/ this whole paris going to jail thing changes everyday, tomorrow she's going to Alcatraz then the next day she's serving time in hugh hefner's mansion. its just all ridiculous. all im trying to say is she should just serve her time so she can move on w/ her life
31whoever wrote this for whatever reason...well said and I hope she abides by this, it's by far the most grown up thing she's said since this all began
32Yeah, maybe-learned that there are more important things in this world than her and her lifestyle. That there are actually people in this world that are going through pure hell, right. now. and there are people who would give anything to go what she's "going through"...(read the paper's, honey. And not LA ones-world ones.) Realizing that she's not the only one that matters in life? ..Hmmmmm.. No matter how much I hate her-the reason I hate her is her selfishness and self-absorbed, distorted "reality". She's disgusting. But If she actually gets out and proves or is obvious that she has changed and isn't just putting on a show for people, I will maybe reconsider the force of my hatred. But that's only if I can see that's she's actually trying and isn't milking this whole thing for more publicity once she gets out. But yes, Id be willing give her a chance...If she plays her cards right.
33"suck it"
LOL!
About the statement - I think the magic words are "publicist prepared"
34She got what she deserved. STFU you spoiled brat!! Maybe if her parents raised her a little better she would realize that throwing a tantrum does not work. No matter what she does in life.. she will have always been in jail. Yeah Paris I am so JEALOUS of you now!! LOSER!!!
35It's good that she is facing up to her mistake but I don't think she's going away. This jail stint is only going to make her more famous.
36Who wrote this? Not Paris! I don't believe .. well let's say anything except that she maybe regrets it what she has done (for now)...
37She did not write that! Enjoy your time in jail brat!!
38i think shes really trying dont shoot me plz
39This is a best letter a Hilton could have ever written......Nikki Hilton....girl stop havin your sister write your pr letters for you lol.
40umm ppl she so did say all this i mean look "serving our country in Iraq, Afghanistan and other places around the world."
come on "other places around the world"? wtf
41It seems to finally be penetrating the cloud of thickness that surround Kathy Hilton's brain that most people really truly cannot stand her daughter.
42Oh, please, I don't believe she's changed at all. And I'm sure the "bitter lesson" she's learned is just how much everyone hates her and wishes her ill. Her fans try to pretend that we're all just picking on her for no reason or because we're jealous (
), but the truth is that she
consistently goes out of her way to make a spectacle and an ass of herself for the sake of getting any attention she can get, and most people don't appreciate that kind of behavior. So when
she does something stupid and it bites her in the butt, we can't help but feel a certain amount of satisfaction. And I don't feel bad about that at all because any disgust we feel for her is
100% earned. It is to her credit that she has decided not to appeal, but (since she's never given me any reason to believe that she does anything except for publicity's sake) I think it's
just a PR attempt to improve her public image. I'm sure she didn't realize before this debacle just how bad that image had gotten.
43I hope she actually does feel that way.
44I dont think she will change, although I HOPE she does.
45My God, is anyone really stupid enough to believe Paris wrote that statement or even feels that way? I only hope that her cellmates don't screw up her prison neck tattoos. Swastica on the left, Arian Power on the right! I heard they had to rent a backhoe to do a full cavity search on her.
46Give the girl a break. I don't think anyone should be casting stones, no matter who the person is. She recieved an unfair sentence and isn't even appealing. I was never a fan, and still am not, but no one can deny that this girl has recieved the bad end of the deal. Everyone has an opinion on her, and sure, she has done nothing in her wealthy life to truly benefit others but her personality has nothing to do with justice and that's not what was on trial. My father even mentioned to me that she should sue for unfair treatment because people usually only serve 10% of their sentence on DUI cases and then are let go.
47I hope she changes... I'm sceptical tho... But her not appealing may show some responsibility...
48Oh please!! She didn't care that media attention should be focused on Afghanistan or Iraq when she released that porn vid....oh I mean when her ex released it.....
49I (begrudgingly) give her props for refusing to appeal. Damn it.
50I think people should take their rage out at the media power brokers (GE, Viacom, Disney) than some dimwit. They're the ones w/ the power, not her. And even then they're satisfying the obvious demand we (the public) have for her. What the hell does that say about us? Sectarian violence in Iraq is rapidly increasing yet again (another 200 or so bodies found recently) and we don't give a damn! Unbelievable.
