it's a good idea to have Angelina play Cornwell, but I think the production team should find new faces to take this role.. Angelina has too much stardom to make the role exciting.. they should invest in new young actresses.. fresh faces that haven't flooded the mainstream media

i feel like she's pretty much only good in this type of genre - the whole action thing. i know that she's gotten nominated for dramatic parts - but those aren't the ones that most people are as into when it comes to her. i'm personally indifferent since i'm not a fan, but i guess if she knows what she's bankable with then she should just stick with it.

Cornwell's books are NOT action books. I've read most of them and I cannot see Angelina Jolie playing Kay Scarpetta. I really hope they don't change the feel of the character or the stories to suit Jolie's forté.

I guess it's good business that she signs on for a franchise role. Guarantees money coming - wouldn't want to see them in the poor house.

I would never have seen her in this role...Scarpetta is supposed to be good looking but not like the Lara Croft/exotic/etc. I can see a younger her playing Scarpetta's neice, Lucy. And these books are not action at all...oh I hope they don't screw it up.

she wrote a book about exposing the real identity of the Ripper. that was good. have never read these novels so dont have an actress in mind. its always wierd when books go to film. you have these characters set in your head, how they look, then its not how you want it onscreen.

Lisa - that's the only reason I have a problem with reading this crap about taking a break or whatever. It seems like she says it the way any other working mother says it - feeling guilty for being successful. I say, why apologize. Own your life.

That being said, sadly I could have seen someone like Natasha Richardson or even Naomi Watts playing Kay Scarpetta. Angelina Jolie wouldn't even have been on the list of possibilities for many reasons.

I've read a LOT of Pat Cromwell's books. And Angie does NOT fit the Kay character at ALL. I'm not an Angelina hater, I just don't think she is right for the role. I would go with someone a little softer, like Laura Linney. If Angelina wants to make a kick-ass female detective movie, that's great, go for it. But leave Kay alone.

I've read most of her books and I completely agree, Amesabelle. The Kay Scarpetta books may have some action moments, but they are definitely not action.

And, Angelina Jolie does not fit the character. She's a fine actress, but I just can't see her in that role at all.

Laura Linney would be a good choice, I think. Or someone more unknown. Angelina Jolie would just overshadow the character and story.

I've also read all of the Kay Scarpetta's books and I'm a fan. Although I like Angelina, I think she's not the right choice to play Kay, absolutley not!!! Even if I try, I can't picture Angelina playing Scarpetta. As some of you said, action has got nothing to do with Kay's books, she's a doctor. I love Patricia Cornwell, love Dr. Kay Scarpetta and have read every one of these books. I am VERY, VERY disappointed that Angelina was chosen to play this role. She has no business playing Dr. Scarpetta who is supposed to be blonde, fit and much older than Jolie. But I guess following the books too closely wouldn't sell enough tickets. This is one movie franchise that I'll be skipping.

Eh, so what. The Morgan Freeman character, Alex Cross is white. Isn't Jason Bourne older than Matt Damon? Let's see what she brings to the role. She actually has a lot more range than most actresses. She can do tough and soft like A Mighty Heart. You can't fault the woman for making as much money as she can. She donates a third of her income to charities. The Mormon church only as for 10%. How many of use even donate 1%?

Didn't she just take more than a year off in between wrapping the Changeling and starting Salt? She was France having twins for quite awhile last year. Might as well work now, because the roles for women after 40 get few and far between in Hollywood.

The way they rotate their work and have long breaks between projects, they probably get to spend more time with their children than most working couples.

This is classic Angelina-Jolie-Double-Standard and incredibly sexist Brad went back to work when the twins were 10 weeks old. Nicole Kidman went back to work 3 WEEKS after Sunday was born. Angie was with the twins for 8 MONTHS nad she isn't breast feeding anymore. Naomi Watts started filming when Sammy was 8 weeks old and is now filming her 2nd feature while Liev is working on "Salt". Sammy is only four months old WHo is taking care of their kids.

i love angelina, but scarpetta is in her late 40s-50s, blonde, blue eyed, italian looking, with an olive-y complexion, and a little curvier than angie (i think last book said she was a 6-8 bottom and 10 top). seriously? she's gorgeous and a great actress, but that's just bad casting.
