Jessica Simpson scored the June cover of Vanity Fair and looked pensive in her Mario Testino photo shoot for the magazine. In her interview Jess revealed she hasn't spoken to Nick Lachey in years and said Tony Romo watched a few episodes of Newlyweds and thought she was "cute." She also talked about her controversial relationship with her father and how she deals with criticism. Here's more:
- On her father: "I can talk to my dad like he’s my manager, and put ‘Dad’ on the back burner. We’ve been doing it since I was 13. So, at this point, we’re in a good rhythm. A lot of people find it strange, but it’s the only way I know. And I don’t care to know another way, because it suits me. And we’ve done a pretty dang good job."
- On being compared to Britney and Christina in her young career: "My album was different [from the others]. I released a ballad first. I wasn’t dancing and doing that whole thing. I wanted to set myself apart. But I was always third runner-up."
- On the Cowboys: "I was always a fan. In Texas, it’s a sin not to be. But I’ve never been as passionate as I am now. Before a game, I’m crazed, sending mass e-mails: ‘Please pray for Tony’s protection.’ ... We don’t let [the criticism from fans] affect our relationship. If we did, we wouldn’t be together, because it happened at the very beginning. Dating the Cowboys quarterback comes with hype, the fans, the bloggers, but I’ve never dated a guy that was more simple. I’m always there for him after a game, and he knows he has me to come home to."
- On her future: "I’ve never let a stumbling block actually make me fall ... There will always be another opportunity, another door to walk through. "

that's kind of funny that tony said that she was 'cute' in the newlyweds. i don't think that cute is the word that came to mind for most people while watching that show. in any event, it's nice to see that she's grown up
1Question: Why is this no talent on the cover of Vanity Fair? I mean give me a break Vanity Fair, Jessica Simpson is the best person yoou could put on cover. I would expect this from Comso Girl but not Vanity Fair.
2Why is she even on the cover on Vanity Fair? Is she even promoting anything other than herself?
3She talks waaaaaay too much about personal things, IMO. And what has she even done recently to deserve a VF cover????
4She looks AMAZING.
Most celeb interviews are about their personal life with a little mixed in about their project they are promoting.
5What the hell? This is very low-rent of VAnity Fair to put her on the cover. What is she even promoting, her personal life, which NOBODY is interested in any more.
6oooh, la la she got talked about for being fat! it was a slow news week.
Photoshop much?
7Close your mouth Jess....
8I thought VF was some kind of prestigious mag I guess I was wrong.
9I went on VF website and read the entire article. The VF edito about her is pretty harsh I'm surprised . They should have called this the tacky issue featuring Jessica Simpson.
10ditto bubule! i read the whole article as well..not a huge jessica simple fan but the article was really harsh...she nor her family is going to be pleased when they read the stuff the author printed
11I'll never understand the intense hatred for Jessica Simpson. She seems like a sweet person, even her career isn't on the best track. So she's not an actress. Big deal. There are plenty of celebrities who tried and failed. The woman has a very successful clothing line. If she's doesn't have a right to be on here, why is Nicole Richie? Rachel Bilson? What have they done lately?
12No one cares... Jessica Simpson is so 2002. Ugh, fakeness
13I agree with you mondaymoos, I don't see whats so offensive about jessica... I watched Newlyweds, maybe I wasn't watching the same show the rest of you were, but geez... that was so long ago why are people still holding on to that, she's changed apparently, this interview is much more mature than one she would have given back then. She is more relavent than alot of the people written about on pop sugar, like nicole ricci, lindsay lohan, ect.
14i agree with esk and mondaymoos...while she has has several career flops, that article was definitely not warranted (and before people write anything too hateful you should go read the article because it's really harsh)
she is much more relevant that nicole richie or any of these "faux" celebs covered on sugar...
no one bashed lauren conrad like this when her clothing line flopped..why jessica simpson when she has a successful fashion line but hasn't done so hot with her music and movies?
15She never was "dancing or doing that whole thing"?...
That's a lie. Most of her old videos were dance videos, just like Britney and Christina except her voice wasn't as good. I went to a Plus One/Eden's Crush concert in 2001 and she performed and danced the whole performance (or at least tried).
16I've lost a whole lot of respect for Vanity Fair now.
17She sends mass emails saying pray for Tony LOL. What a loser.
If I got those it would be an automatic delete.
18her lies always catch up to her.Last year it was ,whoever she dates better get used to her talking to nick, blah, blah, blah. Now it's ,she hasn't talked to him in years.LIE AFTER LIE,what a loser and I'd bet anything her so called empire is nowhere near what they say it is.Would you play bingo halls or next to SHAMU this weekend at SEAWORLD ,to boos if you were that rich?RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!
19did anyone catch the "i was always third runner up" comment when being compared to britney and christina...umm, wouldn't that make you second runner up...time for her to take a celebrity hiatus before she has no fans left
20LOVE Jessica! Can't wait to buy Vanity Fair.
About the dancing part, she was refering to her FIRST single, you fool. It was a ballad.
21Her Jessica Simpson Collection is worth $400-MILLION. Yup, she definitely deserves the cover of VF!!
22Maybe the fashion line will wise up and quit paying her for her name. If the collection is really selling bearing this repugnant thing's name, it could be called "Booger" for free and sell just as much (maybe more).
Then Vanity Fair could put a giant photoshopped booger on it's cover and get the same response it gets with a photoshopped Jessica Simpson cover.
