Angelina may actually be failing at something. The powerhouse was paid a reported $12 million to star in the St. John campaign but apparently the core customers of the brand feel like they are purposely trying to get rid of them. They feel alienated by the Jolie ads and they think it's "silly" that she is the new spokesperson. One ex-customer said, "I think Angelina Jolie is tacky. St. John is elegant." Damn. As for St. John, they are pleased with Jolie and have no plans to replace her.

Wow...personally, tacky is the last word I'd use to describe Angie.

Since Anjie has modeled for them I have scooted over to there section of the store without Anjie I honestly would have never looked twice! Maybe they need to stop making old fuddy duddy clothes! 21She's 2 pounds. She doesn't look healthy, she looks like a bobble head. Middle America, as you say, is not bitter, it's just sick of another skinny lip queen in their faces every five seconds. She adopted two kids, and is constantly after the cameras to follow her to "desparate" places all over the world. Good for her, but that doesn't mean people are interested in her, and it doesn't mean she's wonderful. There are those out there who are constantly doing good, not just because it suits them in a fit of PR.

28St. John makes very expensive knit suits, dresses, etc. The average Mangelina fan cannot afford St. John clothes and Mangelina doesn't represent the typical St. John customer who is typically old money and dresses conservatively and lives a low key lifestyle. They are not publicity hos like Mangie.

St. John's picked Angi to model b/c they wanted to expand thier customer based from the rich middle aged women they usually cater to. For some bich to say that she is tacky is ridiculous, she is prolly the classiest person out there. St. John's is lucky she's working for them! besides, who gives a damn what some boring close minded middle aged rich b*tch thinks...obviously not St. John's...I bet there business is way up now that she's thier model
38Maybe some of you should actually read the article linked to. St John has a base of customers: older, professional, wealthy (lots of old money). Their current campaign was incredibly UNsuccessful and cost the company a lot of money and customers, not just the one or two they interviewed. They miscalculated, thinking that they could sway a lot of younger customers to the St John label by scuttling their standards and creating an entire new line for an entire new customer. They realized their error. You don't dump your entire customer base in favor of a younger demographic. That rarely works. You insert some newer "younger" styles slowly and integrate them into the portfolio. They now are going BACK to their old styles, and making the newer styles a smaller part of their entire line. And I really doubt that the person who called Angelina tacky is "jealous." Not everyone who doesn't like someone or finds them tacky is jealous. I hate that almost as much as I hate the word "haters."
Personally, I think the ads with Angelina are beautiful, tasteful, and classy. But they are not for the St John that catered to the wealthy older professionals. I don;t think they should fire her, but I think they should use her for the "younger" styles and maybe get a Lauren Hutton type for the classic styles.
St John is a California based company, by the way, not British.
