Evangeline Lilly has ruffled a few feathers with comments she made in the June issue of Women's Health. Evangeline cited Angelina as a role model for keeping her personality private, telling the magazine, "No one knows that woman; she's a complete ice queen, which is perfect . . . Why should she be any more? She doesn't owe us anything." She also said,
"Sure, I'd love to be her, but just the [humanitarian] side." It was all presumably meant to be a compliment, but at the same time, it seems a bit harsh. So, tell us — were her comments snub or sweet?

It doesn't sound like she meant it to be a snub since all her other words are complimentary. It seems that she likes the fact that Jolie can hide her feelings from the press.
1I agree. Angie doesn't owe us anything except a good movie when she's in it. Wait, who is this again? What movie is she in?
2agreed - there seems to be more of an emphasis on a regal nature because the assumed iciness seems to fall away from the discussion when evangeline alludes to her humanitarian works and from what we all know about the significance of her own family..
3This entry is phrased it like we should all think it was a snub.
4It's interesting though that she's comparing herself to Angie who does movies whereas Evangeline is mostly t.v. I don't know, but has she been compared to Angelina in the past? Wasn't Evangeline the actress who also complained about her beauty getting in the way of her career? I think my brain is over-fried with celebrities at the moment. I may need a holiday.
5she obviously meant this as a compliment, it is being read WAY into.
6nope. no snub. no story here.
7I don't think it was a snub. Who really cares if it was a snub anyways, she is right!
8who is she anyway?
9I don't know, the second quote "Sure, I'd love to be her, but just the [humanitarian] side." doesn't sound very nice. But I admit I'm bias, I've always thought she was too full of herself. Still haven't forgotten when she said she used to wish she was uglier so men wouldn't hit on her so much (or something like that). Please.
10It does sound like kind of a snub, but she is actually right. Angelina can be an ice queen, but I think it has more to do with being uncomfortable in the public eye than anything else.
I can't stand Evangeline Lilly though. She comes off as b*tchy in the rest of the interview. It's aggravating that she complains about fame and how she refuses to do movie roles because she doesn't want publicity, yet she is doing an interview & magazine spread and has nothing to promote? Ok then.
11I don't know, that quote has a Mean Girls vibe to it, the comments are small insults with backpedalling, but it's not anything to overreact about. Maybe she just wants some attention.
12I don't think it was a snub.
13Evangelline is kinda of right, but maybe she should've phrased better, I don't know
But like californiagirl said, I don't really like her, she always comes across as b*tchy.
14I think that Pop is seeing drama when there is any.
This post discarded the parts where Lilly talks about her dislike of fame and dealing with the paparazzi.
Here's the excerpt from People:
Lost star Evangeline Lilly doesn't want mega-stardom, but if she had to become a Hollywood A-lister, she'd want to do it like – who else? – Angelina Jolie, she says.
"No one knows that woman; she's a complete ice queen, which is perfect," the intensely private Lilly tells Women's Health in the June issue. "Why should she be any more? She doesn't owe us anything."
Lilly, who says she's frequently berated by a colleague on ABC's island drama for forgoing chances at becoming Hollywood's next big thing, says if she had to have Jolie's life, she'd choose only one half of it: the charity work.
"Sure, I'd love to be her, but just the [humanitarian] side," Lilly says.
She likes how Jolie is elusive and she enjoy more the idea of being a humanitarian (which she plans to do after filming Lost) than being a mega movie star.
That's all there was in this interview.
15not sure if you could call it snubbing but it def is a backhand compliment...and absolutely not insulting 'cos everything she said is true.
i, especially, like the last sentence, "sure, i'd love to be her, but just the [humanitarian] side." hahahahaha so meaningful! ILOVE!
at least, she's basically saying she's not interested in brad pitt. jolie can sleep well and breathe easy with that thought lol.
16I don't think it is meant as an insult at all. I took ice queen to mean private and as for the "humanitarian side", I think this is her way of saying she would not want that much fame, that much intrusion into her private life.
17I thought she meant having so many kids and dealing with the whole Jennifer Aniston neverending story part of Angelina's life. I again agree. Who in their right mind would choose that? Besides Octomom....whatever.
18BTW, who is she?
This has something:
19"Sure, I'd love to be her, but just the [humanitarian] side."
i get that she's a great humanitarian and all that but really GET OVER YOURSELF! I find her to be more annoying each passing day.
20I don't think it was a snob she just seem to have a strange way of making a statement. I think she just wanted an excuse to bring up Angelina's name for the extra attention it would bring. So it sure has brought attention even from the people that hate Angelina. Wonder is CAA her pr team.
21To bad stars can't rely on their own talent.
I don't know how anyone can think Angelina is an ice queen. I am little confused on that whole reference. I have never seen Angelina as icy at all. Angelina is strong and she will say exactly what she feels or if she doesn't wanna say something about something she won't say it. How on earth does that make you icy? I think this Evangeline person is a moron. I mean has this moron ever heard the term "ice queen" in used a positive manner? I haven't. Ms. Lilly should have explained herself better. What a freaking moron. I don't know what Ms. Lily was trying to do but the woman appears to be no brighter than half the idiot actress "trying to make it" in Hollywood...what a lame.
22I'd have to hear the tone of voice and context she said it in, but it doesn't sound that bad. It does sound wrong, however. Angelina shares a great deal of information about her private life (far more than Evangeline), and although she sometimes seem distracted or uncomfortable in media interviews, she also seems very warm and gracious in other interviews/speeches (such as those related to her humanitarian work).
23It's a right-on assessment of Angelina, so what's the big deal?
24I don't think Angelina's an ice queen either. I think she's pretty open, all things considered.
I don't think the quote itself is a snub or a compliment. I think it's just Evangeline Lily being her usual airheaded self.
25I have had enough of these hollywood imoral sluts like Angie, Jenny and now this woman. She appears to touching herself in this photo.
26i would not have thought anything of it if it wasn't brought up like this. but she's probably saying she doesn't want to be compared to her, she just wants to be known for her own work, but if she WAS, then it'd be for the good humanitarian work she's done. she probably doesn't want to be known the way angelina is known.
27.......was she compared to her or something?? now i am just confused thinking about the whole thing hahah
Sourcherry Angelina has never said that...I think your thinking of Megan Fox.
28Well, she could be an ice queen (in a bad way) sometimes. Don't blame her though.. the woman can't even go for ice-cream without being recognized, photographed and asked for an autograph or something!
Having said that, the comment is completely untrue. She shares way too much information about her family and her past. Celebrities who don't divulge much include Johnny Depp, Matt Damon, Will Smith, Julia Roberts...
29She's trying to be nice in the interview but its obvious what she really thinks of Angelina.
30just because angelina doesnt suck up to all the media aka oprah, and other media shows!
31people presume shes an ice queen so what if she is!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a bad pic of the usually beautiful Evangeline!
32I too don't think she meant it as in insult as no one in their right mind would dare speak against Angie and mess with her crazed legion of fans (Love Angelina are you sticking pins in an Evangeline doll by now lol?)
If she thinks that Angie is private and keeps herself to herself than I can only assume that it's because she spends the majority of the time filing in a remote part of Hawaii. Quick, someone give her a copy of W magazine with Angie breastfeeding!
She's just stating the obvious. Because angie IS a ice queen. And she indeed doesn't owe us anything.
33Haha Jengal ummm no. I gave up Voodoo along time ago. I might put a hex on her though. I am a Wiccan now.
(JOKING^^^^)
Evangeline Lily is an idiot plain and simple. I mean if she was trying to insult Angelina just do it out right and if she was trying to compliment her then the phrase "ice queen" is clearly never been used in a complementary way and she knows it. She should have thought before she spoke.
34Haven't you ever heard of "creative editing" in the magazine bizz? Just because words are in print, doesn't mean they came out of her mouth. What sounds more titillating/scandalous: the "ice queen" remark or "she's enigmatic..."?
35-
Unless it's a "live" interview (Charlie Rose, Ellen, etc) & I hear it from the celebrity's mouth... Then & ONLY THEN will I question the "offensiveness" of said remarks. And only because of the content. In the end, it's nothing to do with us but between those INVOLVED.
I think Evangeline is right on with her comments. If the journalist is steering you towards the question if you would like to be like the Hollywood "leading lady" Jolie how can you respond while keeping some integrity and without burning any bridges? You try to find something you admire in that person or their life and state that.
Evangeline Lily is the female leading role in the series "Lost" for the person here who keeps on asking. Maybe she was just being sarcastic, but here you go. She gets to play some real steamy scenes with Josh Holloway. I'm a little jealous.
36when you read the full article that someone posted, it makes much more sense. i don't think she was being insulting. it could have been phrased better. but angie DOES have an icey persona when she's in public....i'm sure i would too!
37I read this and was like, "okay, she doesn't want to be Angelina." Fair enough.
38I love her!
39LOVE ANGELINA, I think Sourcherry (comment # 10) was referring to Evangeline Lilly.
40*I mean, she was saying Evangeline Lilly was the one who wished to be uglier so men wouldn't hit on her.
41whaaatever...it was a backhanded compliment, but who cares...being an ice princess isn't bad imo, I'm one so I know it lol
42pardon "ice queen"..haven't hit queen status yet, I'll take princess
43Not a snub
44Just another TV actress trying to get her name out there, despite what she says to the contrary.
45It's hard to tell unless you actually heard her voice when she said it. Also the way she answered the question may have a lot to do with the way they asked the question. The press is always trying to pit (haha no pun intended) against Angie. As if she in anti woman or as if all women are jealous of other beautiful successful women like we are a bunch of petty hags or something. I don't give much credit to magazine interviews ore hold most celebrities to them.
46"but she's probably saying she doesn't want to be compared to her"
Which would make sense if anyone was comparing Evangeline to Angelina, but they weren't. SHE was the one who brought her up.
I agree that for all her claims to the contrary, she wants to be in the news, so she used the biggest name that came to mind in order to ensure it made headlines.
47I've read the whole article in Women's Health (I'm a subscriber) and the statements above are just snippets of what was said that make is SEEM like she's trying to snub Angie. In the full context (like what was posted from People), she's saying she doesn't want to be too famous/caught up in the insanity, which is something Evangeline has reiterated on a number of talk show appearances as well. I'm not a huge fan of Evie's--she does often come across as being full of herself--but this statement is completely being taken out of context.
48it's obvious she didnt mean it as hateful. I think when people are wanting to be hateful, it's VERY clear that want to be..
49It was kind of a backhanded compliment, but I think that it is completely right. It was her opinion of Angelina and she shouldn't be faulted for it. She worked a compliment in there!
