Madonna's adoption appeal for Mercy James was approved early this morning by Malawi's Supreme Court. The judge ruled that her initial denial by the lower court was based on an old law, and that although she hasn't lived in the country for 18 months the court should have taken her philanthropic efforts in the community into account.
Madonna's lawyer said she was "ecstatic" when she heard the news that the adoption was finalized. Plans for Mercy to fly to the States via private jet are already being made, once her passport is in order. This process has been a controversial one for the singer, but now Madonna, Lourdes, Rocco, and David can prepare to welcome their new daughter and sister with lots of love.

Boo who cares Madonna gets whatever she wants it was only a matter of time before this came through for her.
If Madonna wants to adopt this girl so badly, why isn't she taking the time to fly to Malawi to pick her up? I find it ridiculous that she is not flying over herslef; the little girl is going to be scared and nervous and Madonna should be there to help ease her fears. I guess since a nanny will most likely raise her, they may as well meet now! The girl's life will be better, but that's not to say she'll have a great mother.
I think its great, so many children in this world need homes and parents who will love them and take care of them.
This little girl will have gone from nothing to having everything she could possibly want, but love is the most important thing a child needs, and I'm sure she will have lots of it!
She is way too old to be adopting this child.
well i think that the little girl is going to have a better life - she'll have health care and education and that's something that she would not have had in malawi. it's a shame that there's still so much talk about the father in this - given that he didn't even know that he had the little girl and didn't work to take her out of the orphanage when he found her....i guess madonna's home would be the best place for her.
Mercy lives in an orphanage, so I'm sure she'll have a better life with Madonna.
A better life with Madonna? Yea, whatever.
Well, I think we all knew that Madonna would get her way eventually. It makes me laugh though that she's not even flying to Africa to pick Mercy up. And Mercy arrives in Madonna's life in just enough time to be handed off to a nanny while she heads out on her Sticky and Sweet European tour.
Her kids do look happy and well taken care of. Congrats.
This is great news for Mercy, she will not have a care in the world. I know she'll be very happy and adjust to her wonderful new family.
Money does buy pretty much everything. Madonna makes me sick.
I'm happy for both
Why do Americans assume that money always = better life. I understand that poverty is not ideal, but it isn't like there arent wealthy people that live in misery and lonliness
Honestly i am sick of her... but... @ least that's one thing she's doing good -- making someone's life a little better... I REALLY DO HOPE SHE'S A GOOD MOTHER TO HER KIDS @ LEAST.
I am thrilled. Mercy is gonna have a much better life now.
Ps madonna you arent angelina. just fyi.
Happy for Madonna and Mercy!
Madonna: ruining one foreign child's life at a time...
she's way too self-absorbed to have any children
Good. I am very happy about this situation. However - FLY TO MALAWI AND PICK THE GIRL UP YOURSELF, MADONNA. That's so strange.
Vadge is such a beeotch, she probably doesn't even want the kid anymore
Her kids are happy and well-mannered children and this little girl will be no different. I am glad for Mercy, she now will have a forever family and a chance at a great life rather than a life expectancy of 20 (as it will be in Malawi by 2010) and the possibility of dying before she reaches adulthood. Nobody knows for sure who is picking her or who is accompanying her on her trip, so can we please stop judging? People hate Madonna and then transfer those feelings onto her children, so sad.
