Angelina Jolie took the podium in Washington DC today at the 2009 World Refugee Day at National Geographic Society. She arrived in the capital early this morning with Maddox and Pax before speaking out. The subject matter is obviously one that's very close to Angie's heart, and she got a little teary as images showed on the screen behind her. This is just the start of an important day for Angelina, who continues to show her dedication to philanthropy year after year.
Lots more of Angelina so read more.

Beautiful inside and out. We love you Angie for your great effort don't give up in trying to make a change in this sad world we live in today.
1Angelina is so amazing. My heart breaks for these kids and families. I could imagine the feelings Angelina must have seeing these families and children up close. Listening to their stories.
2It's soo good to see her slowly putting on some weight and smiling.
3I should point out, however, that if not for the little detour in Swkpmund, the nasty little encounter with the hartebeest might have been avoided and I wouldn't be stuck with a ripoff repair bill at the moment...
This is coming out of your allowance Shiloh!!!
4UGLY...yeah i said it!!!!
5"UGLY...yeah i said it!!!! " and so what you want a prize?
6i have to get a little ill when people think that she's 'sooooo amazing' ...i think that she does good things to support charities etc...but that's not enough to make her soooo amazing. oh well. that's just my opinion.
7Inside your heart you know she is not ugly. J*E*A*L*O*U*S*Y KILLS!Be embarrassed.
8Her best acting performance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
9She looks beat here
10And now that you said it does it change anything or take away her Beauty and make make u as pretty as her??. NOPE! I don't think so.
11I don't see the people who say she is "Ugly" doing anything to help others. What is your problem? She is the most beautiful woman inside and out. Don't forget, you don't know her at all, neither do I. Try having six kids, a partner, a full-time job, and tirelessly giving yourself to others. She is amazing and you know it.
12i think she's just a person with lot of money. lots of people would suppport causes if they had a million to give. i also get disturbed when people say she's so amazing, she just has really good pr people working for her. needless to say, i think its wonderful when people give to charities that champion rights like this
13you know i really loved angelina and the work she did, and she took up these causes before it became fashionable to do so, but ever since she became brangelina it just doesnt seem authentic, i dont know why.. i still think its great that she gives all this money and takes out her time, and while earlier i believed her tears were genuine, now i just think she is an actress.. her work is noble but by no means saintly, there are many celebs, and non-celebs who donate a great deal too

--------
You should take your own advice. Since you don't know her, how do you know she is beautiful on the inside? To me she seems like a self-aggrandizing, little twat. Btw, with a team of nannies and $100 million dollars I could have six kids too and tirelessly give myself to others.
15Angie is an amazing woman.
16Fortunately for the refugees and people in need who she works for and donates to, I don't think Angelina cares what the general public thinks. Most people who have worked with similar humanitarian causes will tell you that it's some of the most compelling, heartbreaking and fulfilling stuff you can do.
It's very grounding, and to have scads of people on the fringe picking apart your looks, clothes, personal life, etc. while doing this work is just a reminder at how shallow and meaningless most of those things are.
17I always find it funny when people say she has really good Pr people. Angelina is the ONLY A list star that doesn't use a Publicist or Agent. She handles her own Pr. Lmao! I don't understand why it's so hard to believe that she's genuine especially after she's been committed for a solid 8 years. You don't fake that. At least she didn't wait to get involved until her 40s like her baby daddy. Angelina has been doing this since her mid 20s. Brad Pitt is a follower!
18it's good that she's using her celebrity status to help people in need, with that said i think she has a good heart but i'm not going to go as far as calling her amazing or put her on a pedestal.many people with money do it everyday without it being reported or being called amazing, like Warren Buffet,Bill Gates,or even Roger Federer.but it's good that she's bringing awareness about it.
19she looks terrible, anorexic and ugly. sorry, just my opinion

I agree 100%!!!
21I completely agree with you, Ginger.
22Is it jealousy or insecurity that makes people hate on this women when she's trying to do so much good in this world? She could go to a gala dinner and wear a T shirt if she were just into this for PR, as opposed to risking her life in Sierra Leone, Chad, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, etc. I understand Pitt's ex and her PR machine have built up this rivalry "team" garbage to keep the Ex relevant, but it still amazes me how many people fall for it.
23I am sure other rich people donate too. They just don't make a big production out of it like the publicity wh*re.
24You can say all bad things about her if you want but you can't deny the fact that she's is good person. She has donated not only her money but also her time to help these people around the world. I know a lot of A-list has been very generous towards these humanitarian causes but Angelina got involved in these causes for years and every year she would attend important conferences. She is an inspiration!
25i think it's great that she is bringing awareness to these causes...it's funny how people hate on her so much. it doesnt really matter what she does.
26People STOP saying she is a good person. She is far from a good person. Good people do not get involved with other women's husbands/boyfriends. And people stop -- stop miminize it. A good person would not and does not go there! And justifying it for her makes you just as ugly as she is. She can give to all the charities and take up all the causes she wants it is not going to change the things she has done. Why can't she do any charity work without a camera in her face? ... And other celebs do visit other countries they just do not have to be on camera to prove or should I say convience the whole world that they are a good person. I am not buying it, but I am glad the charities are getting her money.
27The petty little gnats are buzzing. Just can't let go of the tabloid stories to look at the bigger picture here.
28So , she's a bad person because Brad Pitt decided that he wanted to be with her instead of whatsherface? Why not Blame Brad for that? I'm sorry but I don't feel bad for millionaire jennifer aniston. The people Angelina is trying to help have been through some real sh*t bigger than a hollywood divorce... Those are the people I feel for.
29Why is it such a big deal if there are people who think and believe that AJ is a good person? What is it to you anyway? You aren't Aniston, are you?
30Ohh! Maybe I should have also mentioned that Brad Pitt has an ugly soul too. He is no better. Okay, by the rational by some people on here I think I am going to go out and sleep with a married man, but do not worry I will give a lot of money to charity. That will make everything okay. I have a lot of money so do not worry about me because money is everything...screw marriage...I have money so it is okay. Stupid people. JA husband is not the only one that Jolie screwed.
31Why are people still talking about Jennifer A. and Brad being together. The man made his final choice and it wasn't her. Jennifer Aniston is NOT suffering over this man. The only people that keep bringing them up is the media and public, they don't seem to want to talk about the old days. Let it go people!
Now about Angelina Jolie........I like Angie, but still, isn't this the woman that bought her child a diamond studded pacifer...yeap, it IS. She could have given that $17,000 to the Refugees. I bet Angelina Jolie will NEVER mention that one to those poor refugees that she supposedly cares so much about in the media.
HERE IS THE LINK to one of those articles

32The Brangeloonies are ridiculous. criticizing people who read "taloid stories" about brangelina, when they are on a gossip site hating on other celebs and criticizing them on how they look. LMFAO..the hypocrisy is hilarious!!!!!!

Again, I like Angelina but she not a person that should be praised tooo much.
34It could be 15 years after the fact and AnustonFanatics will still bring up the breakup. It's been said and I'll say it again - get over it! This is not what this post is about. Can you for a second think about the refugees and wonder that in this world of excess that we live in today there are still millions of displaced, hungry, impoverished people? My heart goes out tot them.
35Well, he ll yeah a $17,000 diamond studded pacifier is excessive, but at least it's for her baby. Not like a $50,000 hair blowout by ahem, someone else who I won't mention. Fact is celebrities are RICH. They will SPEND money like you and I can only dream of doing. Don't expect them to go to Kmart or Walgreens for their daily supplies. They're not perfect and never will be. But it is nice to read that they give back and care about certain causes. I think that's what this post is originally about, yeah?
36There is, I don't know, nothing that supports the pacifier story. It doesn't seem like something Angelina would buy, but more something she'd get as a gift from some brand that wants to pimp their pacifiers. And I don't necessarily think she'd accept it.
37im glad she trys to help..and then drives off in her $100.000 car to one of her various estates to figure out which designer outfit to wear to her movie premire..
38Charity is publicity. Say no more. I hope the end justifies the means.
39JessieSP: She didn't buy her baby a diamond pacifier. In an effort to get media attention by association, the maker of the pacifier told the press they intended to give Jolie the pacifier. I'm sure the media hos were happy to include photos for the press. But has anyone reported if the gift was actually given, accepted, or ever seen with a Jolie baby?
"It's a solid, white-gold pacifier, with 279 diamonds. The whole front of it is covered basically with diamonds, three-carat plus," Mathis Riiber, a founder of Itsmybinky.com, told AFP.
Riiber said the pricey aide was originally made for Donald Trump's baby, and he claimed that he will gift the pacifier to Jolie and Pitt in the next couple of weeks on a television show.
The company offers customized pacifiers of colored diamonds for high-end customers.
She has often said she gives about a 1/3 of her money to charity. Another 1/3 probably goes to taxes, so in the 1/3 she has left, she probably does buy a few luxuries--although apparently not a diamond pacifier. Is she expected to give everything to charity and live in a grass hut?
40Why do people dislike Angelina? Let's see: first and foremost, it is because of her fans. Anytime anyone even mentions her name without blind admiration and with the slightest bit of healthy critique it is right away called "hater' by an army of her loyal defenders. The same people who call Sienna Miller w@@re because she slept with a married man think AJ is a saint and it's all Jen Aniston fault who's btw ugly and manly looking.
41Second of all, charity starts at home. AJ should first make peace with her own father without whom she would not be who she's today (fame+money) and then she go ahead and talk about world peace.
Third of all, friend of my family spent one year living with refugees in Burma. She left her career here in US and went to help any way she could. She's a medical professional. btw. But you will not hear her toot her own horn and believe me, what's done has much higher value than alleged millions Jolie gives to charities.
Let's not forget how hard she had to work to make all that money.
Selling pictures of her twins is just one example.
So yeah, if anybody ever wonders why oh why we bad and stupid people dislike her, here it is.
Finally, if I had
cont.
42If I had her money, I'd donating it too. Plain and simple.
loveshahrukh, I completely agree! For some reason, what she does now doesn't seem as genuine as before. But maybe I'm saying this because she has become a little annoying to me since Brad...
43Anyway, there's no denying she does a lot of good, I still admire her for that...
Blaming the fans for disliking Angelina is insane. Dislike her for her not her fans. I don't think you are going to find much fault there, so that comment does not fly. Remember this is not about the actor Angelina Jolie this about an UN ambassador who happens to be an actor. Did you know Giorgio Armani is also an UN Ambassador as well? I have never seeing or heard him speaking on behalf of anything. If Angelina can promote awareness what is wrong with that? People certainly will not listen to me or any of you. Bring her on and let the animosity go. She must have a very good reason not to speak with her father. It is her reason not ours. Don't lift rocks to find excuses not to admire this woman is just petty and small. You also do not have to comment here that would solve some of your problem.
Hi Ginger!!!
44As UN Ambassador, it's her job to help bring attention to these issues. That is not "tooting her own horn". Audrey Hepburn did this for years for UNICEIF, and while living with Robert Wolders, who she was involved with for two years before she bothered to divorce her husband, but nobody calls Audrey Hepburn a home wrecking slut and media ho.
I agree it would be nice if the issues between Jolie and her father could be resolved. Did Aniston started talking to her mother again after she divorced Brad? Jennifer's mom wasn't invited to the wedding and I'm not sure if she ever even met Brad. (Usually I do not like to bring up Aniston in a Jolie or Pitt thread, but since that door was opened already...)
Hi Sandy Feet.
45#42 "this is not about the actor Angelina Jolie this about an UN ambassador who happens to be an actor. " Really???? LMFAO!!!
46She would never be ambassador if :a. she was not Jon Voigt daughter and b. if she was not popular and in movies.
Why don't you ask yourself if an average person no matter how giving could become un amabssador. See my point? Probably not, you must be blinded by her inner beauty and therefore unable to see the reality.
Ginger, you are dropping some serious truths right here! I don't get it - so what if she spent $17,000 on a pacifier? To be wealthy means that you can do both: buy whatever you want and still be able to make others needs a priority. I don't mean to be rude to others perspectives and beliefs as they're all valuable, but generally speaking, the argument that she can't be a hero because she's a "homewrecker" (and even that's debatable; why doesn't Brad garner more of the blame?!!!) demonstrates that we tend to dichotomize all behavior in black and white. People are more complex than that. Being a "homewrecker" and being a champion of refugee rights is not mutually exclusive. You can do both things and fully embody one aspect without negating the other. That's what it means to be human. So if she, like Audrey Hepburn and a host of women who have gone before her, is a "homewrecker," can she still not be honored for the good work that she does?? Does that take away from what she's accomplished on behalf of vulnerable populations?
47#44 I believe you are mistaken she was not approached because she is John Voight's daughter. The average person can not be a Goodwill Ambassador. There are no applications. You must be politically connected in order to be approached. You must have knowledge of cultures and language of the people you are trying to help. They, the UN, extended an invitation to Angelina. NOT because of her beauty or talent those had nothing to do with it. Personally, I really don't see your point at all and the only one blind here it is you.
48Lovely
49I totally agree with gradschooldiva. (Personally, I can't imagine that she'd spend $17,000 on a stupid pacifier. Oh well...) I still have NO clue why Angelina's taking all the blame, because Brad left Jennifer.
