A man was arrested yesterday for posing as a federal agent in an attempt to get a job on Brad and Angelina's security team. The U.S. Secret Service was brought out for the arrest. Seriously, did this guy think he would get away with screwing with one of the most powerful Hollywood couples? TMZ reports:
A would-be "security consultant" was arrested today for allegedly impersonating a federal agent in order to try to secure the job of being a bodyguard for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Nelson Mercado, 46, of Torrance, Calif., is accused of telling Sunset Protective Services and Investigations that he was a special agent for the Department of Homeland Security and is also accused of specifically seeking "the security contract and hourly payment to provide security services" for Brangelina, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office in LA.
Mercado is also accused of using fake credentials and a "fraudulently registered" Ford Crown Victoria with tinted windows and a police light package. He was arrested today by Secret Service agents and, if convicted, faces a maximum penalty of three years in federal prison

27I like Brad and AJ too. I think they make a beautiful couple. I admire all that they do for those in need. They are both great actors. Their kids, adopted and natural, are cute as buttons.
However, I don't understand why the Secret Service had to get involved. Isn't this organization meant to protect our President, Heads of State, and foreign dignitaries? Not...as wonderful people as they are...a pair of actors? Why wasn't this a police or FBI matter? I think the love this country has for celebrities is getting wayyyy out of control. I'm assuming...correct me if I'm wrong...that the Secret Service is a government agency, and therefore my taxes are involved in whatever service they provide. And I don't like the idea that my taxes are going into protecting movie stars.

35Skye - The Secret Service is always involved with people impersonating federal agents. They also deal with counterfeiters. They have a bigger job than just bodyguards.
And it doesn't sound like the Secret Service was protecting them, they just investigated the guy impersonating a federal agent.
36Whatever the case... poor people have so much drama in their lives.
37You know what? A co-worker just told me that AJ is not just an actress, she is an ambassador for the UN. Therefore, the Secret Service can be called in to protect her. Ok, now I'm not so mad. Because really, if the Secret Services can be called in for actors...what next? Paris calling them in case her chihuahua goes missing again?

Is the SS protecting them? I got from the article that they just got involved because of the whack-job impersonating himself as a federal agent.
40From the article, it says the firm this man applied to contacted authorities, and the Secret Service investigated. That's the extent of their involvement as far as I can tell.
41yeah, the Federal gov't gets pretty sh*tty when folks go around pretending to be an agent. I don't think the Secret Service is acttually protecting them
42Yes, I suppose since the guy was trying to impersonate a Homeland Security agent, and not just a regular old federal agent. That is serious stuff.
