Mercy arrived in London from Malawi via private jet just in time to join her family for Kabbalah services on Saturday in London. Even Guy Ritchie helped welcome Madonna's new addition before taking Rocco and David for the weekend. Mercy looked adorable in her pink dress outside of Madonna's apartment yesterday morning, though she's understandably a little confused by all of the attention. Hopefully, it won't be long before she settles into her new life, starting with some bonding time with her mom and sister.

The ever popular adopting a black baby fad is in full swing again. Sorry, if others don't
feel the same...but thats what I think.
1i just wonder how they all communicate given that she's 3 and i can't imagine that she knows english. i hope that she's adapting well - i also wonder if she knows what's going on...she's old enough to get it but does it make sense?
2i realize the child will have a very priviledged life (which to some of you is all that matters) but immediately indoctrinating her into that kabbalah nonsense is ridiculous.
3To the number one comment its not a fad, its people wanting to give a child a home. If she were white or Asian or other race what difference would that make? Zero. She was an orphan needing a home. She is adorable and I don't think she being indoctrinated in to Kabbalah if her adoptive mother was Catholic thats how she would be raised. So I am sorry if that bothers people.
4Sure adopting female Asian babies was a fad too not to long ago...the ethnicities of adoptive babies comes in waves, and little African babies are whats "in" right now.
5@Love Angelina: Though he/she didn't phrase the statement correctly, I think what the first commenter is trying to point out is that it is in fact a trend to adopt children of a race other than your own. I myself am bi-racial and certainly had my own identity issues growing up as a result (not to say that I am not proud to be multi-ethnic!).
From my experience, it's difficult enough to blend an adopted child into a family when he or she is a baby. But, blending a 3 year old, who has started to develop logical thought processes, can speak, etc is all the more difficult, especially when the child is of a different race to the rest of the family. I really hope Madonna has a good support system that is advising her in how to introduce her daughter into the family without leaving the child feeling alienated and alone.
Anyway, I think that the reason that Mercy is "looking confused" is probably because she has just been ripped from her home is is being shuffled around by a group that does not include her new mother. That is just irresponsible. I'm okay with Madonna illegally adopting and probably bribing the tribunal that approved the adoption, but be a mother for once! She didn't even fly to Malawi to pick up the child herself. I think that this shows a new level of neglect not seen before.
6Wow her kids are growing up.I dont respect Madonna at all and Im a big Downey Jr.fan but the trailer made me a bit nervous about the Sherlock Holmes movie.Director Guy Ritchie's style does not fit Sherlock Holmes world at all but that's just me.
7The whole situation makes me soooooooo uncomfortable.
8@ Msmoney23 Thats a ridulous statement. Its not trend or fad to give a child a home. China I think recently made adoption very difficult I think but the main reason you see more children from a certain country is there number of unwanted or parentless children are very high. Africa is being ravaged by disease, AIDS mainly. The parents are poor and they give these children to orphanages. Its not a fad, a parent wants a child, a person wants to give back and be a parent, and there is no greater way to give back then adopting children like Mercy and David. So I am offended when I here jokes about adopting a child, black or otherwise as a fad. I mean please give a break. The child is homeless, parents are dead or sick, they barely eat, and you can think is "Oh she adopted a black child, it's a trend, a fad." That is not true.
@Asche I am sorry you struggled with your identity. However you don't live in a one race world and even though there will be some issues with race, I think Madonna has done a great job with David and I have faith she will do well with Mercy. No matter if she is 3 or not. Children can be surprisingly resilient and I am sure she will adjust to her new life. Also Mercy didn't have a home, she was living an orphanage. Thats where she lived but that by no means is a home. Mercy is gaining a family and thats something I can guarantee benefits us all and will benefit her. If Madonna couldn't pick her up thats ok, Madonna and Mercy have spent time together before. Anyway she is with Madonna now, her mother.
9Oh please! have you visited Africa before? The media is determined to portray an Africa people like you want to see. Sure there is poverty beyond belief, but people have swallowed this treatment of Africans too easily. We are not ALL ravaged by disease or suffering from AIDS...instead of adopting that child, she should have given money to the village or to her family to build up Mercy's and other young children's environments. Seriously, we don't always need rich white celebrities to "save" us...what Africans need is money and proper management.
10Additionally, a black child being brought up in a primarily white surrounding will ALWAYS have issues with identity. No matter how much kindness, understanding, and counseling there is, it will be difficult for Mercy and David to relate to their parents. I have no problem with IR adoptions, but everything isn't peaches and cream.
Although being born in Africa and having supportive parents, I had a very difficult time in accepting who I was in a primarily white neighbourhood and school when I was growing up. It took me years to really embrace my colour and my features as a strong African woman, and Mercy no doubt will have to face the same thing. Hollywood isn't as accepting as you may think it is.
11LOVE ANGELINA, get serious. When one country cracks down on adoption, another opens up--not because the children so desperately need it, but because you can cater to the needs of white Westerners. And yes, it's about the white Westerners, not the adoptees. There are rampant stories of children being sold for adoption, being kidnapped from parents, etc. When the government of that country becomes aware of it, they crack down with harsher laws, and the would-be adopters go to another, less regulated country. Ethiopia is a hot spot now--soon it will be someplace else.
And Africa is not all poverty and AIDS, and exporting the next generation certainly isn't going to solve the continent's problems. If Madonna loves Malawi so much, she could have invested in infrastructure in these villages that would have enabled these children to be raised in their own families and cultures.
12People should adopt whoever the heck they want...I think Africa has always seemed like they have the most orphans and people living in poverty when in fact the middle of America is full of underprivileged people/kids...my mom and I took a summer and drove across the country (NY to Cali) and some things we saw were horrible and heartbreaking...being from the NYC area, I was so blinded by the way my family and I lived and thought all of America is middle/upper class...someone like Madonna is probably enjoying the media but ultimately, I think the kid may have a better life
13Well said Love Angelina. I am so sick of all the negative spins being placed on adoption simply because a few celebs people don't like are adopting suddenly they forget that it's a good thing that someone wants these children, regardless of race, and can provide them with a life that they couldn't even have dreamed of before.
Any adoption that gives a kid a better and happier life than is currently projected for them is a good one.
14PS - I'm black and I think as long as you give the kid enough background of who they are where they came from, it's all good...I love mixed families, mine is full of nationalities which makes us awesome
15Sorry for the run-on sentence.
16What about our foster children? they need a family too.
17Love Angelina is deranged if she thinks Vadge is going to raise Mercy as Catholic. She has fully indoctrinated her other children into that kaballah crap and is very anti-catholic.
18American parents have adopted thousand of children from another countries .. why NOT american childrens in need?
19Madonna es una vieja estupidaaaaaaa
20Who cares where the kids are from? Why should that matter in an adoption? Which country in your estimation is adoption worthy?
21I think its great! Madonna wanted another child so she adopted one. It doesn't matter whether the child is white, black, Asian or any other race, the point is that child didn't have a home and now she does with a loving parent who is going to love her and take care of her! Who cares where she adopted her from, IMO I think Madonna met mercy shared a bond with her and knew in her heart that was her child! Anyways congrats to Madonna and mercy.
22Madonna gives adoption a bad name. She can't be bothered picking up the child herself and both her adoptions are mired in controversy. Much as I can't stomach AngieHo, at least she personally picks up the children she adopts and takes them home.
23thank you Joedi....there are plenty of starving children here that need help, but you never hear about celebs adopting them. i really am starting to think that there are trends.
anyways, i do commend madonna...even though she bent the rules to suit herself, but at least there will be one less hungry child in the world. hopfully she is a good mother to all her children.
24I'm definitely rolling my eyes at the circumstances, i.e., African baby, bending the rules, Madge being a strict parent, but the kid is going to have a comfortable life. So good for Mercy.
25She will have identity issues from the word "Go" if they continue to neglect that child's hair. How could they not brush her out prior to her introductions? I'm sure they have the proper brush in the house due to David's presence.
26My family is mixed, with many as many identifications as there are individuals. She will be fine with love, exposure to her culture, a brother with a least some resemblance, and a damn hair brush.
I totally agree with Jaan_black, but also wish she had considered a child from London or New York first.
Well thank God she made it there in time for those Kabballah services!
27I just heard that Lourdes, Madonna's daughter, is a real b*tch already. A diva. I am not surprised. Madonna bought this little baby for her to keep her amused and busy. How sad.
28I hope this baby has a happy life with Madonna. I wish them the best in the coming years.
29LOVE ANGELINA got kicked out of D-listed forum because she was total psycho with mental issues. She is here now. Don't take anything she says seriously. Just ignore as a pest and brush it off, everyone.
30Yall have their lives under a microscope and pass your judgements merrily, assuming you know other people's intentions.
Guess what, you don't. Madonna, adopted, so what, leave them alone, what are you doing to this world, besides casting stones to others? Go mind your f*cking business.
Don't even bother replying, I'm a total random, who's off to never come back.
31Love Angelina.... more like Obsessed with Angelina. You are annoying.
32I am so sick of people always tlaking about celebs adopting "black babies" list all the celebs who have adopted black or african children I dying to know. you people are all racist. there aren;t even 5 you can mention but a can make a long list of celebs who adopt white or asain kids tho.
33This little girl is beautiful and she looks so sad in that picture. I'm sure she'll be well cared for monetarily, but I really hope it isn't true that Madonna couldn't change her schedule or make the time to go pick up her new daughter herself. That's heartbreaking and makes me wonder what her true priorities are. Especially after making such a big deal publicly about the fact that the adoption almost didn't go through.
34So happy for them, Mercy will have so many opportunities, she has a whole family now.
Madonna really started to think about Africa after Bob Geldof's Live 8 and it's good to see how much she has done so far, not talking about the adoptions but her foundation and documentary about Malawi.
The point for me is that she's actually doing something.
And Lola is beautiful, great to see Guy with them.
