Lauren Conrad joined friends for lunch at Mr. Chow in LA yesterday — shop her look here. We see less of LC now that she's living her life off the small screen, but she's still finding plenty of stuff to do beyond The Hills. In addition to keeping her pup Chloe perfectly styled, she has been at the top of the New York Times best-seller list for two weeks in a row. Lauren also recently sat down with Harper's Bazaar after posing for a photo shoot in a dark wig to chat about her what happens after reality TV. She said:
- On Heidi and Spencer vs. Angelina and Brad: "They're completely different. The next time Angelina and Brad go shopping in the market and Angelina holds up two melons and smiles for a photograph, then they will be similar. . . .The face mask on vacation: I don't know if it was so funny because people really were being affected by [swine flu]. But otherwise [Heidi and Spencer] are very entertaining. You have to laugh."
- On fame: "The last three concerts I went to, I was removed by security because I was a fire hazard. People crowd around you and you lose that whole personal-space concept."
- On leaving The Hills: "My roommate went to Europe for two months, but I couldn't take a vacation without clearing it months and months ahead of time. My friends all got to date guys who didn't need to sign a release form. It literally affected the underwear I had to buy because I needed thicker underwear with a more sturdy band so it could hold up a microphone. I couldn't wear whites or prints because they don't look good on film. I had to consult a director of photography when I picked the paint for my walls because I had to have set lighting in my living room and kitchen. I had to have separate birthday parties for my filming and nonfilming friends. It's a closed book. I'm done. Against everyone else's will, I'm trying to take a break."

Wow, this is the first time I've kind of liked Lauren Conrad.
1I agree with comment #1, LC has a lot of admirable qualities. She is smart for one. I liked this interview.
2I think she's boring, but her thoughts on Spencer and Heidi was comedy gold
3She's sooo cute.
4I really like her a lot, she looks really pretty these pics, but her hair is soo flat in these pics, I can't stand flat hair, ahhh
5I like her too, as far as reality stars go she is a lot more likeable.
6Boo Hoo. My job which made me a famous millionaire made me not wear white and I had to buy thicker underwear. Wah. Cry me a river. She is so lucky to be where she is at and she owes it all to the hills. All that aside, she seems kind of likeable.
7yeah, still don't care about her but she's right, those two nut sacks are nowhere near AJ & BP
8Haha she's funny.
Yeah I think she also needs to thank the producers who made her rich, but I can understand the not so nice things of being on a reality soap
9I have to agree with Amanda....how can she complain about trivial things when the show has made her so rich and famous? Isn't that what she wanted?
10That is really invasive but it's still an easy paycheck.
11it's kind of funny to think about all the limitations and things that go one when you're filming a show like that. i think that this will be a good thing for her to be able to have a more normal life (if you can call that when you're still photographed everywhere you go). i hope that it all works out for her in the end.
12poor little rich girl
I feel awful for you
13I don't think she's crying "poor little rich girl". It's a two way street MTV made money of her and she made money off of them. end of story.
14vapid
15If I got paid $60K an episode, or whatever she made, leading to book deal, clothing line etc, etc., i wouldn't mind letting my producers pick my paint colors etc! My boyfriends would have to deal, I'd buy them dinner every night, courtside seats...I don't feel bad at all
16exactly, even though I think she's a great gal and everything. I would let the producers pick my underwear if needed per episode if I got paid as much as she did. Heck, i'll even stay single for a few years since they practically gave her a career to start with.
17She's not crying poor little rich girl. Its easy for everyone to give her a hard time and say how they would feel or wha they would do in her sitaution but you don't know. Pepole need to choose a career that makes them happy and clearly the limitations set were not making her happy no matter what the salary was.
18boo f'n hoo...so what if she couldnt wear a gstring & could only wear a thong becuz her mic wouldnt hold her underwear up???!!! wow these reality stars really have a hard life.
19I guess the idiotic reality TV mentality has officially taken over. You would be willing to sell the ability to make the most basic decisions about your personal life for a dollar amount? You people are nuts. That sounds like hell to me. It's all about the almight dollar? No thanks.
20She is not crying a river. She is simply saying that she is done with it. You people obviously have never had a job that pays well but has gotten old. When that happens, one needs to look ahead to new opportunities. That is what she is doing. Good interview.
21but she is no more fame worthy than my milk man
22You have to respect her honesty about wanting a break I hope they give her one!
23I agree with lenamike...she wasn't trying to get sympathy or all of your "boo hoos". She was just trying to explain some of the small restrictions of her everyday life that led to her decision to leave...despite the many the objections of MTV and so many others (because THEY make money off of HER too). Agreed annoymous number 21--she chose privacy over making anymore money off the show (when she very well could have) and now people thinks she wants sympathy!??
I agree her comments about H and S were funny--but then again I obviously like Lauren!
24Shes constantly been filming for MTV since she was 16, thats for 5 years. I applaud her for leaving all the money for a more private life. Shes not trying to play the pity card just stating the limitations of being on a reality tv show.
25Her look screams Marsha Brady. The extensions have got to go.
26I want her closet
27Can't stand her:Talentless and yawnsome, can't wait until she disappears.
28i agree with comment #1 and also to mannylove...i agree that she really wanted to have a quieter life but it is not good to say bad things about the show you've raked millions and have a more luxurious life...
its a good decision for her to leave the show but at least be thankful what the show have provided for you...
29I agree 100% with all the "cry me a river" comments. She gets no sympathy from me. She had better not think she would have a bestseller book on the NY Times list without the crappy show that she had to wear thick underwear for. She may not be boo-hooing but these kind of comments are hard to have sympathy for when she's the one who signed the effing contract to be on the show.
30I don't think she's complaining at all, i think she is more of setting the record straight....
she's growning up and growing out of the Laguna/Hills stage of her life and moving on to something else. i think this is the 1st interview where she's been blatantly honest about how she felt about being on the show. if the Hills was really reality, the paint on her walls wouldn't matter....
31I don't think she's whining. I think she's saying that she decided that she was done with that part of her career, had weighed the pro's and con's, and what was important to her, and quit. It takes a lot of strength and self-confidence to look at a job and say "Despite the perks, it's not working for me anymore.", and move on. We've all done it. Good for her!
32Amend Happsajc.
Let's also think about this. When she first started the reality show, she was in high school. What high schooler wouldn't beg there parents to be on MTV? Secondly, when she signed up for the hills she was 20. Once again, still young. Now that she is older she is coming to realize the fame that has come with it. Reguardless as to whether we think she deserves the fame, clearly it's there. When she was younger she did not think of the potential reprocusions of this decision. Furthermore, I don't think her complaints are at all trivial. To date someone they had to sign a release form. I think thats pretty significant. She clearly could exploite the crap out of this situation and want want want...like Heidi and Spencer, but now she wants to live a less public life. What's wrong with that?
As for the boo hoo part...seriously?
33She can say that she's done with that part of her life, but she was whining about it. That's not something she should do, because it looks like she's so ungrateful. It's not like they forced her into this show, and she became kind of famous through it. She should have just said that she wants to move on and do other things now. Such comments can backfire, and the list of things she had to do for the show reads like a "woe is me" story and it's really annoying.
