January Jones struck a few moody poses for next month's Interview magazine. The issue coincides perfectly with the return of Mad Men on Aug. 16, and she sat down with none other than Jack Nicholson to chat about her name and success. Here's more:
- Discussing with Jack why she picked him to do the interview: "Because after you called me to say that you appreciated my work in the first season of Mad Men, you said that I shouldn’t do too many interviews because the show is going to get bigger. So I thought it was ironic that you agreed to do this one."
- On her name: "It’s from a book called Once Is Not Enough by Jacqueline Susann. Bad book. . . They made the book into a TV movie and my dad watched it with [my mother]. My dad liked how January went with Jones. My sisters’ names are Jina and Jacey Jones. . . People think that I changed my name. I could’ve been an actress, a superhero, or a stripper."
- On her idea of success: "Well, success for me is to feel happy — 80 percent of the time. That’s been my goal in life. I think that comes from my father. He’s a very optimistic, happy person. I’m not quite sure if I’ll ever feel this, but I want to know how to be happy. I’m happy when I’m at work. I’m happy when I’m with my family or my dog. But, you know, there’s always that feeling of, I’m not satisfied. I have that thing in my stomach where I just need to keep striving for things. In my mind, I want the fairy tale."

She's an attractive woman but she looks kinda cross-eyed.
1Ugh! Not of fan of January "Drones." She is the weakest actor on Mad Men, and I love that show! I wish they had cast someone better in the role of Betty Draper. She has no emotion in her character whatsoever. And I agree - she does look cross-eyed.
2She is wonderful!! I thought that Rachel or Peggy or any other number of women on Mad Men were going to be more interesting than her. I still love the character of Rachel Menken but I'm a Betty Draper fan as well in equal measure, and it's because of January Jones. She is underrated as an actress probably because her portrayal is subtle but she is perfect, absolutely perfect. It's as though she is right out of that time.
3I forgot to mention that she is in an indie film called "Swedish Auto" with Lukas Haas and it's really good. Normally, I wouldn't have watched it but I someone reccomended it to me and I found out January Jones was in it and I had to watch. It's super mellow but very sweet, it grows on you and I really liked it by the end. It was all acting

PeachyKeen, I couldn't agree with you more.
Mad Men is absolutely my favorite show.
I have never missed an episode and I'm rarely like that when it comes to TV shows. I believe that January Jones is underrated. And I like that she's made Betty Draper so stuffy, stilted, and
immature. I just love this show and each and every actor/actress imbues their character with such feeling!
7love her. funny that jack interviewed her. he probably wants to jump in the sack with her cause she is on her way up.
can't wait for the new season...
8He was in Anger Management with her and she said in an interview that sometime during season 1 of Mad Men he called her and said "I can't believe that girl on Mad Men is you!" and gave her some career advice/told her how well she was doing. I think that's why he interviewed her.
9She is beautiful and amazing on Mad Men. Can't wait for the new season!
10Great photos, love it
11I like her and her show!
12i think all the women in the show play strong, memorable characters she is no exception...she really plays the part of demure finishing schooled housewife really well
13It is so refreshing to read about January Jones, aka someone not in the tabloids every week. She is excellent on Mad Men and to the people who think she "has no emotion" doesn't understand the character of Betty Draper.
14She is stunning on Mad Men. And everywhere else.
15Love January Jones. Love Mad Men.
These photos are to dye for.
16she's interesting looking and I've never heard of her...January Jones sounds like a character from a 70's pimp movie..."Foxy Brown and January Jones star in _______" lmao
17she is gorgeous and a FANTASTIC betty draper....she is the perfect 50's housewife on the outside, but inside you just know there is SO much that she is hiding....
someone refresh my memory....has she gotten an Emmy nom for Madmen yet?? i think so, but i can't remember...
18she's so pretty! love her name.
19Amazing cover!
