Angelina Jolie arrived in Baghdad, Iraq today to visit and speak with refugees as a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador. She was spotted earlier this week leaving LA with Maddox, so he's along to get a firsthand look at his mom's activist side in the middle east. Angelina's day trip to Baghdad comes before she is scheduled to attend the 24th annual Arab Children's Congress in Amman, Jordan, which also begins today. The actress will be honored at the event for her charity work around the world and will apparently be staying with her friend, Her Majesty Queen Noor. Angelina's commitment to displaced people has brought her all over the world and this time she has her oldest son with her to watch as she is applauded for her work.

Nice
1I always like seeing her like this, fresh faced and natural.
2I love this woman.
3Thanks for the thread, she 's an amzing wamon.
4God, these photo-ops are really starting to get on my nerves. I know, I know she's supposedly helping people. But how is she really helping? Is there an increase in donations after she makes one of these appearances? Do people suddenly head to the UN and donate their time? She has raised awareness for these causes, but has she actually gotten people to do something that has actually improved the lives of people? As far as I know, the refugees in Iraq and Afghanistan are still refugees. And the situation in Darfur is just as bad if not worse than it was before Clooney and Jolie showed up there. So can someone please tell me how these photo-ops actually help people other than the celebrities who pose in these photos?
5Love people doing good things~
6beautiful woman like Audrey H
7I am so PROUD to be a fan of Angelina Jolie .
8Lovely
9huh - that's kind of a different trip but i guess it goes along the same lines as all the charity work that she does. it's nice that she's able to take one of her boys with her too.
10I think it is kinda sad. It may raise awareness but so
11much of the money sent is used to have the big parties
to honor people, pay their wages and make them look good.
Just a fraction of it is actually going to help the kids.
There really hasn't been a change. Think of how many kids
everywhere could be fed with the amount of money that party
will cost, the air fare, and all the expenses. I read a
article not to long ago that said if they don't get more
donations they will have to cut wages, so who is the money
really for. To help you need jobs, decent places to live,
and if they get money for medical, the government cuts
what they pay so it doesn't really help. Right now you
can walk a block and find someone who needs help.
The b*tch who b*tches about what Angelina and Clooney does for the children and refugees should SHUT UP!!!!! Look at yourself if you have done anything at all ...you are only good in opening your big mouth..
12"So can someone please tell me how these photo-ops actually help people other than the celebrities who pose in these photos? "
Yes, plese, anyone! I'd like an explanation as well. What is she being awarded for?! Shouldn't the people who actually live in these countries receive an award??
I'm fully ready to like her as soon as I get an explanation that at least sounds plausible!
13She may be staying in Jordan with Queen Noor, but the 29th Children's Conference ended July 11. The 24th Annual Conference was held in 2004 and that is when she was honored.
This trip was most likely all about the excellent work she does for the UNHCR,
14I totally agree with Anon from 9:13 am.
15why would they be honoring her if she did not do anything?
16UNHCR has aid in the past that their donations go up as much as 50% when AJ allows them to publicize a mission or when she does an event for them. If you read the release the camps there have no running water or sanitation. That is something WE did as citizens of the United States. We invaded, occupied and tore up Iraq. WE caused the and displacement of over 2 million people killing nearly a million and maiming god knows how many.
17#17, we also removed a horrible dictator from power and started them on the road to democracy. Just sayin. I don't like the way it happened either, but if you think America is the enemy, perhaps you shouldn't be living here. Hopefully you don't.
18the 24th annual Arab Children's Congress in Amman, Jordan
19Its always inspiring to see Angelina go these counties and talk with the refugees. I think here stories about their strength inspire me the most. Love seeing her do good.
20what happened to the rest of my post? LoL the 24th annual Arab Children's Congress in Amman, Jordan happened years ago. They had the 29th annual Arab Children's Congress in Amman , Jordan a few weeks ago. In touch started the story after they found out Angelina was heading to Jordan and did a quick google search... only thing is they found OLD info.
21#5#13#15 What you need is to read more so you know what is going on...
22If Goverments of all the countries can't do anything about the situation in Iraq.. Darfur and other suffering countries...Are'nt you expecting too much of Angelina or Clooney? You honestly think they just want their photos taken... Are you aware how much they have donated personally? Just look around.. other actors just want to make money and do not give a sh*t about anything...
She has more guts that most men. She could easily does like any young actresses...pamper herself, bulk up, tan to keep that 'laracroftian' figures. Instead she does her humanitarian work and take care of her family.
She has her priorities in check. No superficial values of beauty. Just intellectual stuff. She is bigger than Hollywood. She along all the other women working in that sector, doctors without borders, especially makes me proud to be a woman. Woman of substance !
23I am surrounded by Chaldaean (=Catholic) refugees from Iraq, most of who seem to have ended up here in Sweden. So I am very well aware of their situation. There are so many people helping them with everything you can imagine, none of these people ever receive any awards, nor do they expect any.
I don't know how Angelina is any different. Yes, it's good if she does good work, but why does it always have to be under such media glare? Okay, if the media attention increase donations... but is it really money that they need?
I don't know what to think, my instincts just tell me that something's wrong in the state of Denmark (= nothing personal towards the Danes, these photo-ops just give me the icks!).
24I give her props when they are due, I mean I don't see any hollywood people doing anything of importance besides abusing my eyes/ears with horrid movies...but the photo op is another story as mentioned above....why do the cameras need to be there? it makes it seem soooo "look at me, I'm not a vampire wh*re, I help people"
25I think this sort of stuff commendable, but I'm not sold on the 100% Saint Angie view that some people have of her. I think a lot of her work like this is a big part of her very important public image - there's always a press release, always a photo op. Her image and career have certainly benefitted from it, as has her reputation.
26But in the end, if it brings awareness and even helps a little, it's worth it, and I'd rather see celebs doing this kind of stuff vs. partying all the time and being stupid.
24, maybe you should read up on Angelina's work before judging. You should start with her book "notes from my travels" which you can read online for free. It seems like people think she just hopped on the bandwagon when the truth is she hopped on nearly a decade ago and Brad Pitt, george Clooney, Madonna all jumped on the bandwagon because they see the press she gets. All three knew this stuff was going down before but they decided to try to make a difference. the get involved in the old later years of their lives when they need to reinvent themselves and/or need good publicity (brad did dumpe americas sweetheart before his captain save the world routine) ? That to me seems fishy than Angelina's nearly decade long work. Btw, she was in the crazy relationship with BBT... when she started her work she was still talking about wearing his blood around her neck and all the crazy sh*t they did together. so I really don't think it's an image thing for her.
27Oh well, Bono is even worse I suppose!
28I applaud her.
29...and the gates of hell were opened!
30Im so proud of her
31By the way, Pinkprincess...my comment was not about you (there were 28 comments while I was writing mine).
32I would prefer to give her the benefit of the doubt that she her motivation is to do good and making a difference more so than all of these trips being mere photo ops. She uses her celebrity to make people aware of whats going on in these countries. Keeping issues in the news reminds people that these are going on and could inspire people to do good themselves or even inspire people to donate money or time to the cause. She is also a UN Goodwill Ambassador and thats part of performing those duties. They specifically chose celebrities so they can get as much attention to these causes and places as possible.
I believe her heart is in the right place, when you hear her speak about these things she comes off as being genuine and sincere. Plus she can fly a plane, how bad ass is that??
33I love the fact that she is staying at the Queen's house while she's there. Must be nice to see the world from that POV and then claim to know how the world actually works. It's like Bono claiming to be an expert on poverty while he readily admits he hasn't owned an actual wallet or physically touched money in 25 years.
34Eveday more like hell just froze over, did pinkprincess just give Angelina a compliment?
kclulu I agree 100%
35Shesh I need to proof read before I post! Thats what I get for trying to work and read/post on gossip websites at the same time:)
36Well there is nothing negative I can say other than I hope Maddox is not there. I understand she may want to teach him but that is not a safe situation.
37Is it just chance that these photo shoots always come
38out when one of them has a movie coming out? I agree
with 9:13. Those people won't see a change unless
the government changes. The UN is paying their own
wages out of the money we donate, some of which are
huge. Very little of it goes out to the familes.
There was a article about it not too long ago.
I have seen positive comments about Jolie (from Pinkprincess) before. Just like I have my share of positive comments about her favorite actress.
39Eveday that is a misconception I could careless about Jennifer Aniston. I think she looks adorable most times other than that I don't care. Most her movies suck other than Marley and Me and I like Friends but more for Lisa Kudrow.
40My bad, then. I thought you liked her a little more.
*At least we can agree in one thing: we both like Phoebe
41Oh and sh has one of the hottest bodies. Phoebe, Joey and Chandler made that show, Rachel was alright cannot stand Ross and can tolerate Monica, and Ursula was funny as hell.
42Sh=she sorry.
43I donate to St.Luke's, Shiners Hospital, Habitat for
44Humanity, Cancer and Heart Research, Feed America and
a couple others. All of them do a great deal of good
for people and a bigger amount of my money goes to
help. I feel sorry for the other countries but you
will have to change the government before you will
really help them. In case you haven't noticed there
are a lot of people in America that are in a bad way.
I wouldn't feel right letting a neighbor strave and
sending my money overseas. Since I can't afford both
why not help people right here.
Ross was the best part of Friends. I mean did you see that episode when Bruce Willis was on the show? I nearly died of laughter during that episode. lol
45must be time to promote another movie!
46I hated his character. Oh wait I liked that one episode where he made Emma laugh hysterically singing I like big butts.
47The people that should be award are the ones that are
48there for a long period of time and are involved with
the every day job. Instead they are getting long hours,
poor pay and still don't accomplish much. I have a
friend who was in Africa for a year and didn't feel
they accomplished much. He came home and went to work
in a Mission in LA. He said the people in LA were
in really bad shape too.
Angelina is such an amazing person and a good example of an exceptional human being.
I still am in awe as to why people compare her to Jennifer Aniston.
Why they hate on Angelina simply because she is with Brad.
Once again let’s just speak the truth.
Brad left Jennifer on his own free will.
Jennifer didn’t wan’t a family, she wanted a movie career.
All Jennifer’s movies will never get her an Oscar.
Angelina Already has won an Oscar and has been nominated on several occasions.
Angelina most Powerful Celebrity noted By FORBES 2009
UNHCR Amabassador - Angelina
Jennifer Aniston - Ambassador of “Smart Water”
Angelina Is sexy, Jennifer tries to be sexy
Angelina is with Brad, Jennifer is not. Get over it.
Men won’t stay with Jennifer and the minute rumors start about a fling the male actors quickly defuse the situation citing they are just friends.
Angelina - Sexy womanly features
Jennifer - Jaw structure like a man
Jennifer is over 40 and still single, can’t keep a man
Angelina - Life Partner Brad Pitt and 6 children
Jennfier doesn’t want the press to talk about the whole love triangle and every time she is interviewed she talks about the situation and how much she is hurt. In her words “That was not cool.”
Sorry people but the truth is in the facts.
Angelina and Brad reign supreme over Jennifer and her rumormill boyfriends
49LOve ya ANGIE
LOL Yea Ross singing that to Emma was so cute/funny. It was like Sir Mix Lot's Big Butts song is a lullaby of sorts. Wow.
