Apple's 2 Genius Solutions For Cracked Screens

It would be really hard to find someone who has not cracked their iPhone screen at least once. But Apple wants to change that with a couple of new ideas that were patented recently.

The company just filed an application for a protection system that uses sensors to detect when a phone is dropping. Once this happens, bumpers on each corner of the phone would pop out and act as a barrier between your phone and the ground. See photos of it here.

And back in December, Apple patented another invention that detects when a phone is dropping. This one, however, would estimate the point of impact and shift the iPhone while in free fall so that it would avoid landing on sensitive parts, such as the glass face. Impressive, right? Other iterations of the idea include a system that latches onto headphone cables to prevent falls and gas canisters that slow down falls. For more details, including sketches, head to Apple Insider.

Don't be surprised if it takes a long time for these patents to come to life (if at all, since many never do). While you wait and see, cover up your phone with a sturdy iPhone case. And if all else fails and you do crack your screen, you know what to do with it.
