For me, the countdown to Bourne is officially here! In less than one month Jason remembers. Buzz just posted the latest trailer and it's amazing. As if we weren't already getting our Affleck-Damon fix this summer with all those surfing pics, we now get the boys back in their old element - Vegas baby. Matt used to play the role in Rounders and Ben used to play professionally. The duo were there to raise money for the Enough Project and the International Rescue Committee which both provide help for survivors of the crisis in Darfur. Other celebs betting for good included Don Cheadle, Adam Sandler and David Spade.
Apparently Matty was knocked out early but Ben held his own. However, he said he has better things to do these days than play poker. Ben told People, "I've got a kid [daughter Violet, 2] and I'm directing movies. I have hardly any time now. Poker takes a lot of time if you want to stay good. I don't want to suck. I was good. I'm still good. Family is better though." Clearly this man is in a happy marriage and in love with the women in his life. This Ben is much better than the drinking, gambling bachelor from back in the day.

Ben's a wise man to stay far, far away from the tables...he has a good life now!
1Adam Sandler is awesome!!
2Aww, I like all these guys, but I love Adam Sandler...he's so funny and cute!
3You know what I am going to be honest and say i am sick of Darfur. I am sick of hearing about it, talking about it, watching reports about it. Nothing is being done to change the situation there, the west just talk talks talks while women get raped, children get turned into child soldiers and men get maimed. How many more years are we goiing to have to listen to how bad it is down there beofer someone get's the friggin b*lls to bring about a swift end to this atrocity.
4Matt looks happy! He looks nice. Yum..
5I'm sick of dalfur too. But I guess there are sh*t load of works need to be done so I'm keeping my mouth shut on this subject, lol.
6I saw Ben in Vegas a few years ago playing in a poker tournament, this was post J-lo, and pre Jen. He was a little greasy, Jen really helped clean that boy up!
7YAY! Havent seen Adam in a long time!
8Even though this is a low-key event, I really wish that Ben Affleck would dress up more. Ever since he dumped Jennifer 1 and moved on to Jennifer 2, he seems so *boring*
9doesn't affleck have a gambling problem
10Ben is getting his Hollywood game back on.
11I think it is cute that they are all rosy faced from the sun in Hawaii!
I am sure the dying people in Darfur are sick of it too....
As citizens, all we can really do is encourage our politicians to do something about it. That is mainly what these fundraisers are for. A cause with out the money to lobby for it is meaningless.
12A genocide should not be a cause that needs money to stop it or lobbying it should be something that get's the world's leaders to sit up and put a stop to things like that from happening is my point. 800 000 dead in 100 days in Rwanda did not need lobbying it needed action on the part of those who could do it eg the heads of governments of the world. the people dead in Niger from famine needed attention not lobbying or governments using Darfur as areason to take pot shots at each other. Darfur is the new Ethiopia.
13In order for governments to take action, you need to direct their focus there. In today's world, it takes money to get a moment with the people that make policy. Sad, but true.
Yes, it is terrible that the heads of the most powerful governments haven't done anything on their own. It is long over due. But anger about that should not be directed towards people who do understand the terrible things that are happening and trying to spur change.
I don't understand how even more people ignoring the situation would make things better.
14You are such a revolucionary Nyaradzom!!
Go and tell it like it is!
15I'm VERY excited about the new Bourne movie! Matt's so hot.
16Jill I didn't say people should ignore it nor did i say anything about the actors, I merely said I am suffering from darfur fatigue, just like people got tired of the never ending famine in Ethiopia, when was the last time you heard about it. We've been hashing and rehashing Darfur, people have been lobbying for over 5 years, the world's leaders attentions have been turned there and nothing has really changed. What I'm trying to say and plaease don't get it twisted is that Darfur is going to be another statistic for Africa, another country/region gone wrong. It's going to be another Rwanda where people apologise for not taking action even though they knew what was happening, another uganda, and another sierra leone, another congo , another liberia. The knowledge is there, condoleeza Rice was accusing other governments of failing Darfur so people can't not know about it about what is going on in Darfur, but like someone said before me, there is nothing of value of value in Africa, only Africans. Why can't the world do what it did in Kosovo, in Bosnia etc?
17Who is the kid in the wheelchair that Ben is talking to? Is he the same one who has been friends with Ben and Ben spoke at his high school graduation? Whoever he is, it looks like Ben is the only one who has any time for him. I know Matt is the big thing right now, but it wasn't always that way.At one point, Matt didn't work for about three years. But I think Ben is a totally good guy, and five years from now, things are going to be different for him.
18I understand that it can tire someone out to hear about it so often. But I also understand why people feel the need to do more than just sit on their hands. They might not be making massive differences, but it is better than doing nothing.
19Ben Affleck doesn't have a gambling problem.
As a matter of fact Ben was ranked after winning the California State Commerce Poker Tournament a few years back (before he married). Ben probably has won more money than he has lost over the years.
Ben had a problem with Alcohol. His father is an Alcoholic. Many children of Alcoholics go through rehab to make sure they can control their use of Alcohol. Alcoholism is hereditary, so it was a good move on Ben's part.
Ben seems to be in a good place in his life.
Matt and Ben both look happy.
20Looking forward too both of their movies.
I understand why people do it but right now i'm just sick of hearing about darfur.
21Dammmmmmmmmmmmmmnnnnn that tan is working for Matt. He looks great. Can't wait for the movie to come out!
22ok
23Hmm...looks like a nice event, but where is the money going to. I keep hearing about charities and seeing all these celebs dress up and down for Darfur, but I have yet to see any change for the actual citizens of the area...I'm just saying!!!
24i wonder what casino this is? and i wonder why the celebs dont put all this attention and money and heat into poverty IN AMERICA! its a terrible problem as well!
25Sorry ladybug, you're going to have to wait for the next devastating natural disaster for celebs to turn their roving eye towards US Causes!!!!
26good point, i guess its not en vogue enough! so sad...
27I think its cool that they all hang out and do family things with eachother's families!
28These two make me think of Good Will Hunting, and that's a good thing.
29hell yea that tan is working for matt!! yum!!
30i'm shocked at the members who have made comments about having "darfur fatigue." wow! thats pretty harsh. you may be "sick of hearing about it", but if it werent for these people being the "squeaky wheel" no one would feel fatigue on this issue. most americans would never have even heard of darfur. there is alot of good being done over there. you have to start somewhere. i really feel that your attitude is dangerous.
31the holocaust didnt occur because people hated jews. it happend because of apathy. people either didnt know it was going on or they did and just didnt care.
even if thats the way you feel... maybe you should keep it to yourself?
I don't think that it's not en vogue to discuss the issues in the US, but let's get real. In this country we have mechanism set in place to help the poor, but it's the populace who votes that mechanism down anytime they get the chance. If people in the US want to eradicate poverty stateside then they should make sure the vote in those who support doing so, but time and time and again it's voted down. We as a country have to be committed to ourselves because we have the mechanisms and resources to solve such problems in our own country.
Darfur is another story. I'm conflicted because I think the issue needs more than aid. For one, celebs need to connect the dots. Why is it so important for Americans and others to be concerned about Darfur, aside from the good feeling one would get from doin so? How does it affect our lives economically, politically as wella s morally. Too, why is financial aid the most important and effective solution, and is it, or are there other things we could be doing to solve the issue, if so what are they?
32"why should we care so much about darfur?" genocide! they are killing the men in these villages in front of their children and wives. and thats IF these paid killers dont kill the children and women. those that have been able to flee are all in refugee camps dying of starvation and dehydration. and if these horrible celebs like bono and geldof werent talking abt the situation in darfur it wouldnt even be in our nightly news. as far as how this affects our lives... its called oil! the chinese gov't has invested multi billions of dollars into africa for their oil and the us is being completely shut out as far as who is going to get this oil and who is getting the construction contracts, etc.... seeing that oil is the reason we have been at war for the last 6+ years, i would say that politically and economically anything having to do with oil is pretty major. when you boil it down, thats why people in darfur are being murdered.
33Good on you DivaBunny,
I think a lot of people simply don't see the connection between what's going on in Darfur and how it's affects Western politics. I think it's very important for the conncetion between the two to be made so that westerners, who have the resources and the power, understand the importance of using that power to stop genocide.
I'm interested in how economic aid works to stop that.
34Does Darfur have oil? Oh wait, isn't it Sudan that has the oil? Well, then I think the U.S. will stay out of it. Pretty sad.
35jmnast - WHERE DO YOU THINK DARFUR REGION IS??? SOUTHWESTERN REGION OF SUDAN!!! in addition to supplying oil money and weapons to sudan, china has vigorously defended the country against any international criticism over darfur.
36Didn't Hank Azaria used to be hot?
37Noooo! Go see El Cantante on the 3rd instead of that Bourne series thingy.
38Nice tan Matt!!!
39Wow, Matt is looking a lot hotter here than he has in a while. I guess those colonics with Ben are really working!
