People Are Creating Wonderful Versions of the Women's Bathroom Sign

If you've ever groaned at the dress-wearing women's bathroom sign, you'll appreciate this new design. Last week at the Girls in Tech Conference in Arizona, a project management company called Axosoft unveiled an overhaul of the signage: a women wearing a blue top and, best of all, a red superhero cape.

Axosoft has since created a website called It Was Never a Dress to promote this new movement. The idea is "to shift perceptions and assumptions about women and the audacious, sensitive, and powerful gestures they make every single day," the site says. "In science, technology, arts, mathematics, politics, houses of worship, on the streets, and in our homes, insightful women are often uninvited, overlooked, or just plain dismissed."

In the coming weeks, the site will be collecting stories and images that honor women and portray them differently than how they're seen in society. For now, other women have been sharing their own awesome versions of redesigned bathroom signs on the Facebook page of It Was Never a Dress.
