im not sure how I feel about her.. Im on t he fence. I used to hate her dearly and now I'm in questionable dislike mode
2I love how she comes back into the music scene and says for the past few years she's been focusing on music and her DAUGHTER then comes out with a song called Promiscuous and an album called Loose. kind of ironic.
3Like, not really the message you'd want to put out there now that you have a daughter in the world
4funny observation Blond
5WOW, those earrings and belt are huuuuuge!
6True blondesugar, I don't agree with her album and song (which I hate) but then half of hollywood does the same thing...they sing songs that do not pertain to their actual lives.

I'm not really into her anymore since she decided to sell out her old style to hip hop, but it's whatever! I do like her new song maneater, it's very No Doubt-ish imo.
8ya, i hate that her song sings about promiscuity as if it's a great thing to have in common with a guy, so let's hook up. and they play it on the station that my 12 year old daughter likes to listen to all the time!
it was interesting to explain to her just what that means, and that even tho' "i'm like a bird" was a great song, she now skanks herself out like most of the "women" making music out there.
and just what female singers are out there for 12 year old girls today?? not many. glad she can appreciate carole king, heart and annie lennox, just to name a few.
9Babsee, that must be difficult to try to explain these silly songs to your daughter. My nieces were singing London Bridge the other day. They have no clue what it means, but it upsets me.

I like the bangs, but this belt is soooo Paris Hilton, hahaha.
11Ok girls, I'm out for lunch.
12See you
bye sica!

I heard Nelly's new CD and I like it I have also heard Fergies and I cant beleive Im saying this but it wasnt bad at all!
14tharightgurl4U, that's cool, you're entitled to express your opinions here! Some songs I like, other don't, so it's all good.

haha that first part was funny babsee. its true. im not a prude and i like the song bc its catchy, but when i listen to the words I really hate it and the message
16THOSE earring & Belt? Choose one! Please?!
17Yuck. I can not stand her. She is fug, tacky and has completely sold out.
18eh, I don't really like her. I liked "Im Like a Bird" but i'm not really digging the new stuff. Does anyone else think she is channeling Janet Jackson's "Rythem (sp?) Nation" here??
19How old is her daughter? I din't even know she had one
lol opposite for me! i hated Im Like A Bird and i like her new stuff
:)
20What? I'm not the only one who does not agree with the message of her new song? Thank goodness! When I saw the album sales I thought maybe I was being too sensitive. It disturbed me that she would call her song permiscuous and her album lose. She is from Brazil though, right? In Brazil sex is everywhere. The culture is very different. But, still. She is sending a horrible message out. I did not buy this album and I am glad other people feel the same disgust about it that I do.
21Not brazilian. She is from Canada. Her ethnicity is Portuegese.
22I know me too i didnt like Nellys old stuff but I love the direction of her new CD
23Love the song but then heard her sing live on some award show and it really was horrible! kinda makes u go hmmm...
24I don't like her new stuff at all.
25She is looking kinda fly!!! When I first saw the pics I thought she was Penelope Cruz!!!
26I don't like this look on her. I think she's gorgeous though, I wish she'd go back to her folk days!
27Im not sure how I feel about her theses days.... She just did a big turn about and sure thats what sells records but what are you teaching ur little girl by dedicating an album called LOOSE to her? Not saying shes a bad mom, but in my head it doesnt add up
28I like it all. I like her music before, and I like it now. It is WAY different from each other though. This is whats hot right now, so its probably just about the $$$money$$$. This is what sales.
29Nelly is kicking ass at the moment....love the look and the attitude.
30Who's the baby's daddy? Was it someone in her band?
31What an interesting face she has...She's very pretty in a not so common sort of way!
32Those bangs are horrendous!
I hate this girl's voice ~ it just grates on me. It's all whiney and garbarled as if she's got some maple syrup in her throat or something.
33I love Nelly. Always have, always will. I do believe she has sold out, but it's very difficult to make good music as a woman, and have it be profitable. The same thing happened to Jewel. Her original music was awesome, but was it selling? Nope...not as much as a Christina or a Beyonce. I do wish that Nelly, Jewel, and others like them would stay true to their art, but maybe they've got bills to pay just like the rest of us. I don't like the subject of Promiscuous(sp?), ManEater, etc, but it is very danceable and great to work out to.
As a parent, I don't allow my daughter to listen to those songs. If it turns up on the radio, the radio station gets switched or turned off. Nelly isn't responsible for my daughter's morality, I am. Nelly isn't a teenager, so I don't see her as an immediate role model for my child. I get more concerned when singers that are in their teens sing inappropriate songs because they are closer to my daughter's age. Does that make sense? LOL
34She looks great after having her baby! She must have a great trainer..
35her CD is one of the few ones I can listen to all of the songs and enjoy them. It's really good.
36She is beautiful. I love her hair. Some of the pictures make her seem a little arrogant though.
37good luck trying to keep pop culture away from a pre-teen.
i am more from the school of 'let them hear it or see it, but explain the point it makes, the image it sends out of the person doing it,and if that's the kind of image you want people to think of when it comes to you'. and make sure you have a strong foundation at home, so crap like this doesn't have an effect on your child.
and i think it works, 'cause my 12 year old is disgusted that a woman would want to sing lyrics like that.
i think if you try to censor things like music, it just makes them all the more curious, and THAT leads to teen-age trouble.
now, lemme jump off this soapbox~
38I don't know if you know Nelly's history but I'm from Canada and she gets alot of exposure up here. I know alot of people think that Nelly is selling out and not being true to her roots, but the truth is that Nelly actually started out in hip-hop. She was in a hip-hop duo called Nelstar before she was signed, and when she lived in Toronto she'd get gigs free-styling. The guy who signed her actually met her one night at a club when she was freestyling. So actually Nelly isn't selling out, but actually going back to her roots.
And what about Nelly's 2nd ultra-folk CD Folklore? Everyone complains that she sold out and should go back to her folk roots, but when Nelly released her 2nd and very folky CD, NOBODY bought it (except me - and I think it's amazing, there are lots of standout tracks).
I love Nelly and Loose and I wish people wouldn't bash her without at least hearing the whole story first. And I think you shouldn't turn off the radio when songs like Promiscuous come on - your child going to hear it anyway so you might as well let them hear it and talk to them about it.
Loose is Nelly's best CD yet. Every song is infectious and it isn't just club beats but slow powerful songs like In God's Hands too.
By the way I love her bangs and the belt - the earrings not so much.
39Not liking the hair but she is pretty. I'm glad she's done well.
40MsRoyalTee - when I say I wish she'd go back to her folk roots, I mean it, I bought Folklore and Woah Nelly as soon as they came out! I love her. I just think this new look and sound doesn't make her as special, I still like her new songs, but they lack the depth, originality and creativity that her other albums had.
41Thank you MsRoyalTee for bringing out all the true points. You pretty much took the words out of my mouth. I am from Toronto myself...and Yes Nelly started own in the hiphop scene..so it bugs me when ppl keep saying she is selling out. She is not, that is actually her roots!
The #2 thing that really bugs me is when ppl complain that the artists are selling out for sales. Well when she did the folk stuff, why didn't ppl buy it??....well duh, ppl want to buy the bad stuff. So if you don't want artists selling out, well then buy their album when they are all goody goody. Truth is we can fuss all we want, she is smiling to the bank, just compare the album sales. Nothing you say will change the fact that she is spluring her money from the hard work.
42I had no idea Nelly began in hip hop, so thanks for clearing that up for me. I'm happy now because it changes my whole sell out perceptive. I'm a big Nelly fan and I purchased each record she has released. I prefer her folksy songs to her hip-hop sound, but I enjoy her as an artist either way. And I agree...people didn't buy Nelly's second album, which I thought was fabulous. But they will buy more danceable stuff like the work she has released now.
I'm very firm about what my daughter wears, listens to, watches or reads. I won't bend just because the rest of the world wants to be permissive. When I think she's old enough to understand a song like Promiscuous, then I will allow her to listen to it. For now, she can listen to Nelly's other stuff. She loves Nelly's spanish duets with Juanes, and some of the songs she sings in Portuguese. I'm not cutting her off from a great artist like Nelly completely, but I will be selective when it comes to strong subject matter.
43i would have never guessed that she started in hip-hop. i saw her perform her new song on SNL when she first came back and she was TERRIBLE. her clothes were so tight, she could barely sing. her heels were so tall, she could hardly dance. the lyrics were so stupid, i sat there staring at the TV with my jaw on the floor. i still can't believe how sh*teous her new act is.
44I like her music, both old and new, and think she's cute.
