After presenting at the ESPY Awards, Kelly Clarkson took her pretty dress to Koi. Kelly's new album has caused a lot of controversy lately, but the pop star is still holding her head high and believing in herself, even in spite of her record label's complaints. My December debuted at #2 on the US Billboard Charts and dropped to #3 this week. Still not too shabby if you ask us. In an upcoming issue of Reader's Digest, Kelly talks about the current state of her career. Here's more:

On the RCA Records haters:
“They hated Miss Independent on my first album. It was No. 1 for six weeks, then they got behind it. They hated Breakaway. The song I wrote that they hated the most was Because of You. I fought and fought for it, it became successful and they finally got behind it. I’m not complaining, I’ll just say no until I get my way, and I did.”On rumors that Clive Davis didn’t like her new album, My December:
“I just want people to hear it, instead of 100-year old executives making decisions on what’s good for pop radio. It’s people my age who listen to it. My gut hasn’t been wrong yet, so why wouldn’t I continue to follow it?”
Sounds like Kelly has plenty of faith in herself and a good head on her shoulders. We just hope that she's able to prove herself again; we wouldn't want this to be the December of her career.

Kelly, stop whining. My God, you're a brat.
And for the record, Because of You pretty much defines "whine."
1I like Kelly Clarkson, if for no other reason than she does her own thing...music execs be damned! You go, girl!
2Kelly's dress is so cute!! Like i've said I admire her for going with her gut
3Rock on Kell....don't let the haters stop you from doing ur thing.
4aw , she`s looking great . love her . love her dress
5Love her she looks great here
6kellys cool, she is independent ... i luv her outfit-- dress & shoes are nice!
7i don't like her music but i give her props for this...
8Cute dress!!!
9she needs to STFU , sure clive davis is old kelly but he knows what's good and my december is sh*te...
10love the dress
11Good for Kelly for doing her own thing, I hope she's happy!
12she looks cute
13Why does everyone hate her so much? She can sing for sure. She gains weight ohhhhhh my god, she's not as little as the rest of hollywood so she should suffer?
14Good for her. I like her talent and damn spunk she showed her damn record company.
15My dislike for her has absolutely nothing to do with how much she weighs. I think she's a whiney brat no matter what she looks like.
16You go girl be your own woman control your destiny
17that dress looks amazing on her!
18you know i like that miss kelly clarkson is outspoken and all about her state of career and i did liked her last album but i just wish she would be more tactful (if that's the right word to use here) about it. i mean she just basically insulted Clive Davis by saying he is 100 years old. i don't think clive would be too happy to hear this. i think she could have expressed her frustration without offending the executives. i'm sorry but she hasn't achieve the status of Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey or Beyonce to be talkin' smack about Clive Davis.
lastly Clive Davis isn't the only she has dislike for. remember how she wasn't thankful about american idol in the past? a girl who isn't appreciative of those who got her where she is now, i think that says a lot there. well that's my own take on all of this.
19I'm not a fan of pop music, but I heard her live on this past season's AI and I thought she was great! I downloaded some of her new album and I'm liking it alot... As for everything else, well, I don't care what she wears, what size she is and who she's going out with. I care if the music is good.
20And this time with her it is!
I like Kelly but I agree that what she said about Clive Davis is tacky, tacky, tacky. I think I just lost a little respect for her.
21Kelly wasn't dissing American Idol, her managment team wanted to distance her from American Idol, to proove she could stand on her own. She's constantly had to battle the exec's for every little step forward that she's tried to make.
She isn't whining at all, she's just saying that she has a right to help chose what her "Style" is going to be about. If you don't like her then don't listen to her, but you don't have to hate on her. I also don't think she was specifically picking on Clive, she truly has said repeatedly that she appreciates all the opportunities she's had, but when it comes to defining herself as a musician she's been shot down repeatdly.
22i have to admit, you've got a point pink flats...
but i have to say, that dress she's wearing is just adorable!
23I believe a major reason for her being upset with Clive Davis and the record company is that they basically told her women don't (or, at least, shouldn't) write lyrics.
24Hey Pinkflats, no disrespect intended at all.... Clive Davis was born in 1932, that does kinda make him closer to 100 then it does to 20something. Yes, the man knows talent (hence the hiring of Kelly in the first place), but times do change and so does music - Kelly is changing and it seems (to me) that he doesn't want her to. Mr. Davis wants his money making pop machine and she wants to evolve. Her new album is a sign of her progression into a more mature women who's tastes in music and style are a'changing
Just my thoughts on it....
25I like Kelly and I think it is a good thing she has stood up for the songs she wants to sing. Obviously she chose the right ones before and people loved them and I'm sure her career will be fine. She is a great singer and I really like her new song "Never Again." However, I dont think she should have referred to Clive Davis in that way.
I also love that dress she has on in those pictures!
26OMG...she's actually cute in those pics!
27That's such a cute dress.
I love that Kelly is fighting to do her own thing.
yeah but pamela i'm sure clive wouldn't like that one of his musician is calling him 100. i don't how you don't consider this not whining since she has done many magazine interviews where she said she is not being taken seriously as a songwriter. this is just like jessica alba whining at every magazine about her not being taken seriously because she's too pretty. lastly i don't think that clive and the executives don't not respect female songwriters. i mean isn't alcia keys, who IS a songwriter and an artist, under clive's label?
just saying...
28I respect her for sticking to her guns ... it's hard to not be a pushover in this business. I do agree that the Clive Davis comment was a little tacky but I know that often what celebs say are taken out of context so who knows. I like her.
29I think her new album is decent. Sure, it won't sell as much as her previous but kudos to her for doing what she really wants to and staying true to who she is
30last words, like i said in my first post i like kelly but one huge hit album does not mean she can refer to her boss like that. if she keeps coming up with one hit album to another than yeah she can talk smack about clive. but i think for now it's too early in her career to be talking about clive that way.
31I'm not sure if it was Clive Davis himself, but Kelly did say someone at the record company told her that it is men who write lyrics. Alicia Keys may be the exception, I'm not sure.
32Wait, doesn't someone help Alicia write her lyrics? Isn't her boyfriend?
33nomerz, i agree about her words being taken out of context but when it's like the third magazine interview where she basically says the same thing (you should read the excerpt from her Blender interview about RCA) than you start to question what she is saying is really what she us saying.
oh goodness this is my fourth comment on just one postings. MUST.DO.SOMETHING.ELSE.
34As someone in the business, I can tell you that she is RIGHT about Clive Davis and the label. He's past his time and his vision isn't what it used to be. Clive Davis doesn't speak to what indie and rocker girls like me are into and frankly, I think "My December" is a respectable attempt to move into a place where Kelly wants to be. Is it the greatest album ever? No. Is it total sh*te? No. There are some really good songs on the album, like "Don't Waste Your Time", "Hole", and "Irvine". Kelly Clarkson has nothing to be ashamed of, it's the critics who decided to jump into the dinosaur pen with Clive Davis that should be ashamed. Selling out sucks when you're supposed to be the voice of music listeners. Clive Davis has his place in the industry - no one can corral a Whitney or Mariah like he can - but he doesn't have his finger on the pulse of the entire music world. He would HATE the very singer/songwriters who speak to people like me. He would HATE the New Pornographers (great newest album, by the way), loathe Sufjan Stevens, not have a clue about what to do with Rosie Thomas, tell Iron and Wine to sing louder... etc. Firing her management was smart, because of Kwatinetz and the annoyingly named "the Firm", she was left with no choice but to cancel an arena tour because Kelly isn't and probably never will be an arena girl and her MANAGEMENT is responsible for that misstep. Good luck Kelly - you're not my favorite artist, but you're OK. (also posted on my blog)
35you almost got me thinking there padraigin but when you ended your wonderful comment with "you're not my favorite artist, but you're OK," i sort of giggle. i guess i was expecting you to say something "kelly i think you're talented...." and such especially after what you just wrote.
i hope you get what i'm saying not trying to make fun of your comment. i actually enjoyed reading it except the last sentence.
36Where did I say she was untalented? Her music is not my type of music, that's all.
37Love her. You go girl! Do your thing!
38she is talented... wow... label drama....
i love her outfit... =D
39She can do no wrong in my book. Plus, she admires one of my favorite singer/song writers on the planet (Patty Griffin), so this girl has some good taste!
Rock on with your bad self, Kell!
40I like her and she looks good in that dress.
41Just not interested.
42She's got mega talent. I love the fact that she's so into her albums. Most people won't put forth half the effert she has so far. She seems comfortable in this business.
There is something to be said about being respectful of your elders even if you don't agree with them.
43she looks cute.
44So, if the "elder" is basically telling you that you suck as a songwriter, he merits respect simply because he's older? Not in this business.
45I love her dress, she looks pretty here.
46Look truth be told and let's be honest this album has sucked in sales her lead single was weak, it sucked after the greatness that was the last album. I'm not for clive Davis but i'm thinking she needs to keep quiet and concetrate on boosting up this album so she can actually say STFU the head honchos otherwise the road she's on right now says humble pie.
47Love her dress, love her new single, and haven't heard the album but if her past music is any indication then I won't listen to all the rumors about how horrible it is.
48Kelly's album was #1 on the worldwide chart in its first week, if we want to talk sales. Not every artist is going to appeal to every listener, but the album sales aren't weak so it must be appealing to somebody (and not just me...).
As for the comments about Clive, the backstory that's been told is pretty incredible...songs she's written have been huge successes and yet they don't want her to write her own stuff?!? Clive and his fellow executives are out of touch and Kelly did seem to keep quiet about it for a while, but for some reason now she's giving more details. Whether that's a wise move or not, who knows -- we don't know everything that's happened.
49I can't stand celebrities that are full of themselves.
