Adrian Grenier happily hopped into his Toyota Prius hybrid after running some errands in LA the other day. He's just one of the many celebrities who are very vocal about their environmental activism. Between the concerts, magazine covers and PSAs, it's impossible to ignore these stars as they keep doing good, so we want to know - are you inspired to be more eco-friendly?

i do what i can, but i don't have all the money they do to keep up. i recycle when i can and i use flourescent bulbs in some fixtures. as much as i'd love to get a hybrid, the pocketbook won't allow it. but i do drive a compact car, so i get pretty decent gas mileage.
1Celebs don't really inspire me to be eco friendly....look at the size of their homes. How are they getting to their locations? By private plane?
Just because you drive an eco friendly car doesn't mean you should get a medal. Eco friendly is a lifestyle change not a vehicle change.
2I think that celebs driving hybrids does help make them more "cool" - I am about to buy a Prius and I must admit that celebs driving them has helped - I can afford a much nicer car, so it's hard to buy a car for a social statement when you could be buying the status symbol.
And tickentime you're right - it is a lifestyle change, one that my husband and I are making bit by bit. Choosing to buy a hybrid is part of that change.
3eco-friendly, my *ss. they're only doing it to help their images...*cough*...i meant to say GOOD FOR THEM!!
no but seriously i don't think the celebs who preach about being eco-friendly really have a good perspective on what goes on outside their 12 million dollar mansions. do they really think that people who actually work 40 hours 9 to 5 can afford all the eco-friendly products or services they suggest?
i know i do what i can to help the environment but my pocket of changes draws the line on how far i'll go. what can i say? i'm a college student.
4I'm Eco friendly enough without some celeb telling me to do it. Good for them but I can be an example myself.
5I'm ahead of them. I bought my Prius before it was Leo cool.
At the same time I appreciate their efforts since a younger fan might get inspired to take an interest and make a change.
Also do not scoff at the Prius driving celebs while they jet set and have multiple homes. A lot of celebrities can do more by chosing to pay a Green Tax to offset their carbon footprint or help to sponser alternative energy initiavies..and also think of it this way. If you have 3 homes and are only in one at a time, the other 2 that are empty are using less energy then if someone else was living there full time. Its a give and take measure.
The absolute worst thing you can do is just sit back, not do anything and critisize the people who are making an effort.. no matter how small.
6I don't do it just because my fav celeb is doin it... I do it coz i should be...
7I find it very hypocritical when celebs forcefeed eco-friendly awareness to everyone else... Especially when they live the extravagent lives they do...
I want one, only one problem though, the green stuff
8Not really.
9I doubt that a Prius is the only car that these "eco-friendly" celebrities own/are transported in...looks like Adrian got in a few scrapes! Until there are "nicer" hybrid cars I don't see myself tootling around in a Prius. Sorry, I just love my Audi.
10Nope no inspiration......only fashion wise at times but generally dont care much
11I don't think they really inspire us common folk...however, it is good to see that they are doing their part (in some way...lavish living aside), especially since they're in the spotlight.
It really comes down to what the individual contributes.
12I make my choices based on what I believe in, not because of what some celebrity is doing. Celebrities are just people who happen to have fascinating jobs with a high level of visibility. They are not better or smarter, they are just like us. Well except for all of the free goodies, tons of cash and paparazzi. I do think it's kind of weird/interesting that celebrities have so much influence, both good and bad, over non-celebs.
13I go eco friendly out of my own free will. My choice to be so came after watching "An Inconvienent Truth", even though I was already being slightly eco friendly to begin with. Oh and I think the Toyota Prius hybrid is an ugly-ass car. That and I can't stand Adrian Grenier.
14i'd like to be caught in an eco-friendly car with leo. does that count? no in all seriousness my next car will be eco friendly and it doesn't have anything to do with celebs driving them.
15yep in some ways they do.but im pretty much eco-friendly on my own.
16if it something that the celebs are doing out of genuine consciousness well more power to them.
personally i am not taking any cues from them. i base what i want to do for the environment on what i read and study.
17i would'nt say celebs inspire me to do things like buy a green car, its good because celebrities do have an effect on people so better it b somthing positive like this, i think if i want to do somthing like this i do it on my own not just because a celebrity does tho.
18i think carbon footprints are bs..i dont really care what celebs drive but def think anything positive they do is for their PR image....www.globalwarmingheartland.org
19Being Eco Friendly should be everyone choice and people should not do it because they see so call celebs doing it.some people need to grow a brain and think for them self
20Nope, I can think for myself and have been eco friendly for years.
21I've been recycling since my county first started the program sometime in the early 90s. I will soon be switching to a tankless water heater and upgrading my air conditioning unit to be more eco friendly - because they're both breaking:(.
Although I support purchasing a hybrid, the next car I'm buying won't be a hybrid because there are a lot of vehicles now that get just as good gas mileage as a hybrid. I feel that I do my best to be green, however, it great to have celebs show good example.
22You can actually be MORE eco-friendly by driving a well-maintained smaller car. It's makes me sad to see people constantly driving around in their large luxury cars because they damage the environment so much. Image isn't everything; no matter what the commercials tell you.
I am happy and sad to see celebs pushing the eco-agenda. It's sad that they have to in order to reach people, but most Americans won't change their ways unless a)it's cool b)they lose $$ or c)they are shamed into it.
The environmental siutation is a larger version of Darfur, no one cares until it makes them look really bad or really good.
Please take the time to educate yourself on global warming and what you can do to help fight it. It's not all about YOU, it's about everyone and your future kids.
23No. I would want to be eco-friendly because I care about our enviornment.
24Celebrities jamming the issue down my throat, an issue I'm more than aware of, infuriates me and temps me to ignore them (as horrible as that sounds).
I'm more than capable of thinking and making decisions on my own. Celebrities and their opinions don't factor into that.
Well I try to by local, organic stuff... but honestly, if I had their money it would be a lot easier...
25Just b/c celebs happen to own a Prius doesn't make them eco-friendly...I'm sure they (Adrain, Leonardo, Cameron) all own other cars less environmentally friendly aside from their good PR Prius'. Please.
I think their private jet travel takes a bigger toll on the environment.
26I try to.
27NO.
28I also don't try to be eco-friendly because of celebrities. I do it for for reason much bigger than them: the environment. I recycled, bought local (organic if it's local), kept my air conditioner and heater use to a minimum, rode the bus when I could, etc. before I knew celebrities were doing it. I don't own a hybrid (and I think Priuses are ugly), but I do own a car with excellent gas mileage. I wouldn't mind a Civic hybrid, though. Maybe in a few years...
However, the celebrity influence comes to play when I see Alicia Silverstone's awesome eco-friendly wine barrel chairs in a magazine.
29it's too bad that all of these "eco-friendly" celebs and people can't be any more friendly to the American economy and start buying American hybrids
30Like most of you I try hard to be eco friendly as well. In some cases being a celebrity helps to do that because you have a large amount of cash. One tip I learned that everyone can do as far a gas goes that won't cost you any extra money is, to fill up in the early morning or evening. When the temperature is lower less gas fumes are released into the air. Also try not to over fill your tank. We can't all afford a new hybrid but we can all do little things! Way to go everyone for trying!
31Tee0206- I saw similar chairs to that on www.vivaterra.com
32They are really cool!
Oh, people who drive Priuses irritate me. It seems to me that none of them realize that the plants that manufacture a Prius are more environmentally dangerous than a Hummer plant or even a Hummer for that matter.
"All the nickel in Prius batteries—1,000 tons annually—is purchased from a plant in Sudbury, Ontario. The plant has caused such environmental damage from sulfur dioxide emissions that the surrounding area is devoid of life for miles and was used by NASA to test moon rovers."

I personally won't drive a Prius, and I easily could, my uncle works for Toyota and I could get it for a good price. But it's a status car that's not worth it's price. It's life expectancy isn't even close to that of a normal car- hope all the freaking Prius drivers, around where I live, are financially excited about having to replace their car 100,000 or so miles from now, unless they want to push it farther which isn't safe.
33Being "green" really isnt as hard as people make it seem. Sure some of the steps are crazy expensive-like certain cars, solar panels on everything, certain building and home maintaining features. But when it comes down to everyday actions, it's not hard at all. As an example of what I always see or hear, It cracks me up how people always say "We cant do that!! It's too huge of an adjustment for our faaaaammily!!" How is having a seperate bag to throw bottles in, cans, or bags or cardboard a huuuuge adjustment? Simple as hell. It takes a few seconds-family or not. Even doing nothing else, but recycling helps tremendously, and Products? They've always been pricey, but they are coming down signifigantly and making it a bit easier. Seventh Generation brand is your best bet! I love them and dont fall for this new wave of popular name brands getting on this whole organic/natural trend. Those comapnies are in it for the money and could give a rat's @ss about the impact(meanwhile shadowing brands like 7th Generation and tons of other great ones who started doing this YEeeeaaaaars ago-waaaay before the green trend. Those people REALLY care about the earth and what they are doing-but no one see's their brands because you have Betty freakin' Crocker selling organic Hamburger Helper. Give me a break.) Buying organic/free range/natural doesn't mean
.
34sh!t if their business practices are unhealty. Kinda defeats the purpose. Going to a place like Whole Foods, Wild Oats, or (preferrably) a local owned natural goods store, while may be a few cents more, is totally worth it to at least know that the natural food you're buying really is that-and the companies that make them are good and actually are into what they do and aren't doing it because it's the fashion right now.
The good thing about this trend though-it's helping to knock down the prices on stuff that helps
I posted a comment, that I guess didn't go through because it had links or something. oh, well..
35Priuses are more harmful to the environment.
Look it up, the manufacturing plant in Canada where they receive nickel had no life for miles around it because of the sulfur dioxide.
I could purchase one, but driving a small car that's well maintained is better on the environment and my wallet.
Um they don't really help the world so yah, they just make people enjoy them, i don't know what i'd do without music and great videos!
36Um they don't really help the world so yah, they just make people enjoy them, i don't know what i'd do without music and great videos!
37CAN'T WE THINK ON OUR OWN? I DON'T NEED CELEBRITY TO KNOW THAT I HAVE TO RESPECT MY PLANET.
38I CANNOT BELIEVE THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO "DONT CARE" ABOUT THE ENVIRONEMENT AND ALL. I WONDER WHAT IS THE EDUCATION LEVEL OF YOU ALL.
We've had a Prius since they came out. And our brownstone reno is a partially green reno. Has nothing to do with what celebs do, just what we should all try to do. The little things add up.
39I have a question - kind of.
40With the hybrid cars, you can use gas and electricity for them right? So why is it that nobody pays attention to the fact the electricity comes from a power plant?(in most cases) Those pollute the air just as much, if not more, than people using a regular car.
I don't follow the celebrities, but they certainly bring it to light because they are in the public eye so much. So when I hear about new products because of them, I will consider trying them, but only to be more eco-friendly, not to follow a celeb.
41oh please, hybrids are better for the environment than regular cars, no argement.
42If your city has the infrastructure for recycling, there is absolutely no excuse not to.
I am tired of politicians, business and advertisers using celebrities to popularize their agendas, brands and/or products. Personally I try to question and research matters for myself. I don't want to be a mindless sheep and simply follow what "they" are saying is the right thing to do.
43I can't believe some of you think that celebrites speaking out for a cause like being green is bad. Is it bad that they are bringing awareness about Darfur? Or land mines? Or Katrina?
Are they hipocrites when it comes to living green? Maybe - but unless you live in a jurt, or at least off the grid, we are all hipocrites. It doesn't have to be all or nothing - it's what you can do that matters. It's better than nothing.
I have no doubt that without an Inconvenient Truth, without celebrities speaking out, without Rupert Murdoch actually doing a 180 on whether or not global warming actually exists, that we would continue to deny it until it's beyond too late. When the public has been swayed is when the politicians will act, and that's only done through constant reminders - if it's from celebrities then it's part of the big picture. We are ALL influenced to one degree or another whether we realize it or not.
44you left out an option..
how about no, i don't take anything "celebs" do seriously, because they drive their eco friendly cars to their private jets, or build million $ "eco-friendly" houses.. or little miss natural lisp drew berrymore who insists on being eco-friendly, but yet smokes and leaves cig butts in the woods? seriously.. none of them are educated, and none of them back their word. when they start walking the walk, instead of talking the talk, maybe i'll consider it
45surprisingly i agree with phat e, celebs are hypocrites and i dont care how many concerts or psas you do, buying something doesnt make you enviromentally conscious doing something does
46Amen to that pinkflats!!
It's nice to see that celebs are trying to be more eco friendly and thereby do more for the environment..
But you know for as along as I can remember I've been putting in my own grain of salt too. Energy conserving light bulbs, recycling, taking the bus rather than driving my car to work...Little things like that - reusing bags..
I mean obviously its good to know that maybe they realize that the earth needs to be taken care of...but yea, the celebs don't inspire me at all..
47I believe I'm going to marry Adrian.
48No, I think it can be detrimental. I love the new eco-friendly movement, and am glad that celebs are helping raise the profile, but all it takes is one annoying celeb to ruin it for some. cough..*michael moore*..cough.
49No, I'm glad they can actually afford to be eco-friendly, but I can't right now. Not everyone has a celebrity bank account.
