Conveniently timed, Matt Damon received the 2,343th Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame today as he kicks off his promotional tour for the latest and most likely last Bourne movie. Damon even got a new suit for the occasion! He usually goes for the greyish look like when he left his mark with his Ocean's boys but today tan was his color of choice. Too bad the adorable actor couldn't get new shoes to match. Here's what Matt had to say about his special star:

"I can't believe I'm standing on a star with my name on it. I'm going to show my kids that... Ben and I lived in a really crappy apartment about five blocks away from here and we used to walk up and down here. It'll probably sink in when I've walked down the street in about six months and see someone peeing on my star," he laughed.
Hilarious. Well at least he knows what to expect with the future of his star. Stay tuned for more of Damon and his lucky wife Luciana Barroso at his LA premiere that happens later this evening. Maybe he'll get a new pair of shoes in between events.

I'll never understand why celebrities find this to be such a high honor. You have to purchase the star, you don't earn one. Generally speaking, your fan club puts up the cash. Thank them, don't thank the people in Hollywood for honoring you.
RYAN SEACREST got a star long before Matt Damon. How much of an honor can that really be?
1i read the matt damon article in gq earlier today- love him!
2Are you serious Greggie? Ryan did? Wtf!!!
I'll go to Christina Aguilera's Star..I know I've donated with my concert ticket purchases!!
3Wow...he looks so HOT!!
4Aww, he's so cute. Congrats to Matt (although he'll never read this..but what the heck). I think his shoes are fine, a brown would have been better but I can't stand tan colored shoes on a man.
5Yeah, I would've gone with brown shoes, too. Not tan.
I could swear Ryan's is directly outside the entrance to Kodak Theatre, too, but I'm not 100% sure of that.
6Yeah, I think you're right Greggie...when I saw that Ryan Seacrest got a star I knew something was fishy.
7There are some seriously random stars on the Walk. Although I think at some point it was an actual honor and they had to start charging because of the maintenance. And they're $15,000.
8this is really sweet...
9The Walk of Fame is just a tourist attraction. It would be nice to have one, but they give them out pretty easily if someone comes up with the cash. There are many, many stars with names that most people wouldn't recognize.
But he looks good anyway!
10I love Matt D! He seems so goofy and down-to-earth.
11That's sad...I think they should charge but not allow people like Ryan Seacrest to get one. I mean he's on there along with people like Bob Hope, Johnny Cash, Charlie Chaplin and then Ryan Seacrest...it's laughable. Actually, I looked it up and he's at 6801 Hollywood Blvd. and so is Britney Spears! Small world.
12Oh and I don't mean anything against Matt getting one, I still get chills from his acting in The Talented Mr. Ripley, he's very entertaining.
13I like Matt.Good for him.
14i like the humble old matt damon.
15what a shame..ryan seacrest..do think he needs a star on hollywood..thanks jmast for looking up the info..
ryan is totally from the other side
16Good for Matt! It's always nice to see someone who deserves a Star, actually get one.
17Love him! Can't wait for the movie to come out!
18Congrats to Matt. I like that he has perspective about it.
I thought the deal with the stars was, you had to pay for your star but then some committee decided if you were famous enough to get one.
19It's about time! I don't necessarily think he's the hottest guy around, but he's an amazing actor.
20Got this off of wikipedia:
Nominations are submitted annually by May 31, and the Walk of Fame committee meets the following month to pick the next year's group of honorees.
Maintenance
21The Walk of Fame is maintained by the self-financing Hollywood Historic Trust. In order for a person to get a star on the Walk of Fame, he or she must agree to attend a presentation ceremony within five years of selection, and a $25,000 fee must be paid to the Trust for costs such as security at the star ceremony; a 2003 FOX News story noted that the fee is typically paid by sponsors such as film studios and record companies, as part of the publicity for a release with which the honoree is involved. On other occasions, the fee is paid by a fan club or the nominating person or organization. However, controversy and mystery surrounds the way the "Stars" are nominated and approved, as discussed in a 2001 ABC News story that interviewed honorary Hollywood mayor Johnny Grant.
I really like Matt and I'm very happy for him! He's got a lovely family
22Matt is a great actor!
23I am not a fan of Ryan Seacrest...but he HAS been building an empire in radio for a very long time. He didn't get it for hosting Idol, he got it for his work in Radio and Broadcasting. He is today's Casey Casem.
As I said before, the stars are meant to be a tourist attraction, so the selection is usually very short sighted. Who is popular today has more influence than who is a classic star.
I would guess that the majority of stars you see on the walk would make most people go "huh"????
24I love Matt anyway, paid star or not.
25You're right Jillness...Ryan somehow gives me the heebeejeebees.
26I like Matt. He just has a really likable personality. I'm glad to see him get his star.
27A $25,000 fee for a lame star in which random drunk people urinate on? Why can't these people just be happy with their little gold statues?
28Scarlet, THEY are probably happy with their statues...but stars always get on the walk of fame while promoting a movie. The studios and record companies have more to do with it than the celebrities. It is all a part of the promotion machines.
29Good for Matt. I'd be more concerned if Matt Damon were given a Nobel Prize. A Walk of Fame star is part of the Hollywood illusion. He's an actor, we all know him, let him have his star, whether he had to pay for it himself or not.
30i just love this man to pieces!!
31THat's right. It's not much of an honor but was probably paid by Universal just to publicize the Bourne movie that is having its premiere on the same day......
32They're giving it away like candy nowadays.
33Congrats Matt!
34Congratulations for Matt!! I love him!
35I totally adore him! He is great actor and still remains down-to-earth, open-hearted, with great sense of humor! He even can make jokes with himself - this is the sign of wisdom! I think we will hear more and more of him in the future!
36Good for him ! love him ♥
37Handsom, handsome man...
38Good for him but imo the whole 'star' thing has lost its appeal over the past couple of years, they have been giving 'stars' to the lamest people.
39I kind of agree with you Greggie...I think this whole star thing has become kind of tarnished. I mean, really? Ryan Seacrest? How does he even compare to some of the classic stars that are already there?
40I'd rather see the stars of people like Hepburn, Tracy, and Gable. And Garland! But overall I really don't care about the stars these days.
However, Luciana's dress is gorgeous!
41Love him to death. Congrats to him!
42I have said it before i will say it again....YOU BUY YOUR STAR ON THE HOLLYWOOD WALK OF FAME!!!! look it up. its not just *given*
You have to give 25,000 dollars, and i think alot of these people who are nominated just dont give it much crediblity and than some are attention getters and get thier FAN CLUBS to donate the money....seriously it happens all the time
43always did like him.
44lol someone peeing on his star, nice
