Madonna took a dip in her hotel pool while touring through Romania yesterday. She continued to keep her bikini bod covered with her modest choice of swimwear, but she wasn't holding back on stage this week. She caught some fire for speaking out against the discrimination of Romanian gypsies at her Bucharest show but has since fought back by releasing a statement saying she felt "compelled" to comment on the situation.
Why is she defending criminals?
1Criminals? Since when Gypsies are criminals?
2The ones there hurt a lot of people and steal. Of course Im not going to generalize a whole group of people coz that would be wrong.
3Well, you just did generalize. You said she was defending criminals. She has gypsies performing with her in her show, I doubt they're criminals. It's better to keep your mouth shut and not say anything stupid then to blab something dumb without thinking and then try to backtrack and say you didn't mean it.
4I'm a rooster illusion.
5Yeah, McFearless, saying "the ones there" (referring to what, the ones in Romania?) doesn't help. Most gypsies live in Romania. That's like saying blacks are criminals, then saying "Oh, I just meant the ones in Africa." Or like saying people with stupid tattoos can't spell.
6Most Roma (the correct term) are not from Romania and are thought to originate historically from India. Don't read internet sites to educate yourselves! Take the truth into your own hands----research!!!!
7I think I'm the only one who noticed Madonna wearing a bra? under her swimming suit?
8Why?
Weird..
Yeah, heaven forbid she stands up for the rights of those who don't have a voice. I mean, how dare she? I guess we should all stand by and watch while people are subjugated, abused, and exterminated because of their ethnicity, orientation, or religion.
3 of her 4 children, most of her dancers and band members, along with a lot of her fans are part of minority groups, she has a personal responsibility to speak up against discrimination, plus she has the platform and the level of fame to bring attention to the issue. Now countless reports and discussions have been brought to light because of her comments. Well done, Madonna.
9I guess she chose to speak about it in Romania because here there are many Gypsies. Also the social situation of gypsies here is not very good. They seem to not want to be part of the country itself and tend not to follow the laws. But that's not the important thing. The thing is that the government does nothing to include them, to educate them or care for them. And Madonna was booed because the part of the gypsies that are criminals(and there are some) and come from Romania go outside the country and break the law. And then people from all over Europe and not only think of all Romanians as criminal gypsies. So we end up going to Italy or Germany and we are tourists, but we walk inside a store and suddenly we hear the employees saying "watch out, there are Romanians inside", as if we'd want to steal or do something illegal.
10Anyway, I think she was brave to speak about it here, she's wright to do it, and everyone should listen! There is discrimination here and everywhere when it comes to gypsies, and we should all do something about it, for the sake of all their kids, their fascinating culture and for all of them in general.
Until you have not lived in Romania and faced gypsies and their attitude, their swearing, their behavior...they live in 'castles' and do not have money to buy soap, you smell them from a mile away, they beg, they disobey the law..the majority of them..they use their babies in order to receive money and pity..you should not comment on them 'not having a voice'.honestly, when i see a gypsy on the streets, the first thing that comes to my ming is to look carefully at my purse, so they wouldn't steal from me..and for good reasons
11There is no use comparing black people in the US with gypsies in Romania. I can assure u. They don't need someone to speak for them, they make their own rules and they are discriminated for the things they do. Romanians are no like them and because of these "helpless" gypsies, the real Romanians are treated like sh*t all over the world, especially in Europe, so stop defending them!
12Totally love her !!!!
13i think that celebs often try to use their position to speak out on things, and it's rarely taken well. i think that she did what she felt was right for her, but oh well...what can you do right?
14Asides from politics. I hope when I'm her age I can pull as young and hot a boyfriend. Also she is super ripped.
15As usual Madonna has to say something controversial. It is her persona. I like her music and driven character, however, if she cares that much she should do something more about it, rather than just tell Romanian people not to discriminate against them. Totally agree with Mia's comments. Also, why not also adopt a gypsy child to actually really experience their character? it's in their genes! growing up with a fear of being mugged by Romanian gypsies or being bitten by stray dogs stays with you a lifetime; I am not one for discriminating against any ethnic minority but I would rather avoid them. Gypsies in Romania are not the flamenco romantic gypsies often pictured in films, etc; they are a different can of worms! Yes the government should do something about it, but it wouldn't bring them any more votes...so maybe Madonna can come up with a solution!
16Ugh stick to singing. Wish celebs would stay out of politics.
17When you go there and experience what they do, THEN talk.
18and why is she speaking?
19i live in Bucharest .. so i can tell mia and middle line are 90% right.. and the other 10% goes for the few normal and ok gypsies we have in romania.. I dont evan think they wanna do school or be educated .. my mom is a teacher in romania.. and she told that most gypsies take their kids to school just so they can learn how to read , write and basic math.. so that they cand later be able so obtain driving licence .. and when they grow up they will do what their parents thought them,, and that is breaking the law.. and that is the main reason why countries like England or Ireland don't allow romanians to get a work permit .. or that is also the reason why work willing romanians in Italy are discriminated (and there are a lot of romaninans working in Italy or Spain ) ..just because 4 or 5 gypsies stole from a jewelry shop or have commited crimes.. But i dont think gypsies are the only ones doing those stupid bad things.. and prolly madonna has still no idea about these facts..
20Starpill, I'm from Italy and I can say that I agree with you on the gypsies, we have a lot of gypsies here and they simple don't want to be part of the society, they don't want to integrate and they live committing crime. BUT: since Romania has entered UE lot of romanian people came here in Italy and just a minority of them for working; all the others just came here to be criminal, also because they probably know that here justice don't work so they can do whatever they want.
21because of these romanian people there are some places in Italy where girls and women can't go out at night alone, and couples can't kiss in their car 'cause group of romanians would go and beat them, rape the women and kill the boyfriend. they come to steal in our houses and have no problem to kill you if you discover them. they also involved in exploitation of prostitutions and drug selling, and they even commits crimes against other romanians girls and women here...
our newspapers are full of news about all the bad things romanian people are doing here, and i'm sorry to say that yes, we may discriminate them, but we also have a reason for that. I'm not racist, but really, these people are not given to Italy the best of the image of Romanian people.
ele.. i know what u re saying .. i didnt imagine is that bad.. but italians that live in romania are saying that the media always exaggerates..anyway as i said before.. there are also italians , bulgarians or other some other nation selling drugs and committing crimes .. and tbh all the ppl i know working in italy are good ppl .. they work there for 10 years or so .. and when some gypsie does smtg wrong they have a lot of problems just cause they are romanians..and i dont think that is fair.. i just came from a music fest in hungary and met a lot of italians.. i can say none of them looked up on me .. i made a lot of friends.. and i`m not ashamed i`m a romanian girl ... never been and never will be
