Janet Jackson sat down with Harper's Bazaar for her first interview since the death of her brother Michael earlier this Summer. It's been a challenging few months for Janet — in addition to the loss of Michael, she also parted ways with her longtime boyfriend, Jermaine Dupri. She took a break from filming Tyler Perry's new film and working on her next album to talk about Michael's passing, his children, and being newly single. Here's more:
- On avoiding the news after Michael's death: "It will drive you crazy. People can have rhinoceros skin, but there's a point when something's going to hurt you. Not everyone is stone, stone. I haven't watched the news in weeks. I had to ask my chef, 'How's Obama doing?' I haven't read a newspaper."
- On Paris Jackson's emotional speech at Michael's tribute: "I was really proud. People said to me that Michael's daughter speaking really gave them a sense of how he was as a father, in her words. Paris is incredibly smart; they are all so smart. She's a sweet girl. The kids are doing well. They're with all their cousins; that family love will keep them going."
- On being single after seven years with Jermaine: "I don't know if I'll get married again. I'll put it like this: If God wants me to, then I will . . . I've had people ask me out. I haven't entertained any offers thus far, but I'm locking myself in my work right now."
- On Michael's legacy: "It's so beyond. I can't even begin. It's on so many different levels. Bringing light and love and happiness. He's just got so much love, and so much heart, and so much power through his music. Children and his love for children. People have told me, 'I am an American citizen because of your brother.' He wrote them a letter or something. He was just that giving, loving person. And the greatest entertainer there ever was. And is. I hope people get a glimpse of him now, some sort of picture."

Is the photo shoot from before or after her brother's death...cuz I doesn't seem that appropriate to be all glammed and smiley in an article talking about his death.
1And the greatest entertainer there ever was. And is!
The greatest!!!!!!!!
2I don't think she should rush to get married just because others feel she should. And I think it's best for her to ask her chef or family members how President Obama is doing, so she won't have to hear peoples rude comments.
I'm sure I've said some things that she may not like when it comes to her brother. Like why did it take 10 long weeks to bury him when they knew that the laws would not be specially changed for them so that Micheal could be buried at Neverland Ranch?
Janet's always seemed sweet though.
3Janet looks fantastic but didn't know she wasn't with that guy any more...interesting.
I know her VMA performance will be amazing and straight from the heart, looking forward to it.
4she is so beautiful!! I cant wait to see her vma performance,i know its going to be special. Its still so hard to believe Michael is gone....
R.I.P MJ!
5I'm SURE someone will cyber- shout at me for this (he was never convicted and blahblahblah!) but it bothers me when people talk about his deep love of children, which was inappropriate at best. Grown men with healthy views on kids don't passionately defend their habit of sleeping in beds with kids that come over to their home (kids coming over doesn't really happen either). The Neverland Ranch raid produced some of the creepiest photos I've ever seen..... paintings of babies, child- sized mannequins wearing children's clothing (EVERYWHERE) and waaaay too many toys.... I just don't want to hear about his love of children. It pisses me off.
But Janet is lovely and I hope she finds happiness.
6I like what she said about Michael and his kids. She's gorgeous.
7I'd like to know more about what happened with her and Jermaine Dupri...they were together 7 years
8Sham, I understand where you're coming from...we'll never know what the heck happened as far as the accusations, and anybody who would harm a child is the devil - period...sleeping with kids is soo very inappropriate...he was very weird, clearly had some deep issues and provided me many jokes over the years...but I grew up listening to him so from that perspective, he was the shyt...I do like Janet, she seems really sweet
9I can imagine how hard it is to keep hearing about a loved-one's death everywhere you turn too.
I'm curious about what they'll do at the VMA.
sham28 - I think that if you don't want to hear about his love for children its better avoid almost everything related to him. It was a part of him whether some people found it inappropriate or not. That's all I'll say on the matter because frnakly I'm tired of these type of discussion and wouldn't like this thread to turn into a trial.
10Michael Jackson's creepy poem "Children of the World"
Children of the world, we'll do it
We'll meet on endless shores
Making sandcastles and floating our boats
While people fight and defend their point of view
Forever putting on masks that are new
We'll swing the tide of time and do it.
Children of the world, we'll do it
With song and dance and innocent bliss
And the soft caress of a loving kiss
We'll do it.
While traders trade and haggle their price
And politicians try so hard to be nice
We'll meet on endless shores and floating our boats
We'll do it.
While lawyers argue and doctors treat
Stockbrokers quote the price on meat
While preachers preach and ring the bell
Carpetbaggers with something to sell
We'll sing and dance in innocent bliss
With the soft caress of a loving kiss
We'll do it.
Meeting on endless shores
Making sandcastles and floating our boats
We'll do it.
We'll ride the rainbow, a cloud, a storm
Flying in the wind, we'll change our form
We'll reach the stars, embrace the moon
We'll break the barrier and be there soon
While architects plan their buildings high
And trade unions raise their hue and cry
While boardroom squabbles generate heat
And in secret places dealers meet
We'll sing and dance in innocent bliss
And the soft caress of a loving kiss
We'll do it.
While philosophers grapple and continue to tackle
Endless dilemmas of body and mind
Physicists wander, continue to ponder
Perennial questions of space and time
Archeologists survey, continue to dig
Bygone treasures small and big
Psychologists probe, analyze the tears
Of hysterical notions, phobias, fears
While priests take confessions
In a serious session
And people struggle
In the hustle and bustle
In the noise and din
On the meaning of sin
We'll touch the stars, embrace the moon
Break the barrier, arrive there soon
Ride the rainbow, the cloud, the storm
Flying in the wind, changing our form
Children of the world, we'll do it
11With song and dance and innocent bliss
The soft caress of a loving kiss
We'll do it.
When did they break-up??!
Last I saw they were still together and she was talking about how in love she was!
12I know, niqua230!!! I want details! They seemed like they had a really good relationship but maybe it just ran it's course. Who knows?
13Because he is a man, he must be a pedo. If it was a woman, nobody would say sh*t. He LOVED children. The world jdged him but kids didnt... kids dont have secret agendas. He could be himself around kids. He took care of kids. His gorgeous children are proof that he is a good father.
Sham, your comment is disgusting.
14she is gorgeous.... she has to make a comback...
15and michael rulz..
