First she did adopt, then she didn't now she has - pretty much. Madonna and Guy Ritchie have been given an interim adoption order for baby David Banda. This allows them temporary custody for 18 months. After that they will go through an evaluation process in the courts of Malawi. Nevertheless, the couple was reunited with the 13 month old in London after he flew in from Johannesburg, escorted by Madonna's entourage. Madonna is so elated about David that she's even thinking of adopting another child. Here's more:

After being allowed to take little David Banda home, the superstar [said]: 'It's so worth it. He's just the best baby ever. Guy and I have never been happier.'
And she has already got her eyes on a three-year-old girl from the same village as David. Describing the moment she saw her, she said: "I looked at this child with questioning dark eyes and the saddest smile. I thought, 'She looks just like me.' I told Guy, 'We must give this child a home, too.'"
Madonna has spoken about the possibility of adoption before. But intriguingly, Hello! magazine claims today that she had to overcome marital problems with Guy before going ahead with her Malawi plans.
"She wanted to wait until a rough patch in her marriage was smoothed over before she brought any more children into the situation," a relative of Madonna's in Michigan told Taraborrelli.
I wonder what Lourdes and Rocco think about David being "the best baby ever." He sure is adorable. Zahara and Maddox may have some competition. As for adopting more kids, stay tuned. More pics so read more

Good for her, but what is up with adopting "ethnic babies"?
1UGH - sick of hearing about this
2You're not the only one, Paige. Very tiring, to say the least.
3Sheetal,
Because there is a disproportionate number of so called "ethnic babies" that need homes.
4It angers me that celebrities get the VIP treatment when adopting. I have many married friends who were totally qualified to adopt and it took many of them well over a year to finally get approved. Iknow, some of you will say, "Well at least this kids being saved from the life he would have had." I know that, but still, it pisses me off.
5I'm with Paige and Tor. I'm tired of this story
6eye roll @@
HAPPY 2nd BIRTHDAY MIKEY JR !!!!
7There are plenty of children here in US that need the same love and care! These celebs want to be saviors and go oversees, maybe they really do want to have children of a different race. If I ever adopted I would try and get a child from here, maybe its easy oversees, there the stars dont really get a background check, and the country sees it as income from all the publicity!
whoa.. run on sentance!
8Being adopted by a celeb and taken out of poverty in a 3rd world country is becoming the new American Dream...
9Oh, I've noticed that right from the start, Design. You can walk into a store and see on the front page of a magazine, "Madonna adopting baby", and within weeks she's seen pushing the stroller down the sidewalk. So many people fail to realize that celebrities are human (most of them, anyway) and subject to the same rules and regulations that we 'commoners' are. Or they SHOULD be, anyway.
10Sheetal,
Yes there are plenty of kids here that need homes, but most kids that need homes here in the US are so called "ethnic babies" (to use your words)as well. Many are black, latino, and Native American and nobody wants to adopt them. They stay in the foster care system until they "ago out" at 18.
11UGH!! not another story! BEacuse there are no babies in America to adopt..or hey since she does not like Americans im sure there are even some in London for her to adopt! so Frusterating!
12~*~Life was Simpler back then~*~
Take the poll guys,Im interested in your opinion!
13Im so sick of these stories! They just want people to put them on a pedastel.WHy cant they adopt children in North America? Its seems to be a fad with celeberties to adopt children in other countries.
14I'm not really sure how I feel about this issue. I understand both sides of the story.
15but anyway...look at his cute lil fingers! cute babies get me everytime...
What's the problem about addopting children in another country? They're not doing anything wrong. But i'm sick of this Madonna game. I adore her, but please finish this dramarama
16Well, like I said about Nicole Kidman becoming a Goodwill ambassador, at least the fad they're following is doing some good in the world.
I agree that Madge should be following the rules just like all us mortals would have to, but at least her heart's in the right place.
17I agree Sica. An orphan needs a home, no matter what country he or she is in. I just hope that these celebs - or anyone for that matter - make it a point to teach their child about their culture.
18There is nothing wrong with adopting children from another countires but there are kids here in our country that need homes but they are forgotton!
19Hmm and then it's not like people from other countries are going to come here and adopt our orphans.
20Adopt any child, just treat all celeb or not who qualify equally in the process!
21But this child has a healthy father who simply couldn't afford to raise him. If Madonna truly cared about the well being of THIS child, she could have provided all his father needs to raise him with a donation that would be less than the cost of the private jet ride to bring him to her. And she could have done it quietly, without anyone knowing, and still go adopt a child that has no parents.
Now this little boy going to be forced to live in the media glare, away from his natural father, and raised in her religion.
22I agree honey31,
But a home for an orphan in a country where that kid could die, where there is no infrastructure for foster care seems like a good thing. But that's just what I think, and who cares what I think anyway.
23I'm sorry honey31, but American children have a million more chances of growing up and have a normal life than an African one. That's the point!
24I see your point, Honey31.
But just to play devil's advocate, I'd have to assume that the orphans in Africa have got it much worse than the orphans here. Here, orphans live in group homes or foster homes. They receive food, clothing, medication, and education. But the orphans in Africa very often live in famine and pestilence. They often have to wear rags and they rarely go to school. Maybe Madge is trying to help out a less fortunate child.
Then again, this is all conjecture... I'm not an expert on orphans of the world. Does anyone out there have any facts on this issue?
25As an adoptive mother of 2 "ethnic" children (not sure how I feel about that phrase) I applaud anyone who adopts. It is a VERY frustrating process to adopt here - I have done both private and currently CPS (child protective services). While I do not agree with giving up and heading overseas - I do admit our process needs a major overhaul - the only ones that suffer are the children - no matter what race or country. I applaud any mere mortal willing to take a child into their home. It appears to help if your famous and make a lot of money and have nannies.
26bassetread, I applaud you!!
27I also agree with you bassetread and I see your point to whip. All children deserve a good home no matter where they live but I feel that its the in thing for movie stars and that is sad.
28Bassetread, you are awesome. I just want to let you know that I don't agree with the ethnic babies comment. I was just using the words of someone who posted before me used. I've done work with a Foundation that is trying to make our child welfare system better so that more people can adopt children here at home. We need more people like you and your family.
29Please tell me you really didnt just say "ethnic babies" wtf??
30Read the first post.
31Ethnic babies. It was very very low level.
32I don't know Madonna's motives for adopting but I wish people would stop refering to adoptions from Africa as a fad. If you think about it, how many celebrities have adopted from Africa recently? Brad and Angie AND now Madonna and Guy. Two does NOT constitute a fad. All other recent adoptions are from everywhere but Africa.
Meg Ryan - China
Ewan MacGregor - Mongolia
Sharon Stone - USA
Hugh Jackman - China?
Also a child is a child. It shouldn't matter where someone adopts from. If some people believe that a child should be adopted from a particular country, lets say the USA, then I say more power to you go out an adopt a child from the USA. The only real problem I have with Madonna's adoption is that she was given special treatment but that's no surprise. Money oftentimes equals special treatment.
33Addopting is beautiful! Education is our future, we can't leave our children behind! I want to addopt a child, but when I have money to do that.
34ALl the power to people who adopt!
35personally, i'm really happy that madonna adopted a baby. i'm glad she has the resources to provide the child with a wonderful life. i am also happy that she donated all that money to that orphanage.
36does it really matter if it's a "fad"? i never thought being generous was out of style.
On cnn.com, it says there are 900,000 orphans in Malawi.
I think anything anyone can do to help even one child is admirable.
I also think it is wonderful of Madonna to adopt a child that is a year old. Many children over the age of 6 months go unadopted because people want a newborn.
37I agree with everyone here. I just can't stand Madonna and I think she will do anything to stay in the lime light. Why couldn't she donate quietly and adopt quietly? Never heard about Sharon or Meg or even Hugh until they had adopted the baby. I guess people question hag becuase she brought a camera crew with her !!

I read that CNN article. Did you see that sweet little 12 year old who's looking for parents? She doesn't care if they're rich or poor or famous or not. The Malawi laws, as they stand, make it extremely difficult for the almost 1 million orphans in the country to find parents. When the laws were first written, the country wasn't facing the AIDS pandemic like its going through now.
I really need to get my act together so I can adopt.
39I think it's really great that she & Guy are doing this but it sounds a little fishy to me. You hardly ever heard about celebrities adopting these children from impoverished countries until Angelina did it. It's almost like everyone is just doing it to be like her. It just seems like everyone else is adopting for all the WRONG reasons.
40Please know - my comments were not to chastise anyone, just to offer another perspective. No one can know any-one's motivation. I must admit that if I went to another country and saw all the hunger and pain, I too would want to do something about it and take them all home. "choosing" a child that you see first has GOT to be hard - how do you "choose" who do you take. I actually think that is harder then what we did - (we got a call and 2 hours later my son was at my house)- we did not see him first. How do you decide knowing that who you don't pick will be left in those conditions? I do appreciate that Madonna donated to help the other children left behind.

Thank you for your post and I mean that sincerely. Unless someone knows for themselves about the process than it's very easy to toss out what, when, where and how it all should be done. The amazing thing about that is, those most vocal are generally those who aren't even attempting to see what it's all about by adopting themselves, yet they have no problem critizing others who at least try.JMHO
42ohsuri, do you actually believe the press wouldn't be all up in Madonnas business trying to find out about the new little black child living with her? I'm sorrym but that's more than a tad naive. Why is everyone so worried and bothered about Madonna's doing this? How is it interfering with anyone here's life?
43It is some celebrity fad to go out and adopt some thirdworld brat?
Come on, there are plenty of young kids needing adoption right here at home. What, not "vogue" enough to adopt someone from the same country as you?
44FredPerry, why not gather up all the names of the famed who have and ask them? I think they'd be better equipped to answer since they are the ones you making the query about. Btw, have you adopted any of the many young kids needing adopton where you live?
45it is great.
she is making a stand by adopting an "old kid" and a ethnic kid...good karma for anyone who adopts.
[everyone wants to get a caucaisan baby so anytime someone adopts an "ethnic" kid it is good.
46Adopting is wonderful.. I have an adopted brother... I question Madonnas motives. Bringing a camera crew with you is a little bit much!!!
47Someone needs to translate ethnic babies for me. Wouldn't all babies have an ethnicity?
I can't stand Madonna. But, this might just be the very first thing she's done in her lifetime that really benefited someone else more than it benefited her. Good for her. And good for the little guy.
48this kid was taken from an ORPHANAGE right? isn't that what you do , adopt kids from places like these. Anyway there are a lot of kids whose
49parents GIVE THEM UP for adoption coz they cannot take care of them i.e teen moms in the U.S.
if i can recall correctly both Sharon Stone and calista Flockhart's adpoted kids were NOT orphans so where's all the hoopla about them?
since when has adopting a kid been a bad thing i say more power to madonna for what she has done.
i'm pretty sure a life with a family is better than living in an orphanage don't ya think? or am i wrong?
If nothing else is gained from this - then at least we are talking about it. She is helping to bring attention to adoption - no matter where you adopt from. I encourage EVERYONE - regardless of where you are in life to consider adopting or fostering. It can really make a difference in someones life.
