David held a press conference Saturday asking his fans to be patient on his return to the field. People are starting to get upset and he is assuring us that his ankle injury is on the mend and he is hoping to get back on the field soon. He also said he's still about seven to ten days away from starting a game which sucks for the DC fans who are hoping to see him play this Thursday. Here's more:
"I'm here for five years and maybe more," he said. "That's where people may have to be slightly patient and not think that I'm just here for the glitz and the glamour. I'm here to play soccer. I'm not here to play anything else."
"It needs to be right," he said. "There's no point in me coming back and playing in a game -- when people are expecting me to play at a high level like I can and I do -- and not performing."
Beckham has increased US ticket sales tremendously. Obviously we want him well enough to play but hopefully new fans won't be too let down if they miss him this time he is in town. Besides, it seems like all the bad press is really starting to get to him so we know he wants to please his new fans. Personally, we'll take Becks anyway we can. Lots more pictures of David speaking to the press and resting his ankle in Toronto so read more

Hot hot hot...where's Greggie???
1And I agree, just because he's walking out and about in Hollywood doesn't mean he can play to his fullest potential...should he exert himself and make his injury worse?
2Ah yes. I knew I'd get a good start to my Monday if I just waited long enough.
Hello baby.
3I'm totally with you jmast. Walking around Hollywood to get a coffee is not the same thing as running around for 90 minutes and pushing players off of you. If Beckham tried to play now just to please a couple thousand of people (who probably wouldn't even care about MLS if he hadn't signed to LA) he's going to end up hurting himself more.
4And grabbing a coffee on his way to the stadium and doing light shopping doesn't exactly qualify as putting too much stress on his injury, so I don't get those complaints.
5DAVIDDDD hot
6dont worry becks u'll soon b betta n shut da losers up
7and i agree with everyone above....i dont get how ppl complain about him walking around town......that HARDLY compares......
8I feel bad about this, i mean people *imo* waited for him to arrive in america, but til now, he's still on the sideline.
am not from america tho, but just seeing these kinda news i feel bad for him. *or i could be wrong*
9What a fabulous way to start a Monday
10i'm so glad all that horrible bleach is gone lol he looks better now.
11I'm trying to imagine what would happen if my husband had to become housebound and not do any light walking every time he had an injury during his training. It'd make things far worse, I'd think.
12Okay the American League needs some real diversity fast or their players need to get some serious game cos this is a one man show and it's starting to suck bad.
13I totally agree, he needs to recover 100% so he can play again otherwise he's going to get worse. There's no point of him hurting himself so that a few dumb ass people feel "happy".
14I've never been one to get mad when my favorite players are sidelined for injuries. Disappointed, sure. But I cannot understand getting mad.
15agreed carito8
16Sorry but the guy won't last 5 years he's so burnt up. He's not played football properly for a few years now ok he can set up a goal here and there but if he was such a great player why was he on the bench for the last 3 years or so in Spain??? Those guys just off loaded him on to you guys. He's so past his sell-by date!!! Just like his dried up old wife.
17Totally agree Greggie, that's insane.
I've been into soccer since my ex (who was born in Brazil) and now my husband (who was born in Italy) so I've never really had much of a choice. But even if you have a favorite star in any sport, you don't want to see them hurt and on the sidelines, but most importantly why would you be pissed, want them to hurry up and get back on the field and get an injury that can sideline them forever????
18Gosh people are so selfish ! let the poor man recover !!!
19I think the thing is the ankle injury has been played out in the media and instead of shying away and "recuperating" in the sense that we know recuperating which is staying at home, going to see the doctor then pitching up at practice or is it practise and sitting on the bench during games, he's out and about and for people who see this it's just kinda strange. I think most of his fans just want to see him not that they want him to play and all this really got loads of coverage after he didn't pitch for the Dallas game.
20If people think it's strange to see a guy out walking casually when he has an ankle injury, then they don't know much about recuperating. I've never known it to mean "staying at home" in any sense unless it's an extreme injury.
21I agree... walking around and running around a soccer field are two entirely different things. That said, I can't wait for Becks to get better so I can see him play when he comes to New York!
22exactly....greggie...if anything blame the media for hyping up everytime he's sitting on the bench or when he goes to get coffee.....i didnt know isolation was the key to recovery.....
23Aw! Where's Posh?
24Need some fashion inspiration!
lol Joy
25That's why I said the whole injury thing has been played out in the media, everywhere you turn it's like Dvid's injury this and David's injury that, making it seem like it's bigger than it is. I mean jees it's not like he shattered a bone or something that should get so much coverage.
26damn Greggie
in the house!!
go buck wild on the posting girl!
27i hope they show the game from the galaxy in the uk when he plays his first proper game, i dont get how people say hes burnt up, he won la leuga for Madrid, and was flipping Captain for England, just because the clubs were stupid enough to drop him dosnt mean he is over, hes older not done with. The same clubs that dropped him all came running bk in the end....
28The local sports media as well as ESPN have actually been quite realistic in explaining the injury. It's only the gossip sites that make it sound like a sin to get coffee while your ankle's in a brace. And personally, I wouldn't give two hoots what they said if my coach and trainer were ok with it.
29Okay he didn't win the La Liga for Madrid he won it with Madrid cos that makes it seem like he played every game, stopped the goals, scored the goals, defended and attacked all by himself.. Considering the amount of time mr.man spent on the bench he didn't win anything. It was a team effort. It took them a damn long time to win it even with him and the other galacticos. And somehow I don't see any of those clubs asking him to play once he's over 35 not when you have the Rhain Davis' of the world.
30Thank you Hills! ppl just want to be spitefull saying he's burnt up and that he hasnt played for 3yrs or been or bench for 3yrs or wateva...what kind of foolishness is that??
31Poor Becks, hope things will get better for him.
32hotness
33Isn't is quite common to have to "ease" an injury back to good health - i.e walking short distances (perhaps to get coffee) on it before all out running in a sporting event?
I hope he's playing soon - I can't wait to watch, but not at the risk of a far worse injury.
34Yeah right baby *rolleyes*
Guess LA Galaxy fans will just have to keep waiting...
IMO, he'll never be again the great player he used to be about 7-8 years ago.
35There's a reason no team in Europe wanted him anymore. He'll be injured for the rest of his career. He's past his prime.
36Whatever the bloggers and gossips think, he should stay gorgeous his butt in his mansion more often until he heals. Perception is reality, no matter how skewed the perception. The average person isn't watching ESPN to get his true medical breakdown. All they see is pictures on the Web of him at clubs and restaurants -- and that's all they remember.
37Thank you mwms. More articulate than what I was trying to say but it's weird how people want to make it seem like he's a highly in demand soccer player in Europe and the clubs were killing each other to get to him. If he was that damn good nothing would have stood in the way of Barcelon or AC Milan, especially not some little team in LA for crying out loud, trying to sign him they would have swatted LA to the side. They just weren't willing to fork out for a player who honestly has 2 or 3 good years left in him.
38So he should live his life by what gossip commenters think? *lol*
39I understand that people want to see him play, but if he's put on the field too soon there could be major repercussions.
40I can recall so many instances where a player had a fairly minor injury (like his), they were put into a game even though they weren't fully healed, then BOOM - the injury becomes so damn bad they have to have surgery to fix the damage. If something like that were to happen to Becks, just because his fans want to see him play, he'd be out for more than a couple of weeks. I'm sure that would cause a hell of a lot more bad press and upset fans more than this.
His fans need to calm the f- down. Like he said, he's there for the next 5 years. They have plenty of time to see him play.
lots of athletes play through injuries, FOOTBALL players, baseball players, hockey players....!
41Poor guy, I feel bad for him.
42give him a break guys he's only human
43I am going to his game against Chicago Fire Oct 21st and I paid a pretty penny to get tickets and got sucked into buying tickets for 5 games so I could even get ONE ticket! It was madness I paid $100 for a standing room only seat and forced to buy 5 games. He better be playing by then! I'll be so pissed
44He needs to rest up and get better before Oct! I dont want him playing when it hurts and then I cant see him when I'm going to his game! Ow that would suck worse!
45i totally agree with monica117.
46Bench-it-like-Beckham.
Overrated.
47Hey Greggie, to some degree I think, yes. I think he should curtail, but not cut out, the clubbing and such for a while. It would be better for his reputation and fo rthe fan base he's trying to grow here. I'm not saying I agree with all the gossip, but that certainly is getting into more people's consciousness than sports reporting is. Not trying to argue, but just to be clear about my point.
48hmm yummy
49good grief. people should leave him alone. Soccer is very difficult sport because there are no breaks in the halfs. He absolutely shouldn't risk the rest of his career just because people are impatient. For goodness sake, nobody was into soccer before he came in so they can wait a bit longer.
